Red face Mother's Day??

I know it is late in the game... but does anyone have any Mother's Day ideas.

My mom usually wants a handmade gift (calls the following week to complain if it is not). I have done a printer's tray; mini books; a star book... I am all out of ideas.

I have trolled the Gallery and Pinterest with no sparks... anyone here have an idea??

Thanks in advance.

(My brother gets off so easy, he just goes and gets her a new kitchen gadget each year)

If you do any sewing, I bet there are tons of cool totes you could whip up. (The current CRAFTS magazine-- I think that's the name-- had a pattern for one larger tote, or for a set of smaller gift type bags.)

How about note or greeting cards in a matching folder with a pen, envelopes & postage stamps?

Do you have any Spellbinders dies and a cutting machine? Even the Tim Holtz tattered flowers die will work.
I make fabric flowers using the Dahlia dies, Peony dies, even the scalloped circle dies. The Tim Holtz tattered flower die works too. Here's one with the Spellbinders Dahlia dies.
MMTPT248 Big flowered clutch by mother's daughter - Cards and Paper Crafts at Splitcoaststampers
I have a magnet hot glued to the back, after sewing all 20 layers together. I use the full 6 strands of embroidery floss and sew the button on at the same time. Then I sew another piece over the magnet and use another for holding to clothing, hair, hats, whatever. I love making these flowers as they all look different with the different fabrics I use.
Cant find the magnets, use a pin backing and that too can be sewn right on when you sew the button on and layers together.
These make wonderful gifts and are unique. I've probably made about 30 - 50 and have given most as gifts.

Good luck!

P.S. the recipient of the flowered clutch doesn't know it, but the flower comes off to be worn!

Just have to jump in here to say shame on your mom! I would never lay a guilt trip on my kids if they didn't produce something! I am happy that they acknowledge the day and I know they love me.

That being said, if that is how it is, then you need ideas

How about some recipe cards, scrapbooked of course, with either your own favorites that your mom likes that you make, or some family recipes that she uses and would appreciate.

Post-it notes holder, covered notepad or shopping list, glass pebble magnets, set of peg magnets, decorated photo frame (could be made as a wipe-off frame for whiteboard markers). Good luck!

Here's a coupon book I made that has various jobs that can be done for mom like washing her car or running errands.

Hope this helps!

I love the idea about a note card/greeting card set with envelopes all tied up pretty!

How about a pretty board with some chalkboard vinyl? I am making my mom a card and I found an ugly old mini chalkboard that had a quote painted on it that I am repainting the frame/adding new chalkboard vinyl onto/adding some washi stripes/felt flowers on the frame.

An upcycle craft after a thrift store trip could be cool.

What about a gift cert to either your local craft store or big craft/fabric store with the intention that she gets to pick out the colors, materials, etc, and then you can create it together? That way, you have some time!

I have often bought hanging baskets because my mom is a gardener... But you could always create a cute pot with herbs and lettuces that she could use...

And really, she complains? Oh, wait, maybe we have the same mom! ;)

One of my daughters made everyone a really cute gift for Christmas. She got some plain frames, painted the insert with chalkboard paint and glued glass pebbles around the entire frame. Each pebble had a picture or word underneath that represented things about the recipient - the music they liked, inside jokes, hobbies, etc. They were all very cute and well-received. I like to write quotes on mine. Right now it says "Happy for no reason"

Hi Juliana!

Another idea would be to add a chalkboard to an old or purchased frame, then alter the frame in your fabby style with a splash of creative goodies in one corner or along an edge. Why did I think of this? Because I can never find a quick bit of note paper in my kitchen for jotting down something I need to remember!! Accccccccccccccck!!! ;)

I'm pretty much a card maker, so when I have to come up with a 3D item I break out in a sweat! There are some great ideas in this thread, for Mother's Day or for any gift. Thanks everyone for sharing with this 3D impaired crafter.

Talking

Thank you folks for all the great ideas. It turns out a friend with a sick child needed me this week. And that is where I needed to be, not in my studio.

I was able to carve out some time (with the help of my family) last night and made a card. I found a great image @ A Day for Daisies.

My card is here: Mother Child and Book

Again, I can't thank you all for your great ideas and will consider them for this Christmas !!

That is an adorable card! You were where you needed to be this week and I hope your Mom understands that and appreciates the love behind the card as well as the sweetness of it. Thanks for sharing what you made with us
