Default Lacy Brocade Embossing Folder

I just tried using my lacy brocade e.f. with designer paper and it cut it through almost in a couple places. Has anyone else had this issue? And is there a solution for this problem? Or are embossing folders really only good with cardstock?

Thanks
Shirl

Try misting it before you put it in the folder. I think the dampness will help. Mine is tough on the dp too.

I've also found that using a couple of sheets of paper help- one can be just cheap copy paper. I have embossed vellum before now, and because of the way it is made, it doesn't stretch with embossing, which is what causes the cracks & splits. I found two or three vellum sheets in a folder still gave a good impression, but without damage.

The other suggestion is to run some chip board through the embossing folder to take the sharp edges off. I think it's about the thickness of a drink coaster chip board.

Here's a video by stampingtoshare.com that addresses that issue. Kay calls it cracking, when the embossing folder cuts through the cs in places. Her solution really works and it solved the problem I had with 2 wood grain Embossing folders and the SU Designer frames ef.

Embossing Folders / To keep paper from "cracking" while using embossing folders.

Hopefully the link will work.

In case it doesn't, her solution is to cut a piece of vellum cardstock the same size as the ef, apply double runner tape at top and bottom on one side and then place the vellum inside the ef (affix it to the top flap on the inside). The vellum cs will moosh into the crevices the first time you use it and the tape will keep it securely in place for future use. The vellum will prevent the cs from being pressed too deeply into the design. Amazingly enough it doesn't mute the design, it just keeps it from cutting, or cracking the cardstock. Brilliant solution to an annoying problem!

Give it a try, I think you will be impressed with the results.

The thing I found that works the best is No Tabs on my platform and the usual sandwich.
So: no tabs on platform, clear plate, embossing folder, clear plate.
You still get a nice embossed image on your card stock. I use this on Whisper White and Very Vanilla card stock.

I have one particular folder from Anna Griffith that absolutely drives me insane! I ended up using three pieces of vellum as suggested above and it finally is behaving itself. Thanks so much...I'm a 'Happy Camper'!!

This happened to me also with a couple of my folders and I tried putting a piece of regular copy paper behind the dp, and it solved my issue. Maybe this will work for you as well. Good luck.

I just tried the vellum technique again and mine still cracks. The vellum cracks first, then the paper I run through cracks. Maybe my vellum isn't good? I will try to find some better vellum when I go out again. The misting works for me in the meantime. Thanks....

I have now tried this tip with Stampin Up vellum cardstock and I had no problem. I think it is heavier than regular vellum paper....
