Default My First Class dumb question

I will be going to my my very first card making class in a few days. The say to bring: Basic craft tools, ie cutting mat, craft knife, scissors, pencil, ruler, paper-cutter, glue, d/sided tape.

Is what is listed considered a basic kit, or should I add something else as well? There is no mention of paper or ink, so do I assume that they will all be supplied?

Thank you for your help.

The only "dumb" question is the one that isn't asked! :-) The teacher or shop should provide the paper, ink, and stamps. That sounds like a basic list of supplies to me, although I would also take paper for taking notes. We'll see what others add.

That sounds about right, I should think they will provide card, paper, stamps, etc for each project. If there's something you need I'm sure you can borrow from someone else. If the class is being held at a shop you will have plenty of opportunity to buy anything else you want!

Enjoy yourself.

Thanks for the quick replies, the class is at a show so although I could buy stuff it won't be as easy as if it was in a shop. I am very excited about it.

Looks like a good basic kit to me. The only thing I'd add is some note paper, as mentioned by a previous poster, and perhaps a bandaid or two (not sure what you call them in New Zealand - small bandages) - I always take them if I'm going to be using a craft knife for anything!

I would take 1 scissor for cutting paper, 1 for ribbon and 1 for sticky stuff. I know this sounds like overkill but paper scissors make a mess of ribbon and sticky stuff can 'gum' up the blades. Don't lend your ribbon scissors to anyone. In one class I took, the teacher just picked up my ribbon scissors and cut off a length of sticky tape!

Have fun!

All I bring to card classes is my scissors, bone folder and the adhesives I'd use. It sounds like some fun cuts if you need a craft knife and mat. Don't know why you'd all need to bring a paper cutter, that one is easily shared. The pencil and ruler is a good idea for marking measurements.

I see someone mentioned babywipes to clean hands (and stamps), and I would bring a ruler and my bone folder. I can't fold a card without mine. Have FUN!!

Also, be sure you LABEL what is yours! Either with a Sharpie Permanent marker, or masking tape with your name. If you can write, right on the item--that is best. There will be no question as to who it belongs to if your item grows legs and visits others in the classroom. wink, wink! Have FUN! So you'll be addicted like the rest of us!

I like taking my ScorBuddy, too, so I can score and fold cards nicely. Like mentioned above, I also take paper scissors, ribbon scissors, and Tonic scissors for sticky or plastic/metal stuff. I like my paper cutter in case the paper supplied needs trimming. I take a glue eraser, micro fine point black and brown markers (to fill spots that didn't get inked when I stamped), ATG glue and refills, dimensionals, tape, and much more...too much...LOL!

I like to take dimensionals so I am not using my friends all the time!

Oh are you going to SENZ? What class are you doing? I am doing the Stampin up vintage card class. Yep, there should be a kit your receive at the class, it will include all the material you will need for the project.

I can't wait to go - very excited.

I've found that some classes at major events can have a quick pace and so I do tend to take extra tools and supplies so I don't fall behind waiting for others to use the class supplies. For example: I take a tape runner so it's quick to apply adhesive rather than my usual double sided tape which can be slower to use. I do take my own inkpads in colours being used in the class (or black & brown if I don't know the colour scheme), foam tape/glue dots, tweezers, bone folder, paper piercer, paintbrush and scrap paper for ink/paint are also in my basic kit. I noticed someone else mentioned baby wipes - a definite staple in my basic kit. Have fun!

These are the things I also consider part of my basic kit. I also toss in my adhesive eraser and aquabrush in case there is not water available for a paintbrush, and a couple of paper towels.

How you have a great time.

Well I have just come back from two days of full on card making. The show goes on for another day but we were so tired and we didn't have any more classes booked in that we decided it was time to get back to real world.

I was well prepared thanks to you ladies and the only thing I forgot to pack was my paper piercer. I did however have a pin to keep the end of the glossy accents open so all was not lost.

My favourite project was the flip card, that was lots of fun. The biggest project we did was a carousel card. I had furniture in the rooms and even a house die cut on the front. So much fun, but I am very tired now.
