Oh, but wouldn't it be fun!

Funny thing, I'm REALLY chatting online or in a very, very small group. But I tend to be a total wallflower in large groups. And dinner parties in a restaurant with more than four people are out. I have a mild hearing problem and if there's background noise I can't make out a conversation unless I'm looking right at the person talking. Its really annoying, for me at the people who either don't understand why I'm not replying or those (my kid) who tired of me asking them to repeat what they just said.

Of course in Utah, if you said you had 10 kids, people would believe you.

I understand Melissa. I can't hear individual voices in crowds either. I can only hear the person sitting next to me in a restaurant, and then only if she's looking at me. I don't have a hearing problem, but I just can't filter out all the other noise. Comes from growing up on 83 acres in Wisconsin with only 2 other quiet people around. I can get panic attacks in noisy crowds.

OMG, I will sit in the corner with you, and we can make quiet witty comments to each other - this is me too!

I've suffered from panic attacks since the birth of my second son. I don't know if it is hormones or what, but I started getting them when he was 8 weeks old. Maybe it's that fear of dying and nobody left to care for the baby thing.

They became almost debilitating a few years later. I had trouble in crowds and even standing in line at the grocery store. I was afraid that I'd become agoraphobic. Finally sucked it up and told my doc. He put me on anti-anxiety meds (nothing addicting) and it's helped tremendously!

In fact, until I got laid off two years ago, I worked at a job where I attended lots of crowded events, talked to lots and lots and lots of strangers, attended meetings, etc. I can't imagine doing that 20 years ago, when things were really bad.

Good for you!
