Today's Friday and a new Mix-Ability Challenge! Our goal is to make mixed media, easy, approachable and FUN! We want to convince you that no matter what your style is - you can DO it!
My challenge for you this next week is to ink and color on your project and then take a graphite or #2 pencil and sketch something in the background.
The main idea in using a pencil is it's a medium we all have and it can do so much for adding depth to any stamped image. Plus, if you don't like it... erase and try again!
Use it in the background/negative area for:
- basic shading for the background
- add a handwritten message like journaling
- make it fun with scribbles, circles, squares or whatever you fancy
- draw in what might be missing like leaves, fence, sprigs, window
If you feel uncomfortable hand drawing, use the techniques from these tutorials to get you started then use your pencil to finish it up. No Line Coloring or Traced Doodling.
Still unsure? Be inspired to try out pencil in the main image. Anything goes!
Please remember to put in the correct keyword MIX27 when uploading your image. Copying and pasting the challenge keyword is recommended to avoid typos. Then come back to this thread and paste a link to the card in your gallery so we can all ooh and ahhh!

This is a challenge I find hard every time it comes up, but at least having freedom of choice as to how we used our pencil was a whole lot easier than when we're asked to colour an image with pencil .
I added some shading in around my owl, text in his book (why, oh why, do so many books showing music on a stand, or an open book, have no writing,) and the pencil was just perfect for his little reading-glass frames. DTGD13 Old Friends
This is my first ever Mix-ability Challenge. I have completed one last piece for the DTGD Challenge and thought I'd play with you too.
My scene is inspired from one of my own photographs taken in Florence, Arizona. I'm attaching a thumbnail so you can compare. I didn't sketch it out exactly but close enough for you to recognize it. There are no stamps included in this piece.
I used Derwent Graphite #2B Pencil to sketch the scene (and left the roof alone) so you could see the graphite pencil. Then I used pan watercolor and watercolor pencil. Once the piece was dry, I went over some areas with my Micron 01 pen. So ... pencil, color, ink.
Couldn't believe it when I notice that this was number 27 for the Mixability challenges....can it be that long already! I made a Gesso page to stamp on and rubbed a bunch of the Gesso off. I stamped solid images and also wiped off most of that ink then sketch around the images and made a puddle underneath with my pencil. Under the Weather

So I slipped away on Friday for hip surgery and I want to thank Dini for keeping the forum going. I'll be catching up on your entries this week and can't wait to comment.

I admit that I do not own a proper and suitable pencil (just one of those very thin ones, which is not good for sketching), so I hope sketching with a gelato pen also counts:
