I'm trying hard to come up with something new and different to make for Christmas gifts this year. I've made post it holders, notepad holders, calendars, candy holders in years past, but I really want to find something that I haven't done before. I did see a paper purse pattern that would hold a set of cards that I had not seen before. That would be something fun to give as a gift. I also have a different box to make to hold card sets. I also saw a cute lipstick holder. I'm thinking of designing something as soon as an idea strikes me.
One year I made these Holiday/Christmas tissue box covers for early Christmas gifts. They turned out really cute and were well received. They are refillable, too. Instructions are in the tutorials section.

Are you wanting it to be papercrafting? I can think of bookmarks, magnets and ornaments. Sometimes I just make a cute tag to go on a pre-packaged food item like a cookie mix or popcorn.

One of my friends is making a recipe book for her grandchildren. A group of us are getting together to work on smash books. I have a whole list of ideas for them. Mine is going to be
Christmas traditions, pictures and recipes. Another is making hers a journal to keep with things for the holidays this year, including a calendar, gift lists, organizer, party planning, decorating ideas etc.
We're going to split packages of embellishments, and washi tape etc. It's going to be such fun!
I love this thread. I have been debating what to do with my SU 'This and that' note book and accessories. My husband is the cook in our family. (Yes, I'm lucky) Anyway, I've been wondering what to give him for our 30th wedding anniversary this November. Your suggestion about a cookbook will suit the 'This and that' style and I think will be the perfect present. What do you think?

That's sad - but what a lovely idea to make a recipe book with a collection of her recipes, that will be a wonderful gift.
I just wanted to suggest that of all the various ways I've used to store and collect recipes over the years, my personal favourite/most useful is filing cards in a tin or box. I know there are even dies and stamps for the cards, now - and you could decorate the tin beautifully, and a front card for each category of recipes.
How about a decorated clipboard? You can get some that are just plain compressed board or whatever it is. I've actually bought a coupled (think from staples) but not actually done anything with them. Alternatively, some french cheeses come in nice boxes that could be decorated.

Doesn't really need to be photos; can even use paper napkins or pretty paper, etc. and mod podge on tiles
I totally forgot about the sets of tile coasters I made last Christmas! I made so many sets for gifts, and I can't believe I just now remembered them, lol.
Everyone loved them, and they were so easy to do. I used patterned papers and Mod Podge. Here is a great tutorial to make them:

What a wonderful idea! My friend and I were brainstorming yesterday on what could be used to decorate recipe pages. Some punch art food, like pies with the scallop circle and tiny circles for berries. A cluster of grapes with circle punch, pumpkins with ovals. There are apple stamps in Countryside, a couple greetings in Wordplay. I need to sit down with the catalog and take a look.

I did something similiar for our families the last two years. All of the grandchildren got recipe books with the recipes of their grandmothers. I scanned and photocopied the recipes so they would even have them in the original handwriting. Included a few pictures and produced a few happy tears. They loved them. Definitely worth the time and effort!

It would be wonderful to incorporate pictures of your step- daughter on the cover and on the dividers.
I made recipe books for my kids when they moved into college apartments this past fall. For my daughter I used a purchased album that held both pages and cards. For my son I used a blue canvas 5-1/2 x 8-1/2 binder - perfect for the college guy. I included their favorites, made sure the instructions were adequately detailed for their skill and experience level and then sent out a request to all family members to contribute. I suggested that the recipes be something the kids associated with that family member and that it be hand written so the kids would always have that touchstone. The kids loved them and the recipe albums continue to be a work in progress.

I am thinking about making chipboard coaster calendars - the kind that have 12 coasters and stands up. anyone have some good links for pics?
I have made these for the last few years. (Even sold 15 of them last year!) They are always well received and family asks for them every year. I will be starting on 2014 soon.
My Mom and my Grandma had great recipes but never measured. I have the same habit when I cook. Those recipes are still in my head. One year I actually measured when using the recipes! LOL I then printed out the recipes and cut them into the shape of an apron and laminated each sheet for easy cleaning. I bound them together with a ring and decorated the cover of the apron. (It was actually a stamp I had bought at a craft fair) Thank goodness I didn't have tooooo many to make because of having to cut the shape by hand. They brought tears to everyones eyes. It was well worth the work!!! Those are the best gifts in the world to give.

Measuring so you could make a recipe is wonderful. My mom did that for a few recipes for me while undergoing chemo. She also gave me pie baking lessons, so that I would know how to make perfect crust like she did.
Know what else? I just discovered how beautiful the digital books are! I knew about digital scrapbooking and I always thought eh. Well, I saw one that was created digitally and then printed and bound Oh my goodness it is gorgeous and soooo professional and polished looking!!! I have Got to make one for my son and one of friends who is getting married. Y'all have got me on the recipe channel ... And I've been thinking about all the recipes my son emails asking me for. I'm going to create a digital book for him with favorite recipes in the front and some pictures of family and home in South Carolina in the back. He moved waaaay out to Denver after college, so I think this will be perfect for him.
He's a 29 year old outdoorsy type man and he would like a sleek modern book like this instead of a traditional scrapbook kwim? I can design it on my computer with no bows or buttons, nothing girly. I just gotta figure out which type and size. The board book style would lay flat when open, which is great when cooking, but it is only 8 by 8. Gasp I know! I'll make two of them! The smaller board for recipes and an 8 1/2 by 11 for photos
