Default TLC448 ~ Doodling for Dummies: Traced Doodling {9/23/13}

I was so thrilled to be invited by Joan and Judy to join the TLC team.
It was an interest in techniques that first brought me to SCS - looking for a particular tutorial and finding it in the Resources section. I've been here ever since ;) , and many of the techniques I've learned have become staples in my repertoire. For my first challenge as a hostess, I'm starting off with a tutorial from earlier this year which I just recently came across.

Do you feel a minor panic when you see "Doodle" in the title of a challenge?
I freely admit that I do - although I hope that's now an "I did" ;), because one day I found a lovely tutorial in Resources and now when I see "Doodle" in a challenge title, I'll know that I can use this technique and not need to freeze in my tracks. For those of you who love doodling anyway, I'm sure you'll enjoy this tutorial too.

stampztoomuch's Traced Doodling tutorial is HERE .

She shows both a focal image and a background technique. Feel free to do either or both - I did one of each. But do please follow the tutorial - this challenge is for Traced Doodling !

TIPS:
* In the tutorial sample Mel uses a butterfly image that has some quite wide stamped lines and also some open space. If you don't have stamps like that, a silhouette image will also work well. I used a solid stamp for my focal image sample. Just stamp it in a light colour and then add your lines, shading and doodling.

* Another suggestion from Mel (she has a card in the gallery using this) is to use a die-cut to trace around instead of stamping - and then add your shading and any more doodling you wish.

* Remember to allow drying time or use a heat-gun if you use pigment inks for stamping! You don't want your lovely doodling to smudge it ;).

* Remember too what it says in the tutorial - doodling is forgiving. Don't stress over it! Even if you're a perfectionist, doodling doesn't have to be perfect ;).

Be sure to use the keyword TLC448 when you're uploading to the gallery, and when you've uploaded, come back and link your card in this thread.

We have a special section of the gallery for this technique, so when you are uploading, choose Technique Spotlight from the main gallery option list and Traced Doodling from the sub-gallery dropdown list.

If you're not sure how to link a card to this thread, here's how:
1. Open 2 windows or tabs: one window for your card and one for this thread.
2. In this thread, click on reply and type anything you want to show before the link.
3. Go to your card window. Highlight the address for your card. (It says www. splitcoaststampers.com/gallery/showphoto..... and so on)
4. Click EDIT. Click COPY
5. Go back to this thread. Click PASTE.

Here is the link to our TLC448 Traced Doodling Gallery .

HERE is my card using a focal image with doodling.

And HERE'S a card using a background image with doodling.

This was definitely a challenge for me. I've never doodled on my cards before and I'm not sure what I did really counts as doodling, but... Here's my card!!

Here is mine. I was trying to do some Zentangle, but oh well! I had just heard of it in last two weeks, and went to a session. I guess it has been around for years, but I never had heard of it! And you can't even see my doodles very well! Should have used a different stamp. But I was going through my stamps and noticed this one. Don't know if I had ever used it and decided I was going to.

Thank you

What a great challenge! Congratulations on your first challenge hostessing. You're off to a roaring start.

Hope I can play along - but first I have to be at work! In the meantime, I'm thinking in my head what stamp set I could use.

So excited for you Sabrina! Great first challenge. I doodled over a crayon resist image I drew then washed with Gelato and ink from my ink pad lid.
