I am a Mom to two Jack Russell terriers. I love dogs so much that I cant help but react like a little kid whenever I see a dog. My nickname is the Fairydogmother. DHs is the Dogfather.
I grew up on Long Island where I was active in theatre. I also studied voice in college. I have always enjoyed various forms of creative endeavors, whether singing, acting, making jewelry, painting or writing. I like to cook and garden.
I am NOT a morning person. After 34 years of marriage I still cannot convince my husband that just because my eyes are open and I appear to be awake, doesnt mean I am awake.
I love being outside Autumn, Winter and Spring. Once Summer comes, I hibernate in air conditioning or seek refuge in a cold climate. If I won the lottery, I would buy a Summer home in Alaska.
I was in grammar school when my Aunt Mary, (my Moms sister) was diagnosed with breast cancer. My Mother was on the phone and I heard her say that while my Aunt was on the operating table, the doctor went out to ask my Uncles permission to take off her breast. Even at a young age, this resonated with me. How could a person give permission to amputate another persons body part? Back then, the surgeons used the Halstead procedure, which involved not only taking the breast but the underlying muscle and tissue. Years later, my Mom would have her first mastectomy and fifteen years after that her second mastectomy. Both my Aunt & Mom lived into their 90s. Growing up on Long Island you knew at least one person who had breast cancer.
I am so grateful for HYCCT. If our cards provide even a momentary distraction or fill the need for a card to be used without having to get in the car and shop for one or remembering to stop on the way to chemo for a card, then it is all worth it. I am ecstatic over the opportunity to be a Hostess for the first time this year.
Random facts:
I have absolutely no sense of direction. I can easily get lost in the 9 square mile town I live in. Thank God for GPS! I am so double jointed in my hands I could not realize the dream I had of playing the piano. My fingers would bend every which way but the way they were supposed to. I was part of a pilot program that taught HS French to 4th graders which allowed me to become fluent in French, but provided a mental block when I wanted to learn Italian. I wish my Mother had allowed my Grandmother to teach me Italian at a young age. I get carsick really easily due to a malformed Eustachian tube, despite this I love to travel. I am holding out hope that Scotty will once and for all get that transporter up and running. I figure the few seconds of scrambled molecules are a fair trade-off.
We don't set a place at the table for the dogs although they will sneak in and try to go unnoticed if a chair becomes empty.
We don't normally make Baci "walk the plank". This is how she gets into the yard during our construction of the new kitchen addition. Briggsy says he is not a pirate and will not walk the plank. He misses the back yard but he won't walk the plank for anything!

I feel about cats the way you feel about Jack Russell Terriers! My MIL had a bichon frise who thought she was a Jack Russell. When she wanted to come in, she would jump so that we could see her in the window. It was very funny!
I suspect you and I could be good friends LOL! I'm not a morning person either, big time dog lover, we have two West Highland Terriers -- and our neighbor has a new Jack Russell puppy. I love terriers - mine make me laugh every day!

we almost lived in Penfield or Pittsfield, but wound up in CT. My boy Briggsy is such a clown, I laugh at his antics every day.
