Oh wow!!!! I am in the company of such greatness! You folks are amazing!
I grew up a pretty normal life in southeastern Wisconsin and after a particularly bad winter during graduate school, I set my sights on the south and keep moving further south. I spent about 7 years in Mobile, AL where I learned my love for all things southern. From there I moved to coastal Florida. I work as an urban planner - which is a head scratcher for most people, they have completely no idea what urban planners do. And no I'm not a citified wedding planner. In my free time, besides being a Stampin Up demo - I have done foster care for our local no-kill shelter for about seven years! I am just finishing up with a litter known as the "Steak N Shake" kittens. The momma (Picasso) gave birth to her litter of six darling kittens at our local Steak N Shake - we were able to rescue them all the day they were born and get them to safety (we had severe storms and flooding after that - I really don't think they would have survived). I pretty much dedicate my life to shelter animals and helping those who have no voice get to a better life.
Here are some random fun factoids:
I adore my chickens - they are seriously some of the most awesome stuff on the planet. I started with one coop and I have about four now .... chickens of every kind - including my famous Miss Kitty (white silkie), Rhode Island Reds (who are the boss of the flock), Americaunas and Easter Eggers, French Marans, Polish and Polish Mixes, a Houdan (cross between a Creveceour, Polish and a Dorking), Orps, another Silkie who is all black, and my flock of Seramas (mini's). If you're still buying store bought eggs - please consider getting them locally from someone who is not a corporate farm. And if you've never seen this video - check it out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=of9ItHniTVM
I'm a "slow food" advocate! I'm big on promoting local food producers and growing your own food - although I have yet to see "bacon seeds" for sale :-D
I very rarely use my microwave ... there just isn't something that sits quite right about heating your food via radiation.
I love to travel! Ask my about Iceland :-) or Paris ....
I love to read and lately I've been indulging my "All Things Jamie, and Scotland" flag as I'm a huge fan of the Outlander series!
In addition to my foster cats, I have six cats of my own: Lucy Goosey, Wednesday, Mudpie, Jelly, Fozzi Bear and Tiberius Blue. It might qualify me for "crazy cat lady" status but that's okay. I've also sheltered/fostered over 100 cats/kittens of every shape and size. I still love what I do!
I think we all know someone who's lives have been touched with cancer, but for me - this stuff is dedicated to my dad - who is a Prostate Cancer survivor (twice!)!
You are awesome! And I'm so jealous of your chickens! We can't have them due to city ordinance.

oooh you know the critters are stealing the show in your post right? and WOW on that miss kitty chick! she is a stunner
It's so fun to read these posts.
I love JAMIE too....It's really fun seeing this series come to life on the screen...the locations are grr-ate (insert Scottish accent here) and Jamie..well the casting directors did a FAB job...he's so dreamy!!
It is great to know that there are other Cat lovers out there. I will let you keep the chickens though. Had a bad experience as a child with a mean roster! I do love how they look though and I have a few of the porcelains ones around the kitchen. My home is currently cat/pet free as we just lost both of your cat/family members this past year. One (Moke Moke - Smokey) was 23 years young, who adopted us when he was only a couple of weeks old. He kept following the kids home after playing next door so they told us to keep him. Our other cat/family member, Chloe was 18 years old when she passed away. It is still too soon think about getting new pets, plus my DH and I have been thinking of doing some traveling and we don't need to get a sitter. It was wonderful reading your story though and getting to know you. Thanks for the challenge, this will be my first time to participate.

Be an outlaw!!! I get sad that some people can't have chickens, they are so funny and SASSY!!!!! They crack me up. Everyone should have the chance to have at least two back yard chickens!

Miss Kitty is a local celebrity :-) and by celebrity I mean that even the UPS guy stops at the house just to see her. She's a hoot - she's a bit absent minded and has a larger than life personality.

My neighbor has two, says they are amazing pest control. I just moved here and hoping I can get some next spring.

I think it was JanTink that introduced me to them. Great free ones. They have a ton more, but you have to pay a membership fee to get at them. They have a really fun Mr Brown delivery guy that's *almost* worth paying for.
Hi, Rebecca, from another Floridian (I'm assuming you're still in Florida)! Not really a cat fan, but I AM definitely a Jamie fan! Enjoyed doing your challenge today.
Rebbeca, nice to get to know ya! ;)
Thanks for being a hostess for HYCCT.
I'd love to have some chickens but we travel a lot. I'm working on getting to know a neighbor who might animal sit for me while we are gone. We have plenty of room for them!!!

Hi Rebecca, loved hearing about your menagerie, we are pet-less at the moment, we always had cats but our last little fur person of sixteen years passed away three years ago and we are still not over it.
She is under a shrub at our front door and I still see her sometimes sitting on one of our chairs on the front verandah out of the corner of my eye.
DH is starting to talk about puppy's though, so I think a trip to the pound is not far away and I think if that happens then there will be a kitten coming home for DG (darling grandson) and myself as well.
Hugs
Marg
Ohhh, your chickens and kitties are all so beautiful. Now I want to have some chickens!! I am enjoying reading these stories to get to know everyone better. Thanks for sharing some Fun Facts about yourself, Rebecca.
