I love our bats. All our critters have struggled this year from the drought :(
I hope my little batty friends are okay. We've had such a bug shortage - wait, is that really a shortage?? - that they must be hungry. I know our squirrels and deer are starving. Well, not mine - I feed mine pistachios and bird seed - but the non Fiedler squirrels
Oh gosh I hear ya! Drought here too.....:( The bears are pretty desperate and I'm hoping they can find enough food to make it thru winter!! Not to mention the 7 counties including ours that got declared disaster areas due to drought. We neeeeeeeeeeeeeed a snowy winter!!!!!!!!!
Hi everyone! I see there were some introductions earlier. For those I haven't "met" before, I'm Michelle and I live in Southern California. My sister is about 2.5 years cancer free after a bout with uterine cancer. She's had Relay for Life team for the last two years in my home state of Oregon and I have flown up to support her, which means lots of walking and staying up all night! Breast cancer is also a cause near and dear to me because three co-workers and a close family friend, all in their 30s or early 40s, have been diagnosed in the last couple of years. :(
I don't think I've contributed a recipe yet. I found this one recently via Pinterest and made it the other night. It is yummy! Maple Mustard Pork Chops | Bess’s Bistro
Maple Mustard Pork Chops
1 tablespoon butter
4 (4-ounce) boneless pork loin chops, trimmed
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
1/2 cup fat-free, less-sodium chicken broth
1/4 cup pure maple syrup
2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
1 small shallot, chopped
1 tablespoon chopped fresh thyme
Melt butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Sprinkle pork chops evenly with salt and pepper; add pork to pan. Cook 4 minutes on each side or until lightly browned. Remove from pan; keep warm.
Add broth to the hot pan, whisking quickly to deglaze (get all the brown bits left behind by the pork into the sauce). Add next 4 ingredients. Bring to a boil, and cook for 3-5 minutes or until slightly thickened. Return pork to pan; simmer 3 minutes or until pork is done, turning once. Taste for seasoning, add salt and pepper as needed.
Grins, I didn't know either, till the last time somebody asked, but I thought it was just because we don't have TV. It's reassuring to know that I could have TV and still be clueless, LOL.

We've had rain the last few days. I love it. Love having the windows open and fresh air.
Victoria -- my husband thinks I'm crazy but I LOVE a rainy day! And it can rain for a week straight and I don't get tired of it.
I love to garden and have pretty extensive flower beds - but I love a break!!
Right now I'm getting anxious for a frost so I can put the gardens to bed for the winter. That gives me much more time in my studio.
Going to the post office seems to be the hardest thing for me to do...
I agree, Alison. I just get so impatient with the lines. I remember when my kids were toddlers, the hardest place to go was the dry cleaner. I just couldn't seem to get the dry cleaning AND the kids back in the car.... Why I didn't get a dry cleaner that delivered is beyond me!
Hi everyone... I've trying to catch up on all the chatter here & printing out the recipes! I've done a few of the challenges, haven't uploaded them yet... trying to decide if I'm happy with them or not yet!! I am still behind several. Some days it's hard for me to get to my craft desk because of my headaches, and that really aggrivates me! But I have a dr. appt this coming Monday in Dallas, so here's to fingers crossed that I get new meds & I can zip right through those that I am behind on & catch up!!! I have learned so much from reading this thread! I want to meet everyone now!

Sadly I know of one other kid who doesn't seem to need sleep. How many 9 year olds do you know who set their alarm for 6am even though the bus doesn't pick them up until 8am? Sleep is not a priority with him. :confused:

Wow -- when my son was 9, I had to threaten to make him go to school in his pajamas if he wasn't dressed when the bus came. It would have been worth losing an hour of sleep to just not fight with him in the morning!
Maybe I should put all these little recipes into a Hope You Can Cling To Cookbook!! At the end of the month I can put out a PDF with all of them. What do you guys think??
And yes, Queso Blanco is a well kept secret down here too. I *think* most places here use Asadero, but I think the secret is to make a bechamel like you do for mac & cheese instead of just mixing the cheese and the chilis.

I'm Vicki, live in Rochester NY where the trees are starting to turn gorgeous colors. I have two children - big, old children! 16 yr old dtr who is learning to drive and 22 yr old son who is a musician and thinks that means he should have lots of tattoos. I also have two West Highland Terriers that I adore! My husband and I are celebrating our 30th anniversary this year (child bride) and I can't believe it - where did all those years go?
I also been printing your great recipes...they all sound so yummy.
I've been making the cards, just need 3 more to upload...working a 50hr work week doesn't help, but hoping to leave a decent time tomorrow so I could come home & catch up.

OK the kids are watching some nonsense with the hubs so i'm going to go take a hot bath in my clean bathroom. Then the kids will get tucked in and I can relax for the day.

Boy, am I whipped! Working again after 13 years as a SAHM and I don't know how these working people make it through the day without a nap? I'm lucky I don't fall asleep on the drive home......

Oh yes, please!!! I try to copy and paste the ones I like / can get the ingredients for into a word doc and stick it in my recipes folder, but a pdf would be cool.
