Meet Your Challenge Hosts - Stamp_momma (Lori)

I'm Lori... I'm the Advertising Manager here, and I've called Splitcoast home for over 10 years. Splitcoast served as a card making and papercrafting lifeline to me in 2004, and through this site I've made some dear, dear friends. I <3 Splitcoast!

I'm a Kansas City native who's lived all over the country, but for the last 10 years it's been in a little house, in a little town on the prairie of Missouri. My husband is in food safety and regulatory affairs for a large agriculture company, so I have a deep appreciation and respect for my friends who are farming and feeding America. We have two daughters, one of whom crossed the threshold to high school this year, and my greatest joy is watching them participate in activities that they enjoy. Right now that means a lot of volleyball. My heart belongs to #4!

In 2005 or 2006 I started volunteering as a Splitcoast site moderator, and I've been the advertising coordinator for the site since 2007. I have an incredible pleasure of working with the sponsors and advertisers who help us keep the content and experience at Splitcoaststampers free for our members. (When you purchase from one of our sponsors or from a recommendation you found through our site, don't be afraid to let that company know!) One of my many joys through the Splitcoast years has been meeting so many fabulous SCS papercrafters across the country either at tradeshows, card making events or in classes I teach across the country for a popular marker company who all love paper and ink as much as I!

Five years ago, Lydia and I were brainstorming ways that we could help bring a greater awareness to breast cancer, cancer in general and how paper crafting could be a shining light of that dark process...whether therapeutic crafting or sharing with someone who needs a lift. The support and participation in Hope You Can Cling To through the years is exciting and humbling. I'm thrilled to be a part of this effort.

Some random things about me:
  • I love rolling prairies and beautiful midwest sunsets.
  • My favorite spectator sport is rodeo.
  • In elementary school I would pray for rain so we could have indoor recess (Crayola Marker and protractor rainbows, anyone?)
  • Unlike other members of the Splitcoast team ;) I have tall genes and stand at about 6'1".
  • I took up running at the age of 40... I'm super slow, but steady and still run 12-16 miles per week.
  • My other hobby passion is photography, and I've enjoyed taking classes and taking more educated snapshots of my friends and family in the last few years.
  • My favorite place to visit is NYC.
  • When I was 15 I met Jon Bon Jovi, but definitely more impressive to other Kansas City natives ...GEORGE BRETT! BeRoyal! BoysInBlue!
  • I'll forever be a country girl.

This is a more difficult (but even more determined) year for me to participate in Hope You Can Cling To as I lost my dear aunt (also a paper crafter!) to breast cancer in June of this past summer. Like so many of you, I'm determined that early death of a loved one shall not be in vain. I'm firmly committed to the belief that doctors will soon find a cure, and until that day, I'll do my part to be supportive in any way I can.

Let the stamps fly and the ink pads roll! I love you, Aunt Reba.

Thank you Lori, for your write up. I'm sorry about the loss of your sweet auntie. It's kind of fun to randomly meet "stars" eh?
I'm 64 and you are encouraging me to "run"????? i may just get back at that, slowly, as you say.

You must have towered over BonJovi. LOL I would have been star struck.

Nice to know more about you.

My favorite place is NYC also!

I'm so sorry for the loss of your aunt. She and too many others will be in my thoughts as I make my cards this month.

It was such a random, freaky experience...I was a star struck teenager...It was the middle of the night, flashing lights (Don't worry! My mom was there!). LOL I don't remember how tall he was, but I bet you are right. :)

Thank you!

I bet you could totally run! Slow is the key!
I honestly had never run a day in my life until I hit 39, and it took me about 18 months to build up to it, but I did run a half-marathon. YOU CAN DO IT! :)

I enjoyed learning a little about you, Lori. I've always appreciated the behind-the-scenes work you do that makes SCS what it is - Lydia and Beate/Dina are more the public faces but I know you're working away unseen. I'm sorry about your aunt. I have a friend who has moved into the hospice stage now :-(, but on the plus side just this morning I met a neighbour whose cancer had metastasised to her lungs. I knew she must have finished her treatment because the "quarantine" sign (no hugs, don't come in if you have a bug) had gone from their front porch just this last week - but she told me today her last scans had come back clear. That was a positive start to this month!!

I'm happy for the results of your brainstorming! HYCCT is a highlight of the year for me even though I too will be having a harder time this year. Sorry for your loss.

Heartbreaking to read of your Aunt Reba, My condolences.

Lori, it's so nice to get to know you better. Oh how I wish I had some of your height (I'm only 4ft 11 inches) and energy! I'm always so impressed with those who have the discipline to run. Me? - fuhgeddaboudit! I couldn't make it to the end of the block. But I'm so glad you can! Thank you for hosting a challenge this year. We appreciate all you do for Splitcoaststampers behind the scenes. I completely understand what that means

Hugs,

Here's to Aunt Reba. I am so sorry to know that she lost her battle. But let's continue to do what we can in her memory and the memory of others. I am happy to say that I got to meet you in Anaheim, CA at a CHA meeting a few years ago. SCS had a cool booth with balloons and couches. I was thrilled to meet you and several other SCS people. Many thanks that you and Lydia put your heads together to create this special program each October.
