Default HYCCT2014 Shopping List :)

Who doesn't want an excuse to shop???

Please note - this list is provided for your convenience - however, there is NO wrong way to do any of our challenges, and if a purchase of any of the following would be a burden, feel free to substitute items that you already have. We want to inspire you and we want, above all, to lift the spirits of the ladies in Houston who could use a smile and a beautiful card!

Here are some things you might want to have on hand:

  • Embossing paste (some good substitutes for this include common items like spackle or grout). Here's a great video comparing subs:

<iframe src="//www.youtube.com/embed/VQkm6QbrT0Y?feature=player_embedded" allowfullscreen="" height="360" width="640" frameborder="0"></iframe>

  • Dimensional adhesive - like dimensionals, foam tape, etc.
  • Paint
  • Sprays
  • Tissue paper

Either one of the more expensive items would be a lot for me to spend (on my budget) for something I'd probably never use again. I do work for Walmart and can apply my discount to the Kwik Seal (and then my hubby could use up the rest caulking). I really don't understand what you do with it but I do have a question. Alcohol ink is mentioned in the video (as is Perfect Pearls) and I have neither of those. Another expense???? I do have a lot of SU ink refills.....

Question

Lydia - is it worth putting poly/cello bags on the shopping list? Some people don't always have them on hand , and newbies mightn't be aware that the cards need to ship with an envelope and a clear bag.

Lynn, the video shows a lot of ways you can use (and color) embossing paste, but you don't need those coloring media. Once you get (or make) some embossing paste (or one of the substitutes the video shows), you'll want to use it all the time! If you have a stencil (or make one), you can spread the embossing paste through the stencil and the result will be a raised design. You can color the embossing paste first by adding just a drop of reinker (SU works fine). If you don't have a stencil, you can still spread it on the surface of your card (think frosting on a cupcake, for example) to give texture and dimension.

On this card the white background was done with white embossing paste through a stencil.

On this tag I added a drop of reinker to the paste before applying it through a stencil.

When the challenge goes live, you'll see other samples that use embossing paste, and I hope they'll inspire you to play along! Thanks for your question!

Broke down and bought some Studio 490 Embossing Paste today AND a STAMP-it Stencil-it! Set called Pretty Little Posies. Let the fun begin! The paste is white so I'll color it if/as need be.

This is my first time participating in HYCCT. Is this the complete shopping list?

This is a shopping list for items that are more "out of the ordinary" for the challenges. If Lydia thinks that the challenge uses items most stampers would have on hand she doesn't list it here. HTH

Just to note: In the video, she used 'translucent' embossing paste. 'White' embossing paste would be more like the modeling pastes, molding pastes, texture pastes, or spackling compounds, etc., since it does not dry clear and will give a completely different result. But if you're just going for the texture, any will work.
