I'm glad I'm not the only one whose stamping area reflects the work done over the last month!
I'm exhausted after our church's fall festival party...386 people came through our doors and we are a small church ~80 people attend on Sunday! That was a lot of hot chocolate and coffee and LOTS of candy.

Hope all of you have been having a great Halloween!

We live on the main road of a pretty large subdivision, so we always get at least 100 to 125 trick-or-treaters. The majority of the kids who trick-or-treat around here are, or were, students at the elementary school where I substitute teach. So it's always fun to see how they react to see a teacher. Some of them get pretty chatty. One girl tonight gave me a hug while I was giving her brother candy. One year, one girl looked at me with the most confused look, and then finally asked, "What are YOU doing here?" ROFL!

Best costume of the night was on a little guy, probably 3 or 4 years old. He was dressed as a John Deere tractor.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who made a big mess this month. Here's a picture of my desk. I'm too embarrassed to show the floor around it! And this is all in my living room!

We had about 120 trick-or-treaters tonight. I have to say, I didn't enjoy it as much as I have in past year. Halloween is my favorite holiday of all! I always give out big full-sized candy bars because I love to see the kids' faces when they see they are getting a big candy bar. It just tickles me!

Tonight, though, I decided that giving out the big candy bars just breeds greed and avarice. At the very least, bad manners. I was a little disappointed. I made my bff promise to remind me next year to just buy the same fun-sized bars like everyone else.
Little bit of a bummer.

Could be that I was just grumpy because I could NOT get my links posted in the prize challenge thread. I tell you, I just finished - it's midnight and I started at 7:30ish. I even started PMing strangers asking for help. So, if you are one of those people I appealed to, thank you for being so kind LOL!

what a night.

We're home. The kids had a blast. I'm treating myself to a pot of coffee and stamping tomorrow after I pay bills and empty the dishwasher (I know I know)

I should post a pic of my desk too huh?

if you do, I will too.

Although I've tried to clean after each card, it's pretty much a mess anyway...

Ok, I'm a little sad that I won't have a new challenge to look for tomorrow. Maybe I should start checking out the challenge threads.
I learned so much doing these challenges --- but primarily learned to not be afraid to tap into my own creativity. When making a card, I usually start with someone else's card as inspiration. I purposely didn't do that for any of these challenges because I didn't want to be accused of copying & taking credit for someone else's work. It was a very good life lesson

I'm all done!!! Woohooo!
Now I have to address my box so I can take it to the post office tomorrow. And next I have to clean up my mess - my mom comes for a visit this weekend and I don't think she'll understand why my living room looks like a craft shop exploded in it.

I made two cards today (both almost identical), for a total of 8 cards in only 4 categories. Yeah, I know, I should have made only one and moved on to the next category. But a few times I thought the finished product could be better so I tried it again. Don't worry, they aren't so awful that the medical center will return them ... at least I hope not! LOL

LOL, I agree. The time zone is the thing that puts me off participating in VSN at all, because half the buzz is the real-time chatter. And I am not an owl!!

Melissa, we're usually our own worst critics - sounds like you are too! And I'm sure every single one of us finishes cards and sees things that we could have done a lot better! I know you haven't uploaded any yet so I can't give you any encouragement on your individual cards, but you're making them with a BIG HEART and I have a feeling that would show!!!

Vicki, you should try some of the daily challenges - I love doing them when I can, and it really helped me get to know people - the regulars! Some I love better than others...love the CAS (Mon.), the sketch challenge (Wed.), and the inspiration challenge (Sat.), but I struggle with the color challenge (Tues.). Also, if you like doing cards for a good cause, the Teapot Challenge on Tuesdays is almost always about sending cards to someone who's going through a really difficult time, and Cindy often provides feedback about what the person has said or how they felt when they got the cards! Anyway, there's usually a lot of action on the daily challenges with loads of cards and commenting, you'd enjoy it!

, I've never come to terms with colour challenges either. Sometimes I tell myself that maybe if I actually DID them more I'd find them easier, but I'm too lazy to work out non SU colour equivalents.

As we're sharing desks - this is mine AFTER I did a quick tidy last night.
Now I'm trying the faux torn mosaic for today's Teapot Tuesday so it's covered with scraps of paper .

Just to let you all know, the Teapot Tuesday challenge cards this week go to Kathy, (CAKath), a really sweet SCS member from California, who just this month lost her dear sister to breast cancer - so in some ways, the challenges for this cause are not over yet, girls - here's the link:

Finished the last challenge last night but it wasn't completly dry yet so I'll have to finish assembling it and get it posted after work. I had to play catch up in the beginning but once I got to making one a day it was much easier to stay afloat. I know better now for next time.

Default comment for Lydia (understandblue)

I think it would be helpful if the thread for the prize entries had the words "post your entries here" or something like that in the title. I had to search around a bit and found that you'd answered the question as to where to post the links on another thread. Maybe it is obvious to those who've participated before, but I didn't get it. Just a thought!

I don't remember there being a thread last year where you had to post links to all of your entries in one spot. That thread is just for those who've completed all of the challenges - everyone else is entered just by posting cards. I can't imagine the daunting task these mods are facing trying to keep track of everyone!

I am now going to try to do more of the Splitcoast challenges. Famous last words - today's color challenge doesn't turn my crank at all but I do have some Always Artichoke, More Mustard, and Bravo Burgundy sitting on my desk waiting to be created into something. My room did get straightened up yesterday!

I pretty muich ALWAYS look at the gallery for inspiration when making a card. Either that or one of the many magazines I have! I'd be lost without "casing" - I don't think of it as cheating or copying - it's looking for some inspiration! My cards rarely look like the card I'm "copying" - I'm not that good!

By the way - when will the prize drawings start (other than the ones being done at MD Anderson) ? Maybe the 8th (the day after the upload deadling)? Just curious.

Bridget - I read your post quickly - at first, I thought you said you liked some of the PEOPLE better than others... I didn't think that sounded like you, so I reread it. You were talking about some of the CHALLENGES you like better than ever LOL!

Thanks for the encouragement - I will definitely check out the challenges. I have enjoyed this so much!!

As we're sharing desks - this is mine AFTER I did a quick tidy last night.
Now I'm trying the faux torn mosaic for today's Teapot Tuesday so it's covered with scraps of paper .
Oh Sabrina - you must get awesome light from those skylights! That looks like a wonderful place to work!

Bridget - I will definitely check this out. I lost my brother to lymphoma. It's a very strange phenomenon, losing a sibling when you are not old. It's like you've lost part of your childhood as no one else in the world shares your childhood memories with the same perspective.
Thank you for letting us know about this challenge.

Don't get me wrong, Lynn -- I am constantly looking at other's work, either in the gallery or through blogs -- and I get TONS of inspiration from them! I don't think there's anything wrong with CASEing at all -- and if I ever inspired anyone, I would be so flattered.

I just meant that I didn't start by CASEing someone else - and I usually do. It was a real stretch for me to make my cards without a picture of someone else's in front of me.

I got a little paranoid because I've read a number of threads started by people who's work was copied and they weren't even given credit. I don't blame them for being annoyed and I just didn't want to offend anyone!

Vicki - I laughed when I reread that myself - it DOES sound like I was saying I love some of the regulars better than others - NOPE - LOVE EVERYBODY just the same

I'm so, so sorry to hear about the sadness of losing a brother, Vicki - can't imagine how difficult that must have been, and I'm sure still is.

I bought two bags of fun size chocolate bars for trick or treaters and we only had the door bell ring ONCE!! They were hidden away from my teenage boys so they'd make it to Halloween, now I'm thinking of asking my husband to hide them from me... only thing stopping me is the waste of time for me when I start looking for them!

I think some of this candy will either go in the freezer or to work with my husband. No lie we've probably got 30 pounds of candy now.

Not after about 5 in the afternoon this time of year!
And last year when we had snow that lay for a couple of weeks (a couple of days is rare here!! it was REALLY dark up here. On the other hand it was good insulation .
Do try the regular daily challenges - there's a good sense of community and fun in there too. I skip the colour one, but I usually do all the other ones Monday - Saturday.
