Default Gelli Plates

hi there,I have seen so many awesome cards and they mention that they have used a gelli plate to create the bkg. I just wondered if anyone had found a good video or something I could watch to see what a gelli plate actually is and where do you go to buy them?
Thanks in advance for all your help.

Gelli Plate pointers? by mamaxsix at Splitcoaststampers
There was a discussion thread a while back. It too contains a link to their You-Tube channel, and also some various other tips and links.

Karen, before I plunked down the $$ for one I decided to try out the techniques using a homemade gelatin plate. Here's the tutorial for making your own . I had two long sessions using the plate and could have used it more if I'd had the time and the refrigerator space! I'm putting a "real" Gelli plate on my Christmas wish list as I really did enjoy the process of printing and the possibilities are ENDLESS!
With your style being more CAS-I bet you'll like making prints and then diecutting them.

Thought I would chime in. I run the ArtLab - my studio where I ask 'what if' and see what happens. I made my own gel plate using sugar free gelatin with 1/2 the water the package requires. It's tasty, but it wouldn't hold up enough to even put thin paint on it. I spent $3 total, but now I'm convinced I need the real deal. Just my half-cent.

Lots of gelli printing videos on YouTube but I agree the GA channel rocks - I'd definitely start with the Gelli Art YouTube channel - they are the most artsy IMO. The videos are usually short, but jam packed with very cool techniques. I have the 9 x 12 Gelli Plate (or somewhere around that size) and it's wonderful. You can make your own plate using Gelatin, but that's not my thing at all LOL

6X6 is 19.99
8X10 is 29.99
12X14 is 69.99 from the Gelli Art webpage.

I need to find a 6X6 plate. I have the 8X10.

You can use regular acrylics with this, so paint prices will vary.

What size do you think I should get? The 8 x 10 is $27.

What kind of paper is used with this? And does the paper warp with so much paint on it??

People use all kinds of paper with it from deli paper to copy paper to cardstock to the rolls of endpaper from newspapers. I used cheap cardstock when I did mine.
The paint isn't very thick as you're rolling it out with a brayer and I was doing multiple prints for each application of paint. As far as brands of paint go, they say that the thinner paints spread well so you don't need to get the expensive brands.
I made my own gelatin plate to play around with and it was about the size of a full sheet of paper. I did have a second piece that I used later that was smaller and it worked better with some of my smaller stencils.
Once you start, you see all sorts of things that will work for texture and stencils. I signed up for the Gelli Plate fb page and they have TONS of ideas and lots of links to people giving stuff away (not that I've won anything yet!)

I made my own, I first made the standard gelatin plate then I made a reusable gelatin plate (AKA a hectograph) and it is so much cheaper then buying them. You will want to use unflavored gelatin and a ratio of 2 tablespoons powder gelatin to each cup of water (or do half water half glycerin if you want a permanent one that wont spoil) I have a video if you want to see. Please read the video description for more information I have discovered since filming the video. Have fun! Make_a_permanent_gelatin_plate_AKA_hectograph - YouTube

I used Lindseymay recipe for the permanent Gelli plate. I made it in early July and it is still working for me. I messed it up twice and just melted it down in the microwave and it was good as new. I was able to create a size that works well for me.

I've has a gelli plate for about 6 months now. I bought the 8 x 10 in size and use mostly
walmart georgia pacific cardstock. I have a variety of paints from cheap acrylic to expensive brands and lumineres and metallics. Gelli prints are so addictive it is hard to stop pulling prints!

I'm newbie in the world of gelli printing so forgive my excitement about this technique... I luv it! I have been collecting stencils for a while but I haven't used them much in my card projects because I wasn't thrilled with the results of the image transfer.
Now that I have the gelli plate it will be my go to tool for using stencils... I luv the results with distress ink and brushos and the plate cleans up nicely with water.
