Does anyone have it? I have thought about buying it, but everyone laughs at me. I think it would be very handy to have. Just wondering what you think of it, if you have it. TIA

I have it and I love it. It is really easy for me to just hold it down on the paper and pull upwards vs. trying to get a straight line tearing it myself. I do both. Some people don't like it but I do.
I have it and I do use it. But I will say that sometimes I think it can look too uniform, which isn't my look when I'm going for the torn-edge style...
I didnt like mine, I sold it to someone else in here. I found that it gave TOO uniform an edge, which defeats the purpose, I think. Also, I found that that it left an impression on the paper.
Someone had mentioned it was good for tearing vellum though, which Ive not tried.
at the Salt Lake City Regionals. I already had the tool, and loved it, but learned a lot from the demo. You hold the part that's being torn off (the part you throw away) at different angles for different looks of tears. For example:
If the tearing edge is on the left and you are pulling off the piece on the right, and want a uniform look (pretty straight), you pull with your right hand up and to the left against the tearing edge.
If you want a jagged look pull upwards, and keep swivelling your hand from left to right.
I hope this makes sense. I did a border a few days ago of what was supposed to look like the ocean water. I did a layer of ballet blue with a layer of white vellum on top and underneath it, showing all three edges. To make the waves, I tore along with the tearing edge for an inch and then "waved" up to a tip and then went down again to the tearing edge... repeated. The vellum looked awesome from this.
I know you could probably do this by hand, but it's VERY quick with the TE. Another thing is, essentially, the papers are still straight across the same size. It looks very neat. LMK if you want a pic of my ocean!

I totally love the torn edge look and finally broke down and got one. I LOVE it! It is a bit uniform as some have said but I tear the bottom side up and flip when I go to put on my card etc. and it seems to have a more "torn" look to it. Besides if you have a ton to be tearing then you really dont want to do it completely by hand!

hey cari, you know how i totally wanted one forever? well then i saw one and i don't even want it anymore. it makes the paper tear look like it was cut w/ the decorative edge scissors. it's not rough enough, kwim? it doesn't have that actual torn look to it. i guess you could try it out if you get it, but i think tearing it by hand looks better, even though it takes longer.
I like the idea of lop sided tearing.. I don't like uniformity to my tears... I just can't justify spending all that money on one little thing when I can use that money for a set of stamps or something!! But I am not a demo so not trying to get my customers to buy one.. lol
I love mine. I like the results I get by wiggling it while I tear. I can make the tear go where I want it. By hand alone, the edge was never quite where I wanted it.
I borrowed the tearing edge from my upline and didn't like
the way the tear was TOO perfect. I found I was looking for a more freestyle, but mostly straight torn edge & this was WAY too perfect looking for my wild and crazy nature. LOL
I read the post about the various ways to use the tearing edge & perhaps I will need to borrow it again to see if I can apply any other the other teniques mentioned in this thread.

I love my TE. Although as many have stated it can give a more 'uniform' teared edge (sounds like an oxymoron :? ), it is fast and can be modified to give a more 'tear' look. The other technique I use it for is tearing mulberry paper. Nothing could be easier! Use the TE and pull out the threads of the mulberry paper - just beautiful!
It bit me when I tried to get it out of the plastic sleeve it comes in.
I had to tear the sleeve apart to get it out because the plastic was stuck to the cutter. And it cut me in the process!
So, I decided to forgive it eventually and give it a try. The edge was too uniform looking and I haven't used it since. In fact, I don't even know where it is.
At my last workshop I demo'd it for the first time. I sold 3. I'm a hobby demo and only do 1 - 3 shows /year. Wow! To me, that's a pretty high number/percentage of customers interested in such a tool. My description during the demo included that usually you buy this sort of tool at a scrapbook store with only a blade on one edge for $20. Ours has 2 different tearing edges.
Also, I like mine. Sometimes I use it on a sheet of paper. Then, I tear that sheet into smaller pieces and layer them to get a more uneven look. Make sense?
Mulberry paper is a specialty paper made out of fibers from the mulberry tree bark. SU! sells it and it is a very light fiberous paper allowing for beautiful looks when it is wet, torn or pulled apart. The fibers create a 'fringed' like look. Not all mulberry paper is the same however, as with everything you will find differing qualities of paper. SU! sells a high quality mulberry paper. You should try it!
