I don't know about you, but I feel like using washi tape over and over is cheating. LOL There's no coloring or excitement as to the way your project turns out. Right!
I love washi tape but I think too much of it on your daily cards is overwhelming. I look for inspiration on here and when I see washi tape, I pass it over. Sad! I know.
Yea. I don't really get the whole washi tape craze. It's not really my thing
I bought a couple of packs at Target when everyone first started raving about it. I have only used it to put on the back of envelopes, like a sticker, or envelope seal.

I can see the appeal as far as a quick, easy way to add "a little something" to a project, but I haven't succumbed so far. I kind of view it as one more thing to have to come up with a storage solution for, it's not a lot different from patterned paper (at least as far as the look of it goes - I know that the application and variety of uses is VASTLY different), I have other things that are as fun/more fun in the creative process, etc. I wouldn't go so far as to consider it "cheating", though. I have seen some really creative uses of it! One more area where the whole diversity of stampers and "to each his own" comes into play, right?
I like to use washi tape and then use media over it like maybe some gesso or acrylic paint or water color - it adds texture underneath whatever you applied and you can see some of the washi tape design peeking through whatever you painted or applied on top of it....adds depth and interest.

Cheating might be too harsh a term. IMO, of course.
I use it like I use ribbon or a strip of dp. Do you consider that cheating, too?
I guess I can see the complaint that too much of it is overwhelming, although for me, the same could be said of a lot of things folks do. Interesting to look at, for sure, but not my style at all. That being said, I still try to remember to make a comment.
One of the ladies at my LSS suggested covering a 3x5 card piece with it (hers was on the diagonal), and then using a die cut to cut our the image (she used a Memory Box bird) and then she used both the cut out and the "frame" for two different cards. Pretty cute. I suppose it's best if you don't have a hoard of dp, like I do... so many choices. I have a few rolls of washi, and I store them with my ribbon rolls.
I guess one of the best things about SCS is that everyone has her own creativity, and it's always fun to check it all out, even if it's not really up your alley.

I love using washi tape - it's simply another way to design or embellish a card or project. No different than using ribbon or strips of paper, it's just a personal preference. For me, washi is easier to use and store than ribbon and I rarely use ribbon any more. And it is much more versatile. As with any design element, you of course don't want to just randomly slap it down anywhere with no thought or purpose.
I suppose "too much" of anything on cards or any project could make it feel "overused" to someone but that's incredibly subjective. If it adds to the design, I don't think it matters what you use.

I don't really understand anything about these statements. If you like to design with any product, I can't see why it's "cheating."
I also don't see washi tape as a craze or a trend any more than ribbon, twine, patterned paper. . . . it's another design tool, and those who like it will continue to use it whether "everyone" does or not. Everyone's creative process and tastes are different.
For those that mail cards, it's much easier to use washi for an extra something over bulky buttons or bows. I think I own 6 rolls of washi (3 of which are brand new SU ones i have yet to actually try out!) but I like the idea.

Ahh, but that's not the fault of the washi - that is the "fault" of the person who designed the card. No different than a card that uses 7 different pieces of patterned paper that don't go together. It's not the fault of the paper, it's how it's used.
I have several rolls of it, mostly because I was intrigued by it and Hobby Lobby had a bunch on clearance, but all I've used it for to date is for marking my pens & tools so I know which ones are mine at a get-together. I am totally trying that die-cutting trick now, though
I've also seen it used on Tim Holtz rosette die cuts - if you have the die, you know that sometimes the creases actually break apart when you try folding it. If you cut your cardstock and then run a piece of washi tape along the length of the die cut before folding it, it adds a pretty border AND keeps the creases from separating.
I have 2 rolls of it. I bought it along time ago and on clearance. I use it on tags/bookmarks or in my smash book. Yes it's pretty, but I'm not sure what to do with it. My problem is Japanese deco tape. Oh I love it. I have a shoe box full of this stuff. Kawaii characters are da bomb. I love the character Rilakkuma. I am decorating stuff for my craft desk/area.
No, it isn't my thing either. I haven't paid too much attention to all the samples either so I haven't had much exposure to it. Guess it just doesn't interest me.

I have a few rolls, and I've tried it on a couple of cards. For the most-part, I just can't get it to look right... but I sort of wish I could, because it's fun to work with. And I've seen some wonderful examples, so I think it's like anything else we use - it can be wonderful or terrible, depending on how it's used.

I have the SU! Washi tape that will be in the upcoming catalog and I love it. I made 3 cards in just a few minutes for my 6th grade Girl Scouts who invited me to their recognition and they loved it. They are all stampers and wanted to know what it was and how it worked, guess I will be getting them all Washi Tape when school starts back up.

I love washi! I don't peruse the galleries here much but from traveling the WWW I don't see it overused. Love it in mixed media and scrap pages especially! I just struggle to use it personally. The colours I've bought looked great in the online store but don't seem to quite match other projects i tend towards and I'm quite picky. Even The ones that 'match' the collection I'm buying don't seem to quite match the colours exactly. And I find the colours already on my project show through and muddy the colour of the tape which removes the point of the tape which is its lovely translucency! Yet another product that I will continue to work at to master.
But that is why I like this hobby. I LOVE that every once in a while, something comes along that i dont pick up right away which makes it a challenge. Most of the time I learn a technique or fancy fold and I could pretty much turn around and teach it. Washi kicks my butt so I keep buying it. Shabby chic used to be hard for me too though I loved it and now I've developed a shabby style I love. Still working on that and taking cues from some masters but I'm happy that I've conquered it for the most part. Copic colouring takes time for anyone to master and I'm getting close I think. Eventually washi and I will get along too!

I guess I haven't seen any cards that have "too much" washi tape! I think, like most people, I'm drawn to what pleases my eye! What I have seen with the use of Washi Tape is VERY NICE!!! I have ONLY BEGUN in starting a Washi Tape collection! LOL I'm starting with having something in mind to use it with! With ALL the designs out there, you COULD buy till your wallet is empty! And not to mention, it ISN'T CHEAP, so I guess you'd run out QUICKLY! LOL I too see it as an embellishment to add, a pop of color...! After-all, we do need something new & fun to play with every-so-often, in our crafting!

I don't use it a whole lot for cards, but I used a few different patterns to make a notecard gift set and I thought they came out pretty cool!
I definitely agree that it's not cheating, it's not even always quick and simple, some people do intricate designs with washi.
More than for cards, I personally use it more for DIY projects around the house and I've made ornaments, photo frames, flower vases, etc with it. It's a great way to upcycle and refresh old things that would otherwise be trashed.
Not my thing either. I used it on a M&T at Archiver's and when I got home it was lifting. They used linen paper so maybe it doesn't adhere well to it. Was not a good selling point for me.
I have yet to try it (and I have one roll) but with the proper use and tricks I think it looks cute on cards. I do like the ribbon-style techniques I have saw and adding it to paper and then die-cutting. I am always in for something new & different! :mrgreen:

I guess the whole washi tape is new to me and I really enjoy using it! I use it like I would ribbon, just to give my project or card a little accent here and there. It's inexpensive enough, too. I am just not a fan either. But mostly how it is used . A row the looks like ribbon or dsp maybe . But when I see it used to attach a photo or layer like
you just taped in on no not my style. That to me looks like when a kid uses tape to attach something. Just not my style. Too each his own.
Just ordered 10 more rolls... I mean, it's the same as an crafter turned hoarder, right? Hehe. I find myself discovering new ways to use all my washi. Even from simple things like adding a piece to seal envelopes. I love color in the world and washi is an easy way to add fun color to mundane things.
I have about 20 rolls of washi tape. I don't use it that much, but last night I
got inspired and made a background with several different patterns and colors, keeping it in the green, teal & purple shades. I Just lined them up on a
3 1/4 X 4" card stock scrap in no particular order. After that, I die cut and embossed it it with a Spellbinders die. I am going to use it as a background
for a small image that I will put on with a very thin coordinating border. It looks really cool and cut & embossed perfectly in my Cricut. I am still working on it so I can't attach a pic, but I think it will look great! :-)
I love it. I just started using it. I am now officially addicted. I just posted some cards using washi in my gallery. I like it when I am doing cards quickly or for donation. I can do more cards in less time.

I have lots too, and I at least make sure the colors match when I am using it on a card. My MIL loves it because it's easy for her to use with her arthritic hands.
I don't like the "plaster the card with little bits of tape" technique either.
