how did they do this die-cut background?

Hi,
Hoping someone can help me I was wondering if anyone knows how to do this background using the die-cut? I love how the diecut has a white edge and then it's inked somehow inside the oval, not sure I am discribing it correctly. Here is a link so you can see it.

just to add I'm not talking about the copic marker little pink dots, but the gray ink part and white edging. hope that clarifies

This is just a guess...If you leave the spellbinders (or whatever die) in place it creates a border and can then be run through your machine again with those tan pads to emboss the edges of the oval. Then if you still leave the die in place you can ink the exposed area of the oval, then remove the die and still have a little white edge. Oh, I do this all the time, it's very easy. BluDragon is correct and linked you to a great video. Just leave your die in place and sponge ink inside the die around the edges. I use Distress Ink with a blender tool, but any sponging method will work.

You're welcome. :-)! If you are still on a learning curve with die cutting and don't want to do the extra step of embossing the shape after cutting it, just run it through your machine to die cut it and then do the sponging on the flat shape while it's in the die. It looks just as nice and crisp. You'll still get that clean white frame.

Hi Holly! This is Cheryl from the Inktrap Blog. I'm so sorry if I overlooked a comment or email regarding this background. I double checked my inbox and blog just now and still did not find your inquiry. I'm getting spammed on a regular basis so I'm wondering if it is mixed up in some of those comments.

BluDragon is correct. I cut the die on the first pass and then leave the die cut in the die and run it through with an embossing pad. This creates a beveled edge. I leave the die cut in the die and sponge ink around the edges. I love Distress Inks for their soft finish and have found that the Blending Tool from Ranger is really good for this technique. On my card I used Pumice Stone Distress Ink which has a nice grayish brown tone to it. Here is a link to a written tutorial I did describing this technique a while back.
