A whole page just while I scheduled a back-up, deleted some junk and then had to start again because dumb dodo turned the computer off!! Maybe that extra half glass of wine was a bad idea.

@V, yes, there's suet. Only these days you can't get real beef suet, it's the vegetarian one. In the old days there really used to be minced meat, too. I've tried it - it's not bad.

@ Melissa, a hill start (what we call it here) is part of the driving test. Most people here learn on manual because if you do your test on an automatic you're not licensed to drive a manual (stick shift). Our brake cable needs adjusting - along with all the other things that darn car needs.

Sorry about your head, Lee - hope the meds kick in soon.

They're both good!! Can't make a good risotto without wine, but once the bottle is open you might as well enjoy more of it with the dinner .

Okay. Here's some {{{{{HUGS}}}}}. I'll put the kettle on for tea. What kind do you like? Chamomile should be restful.

Madison WI is chilly and dark too. I'm sure it will be a shock when I head outside in a few.

So Ros says no suet? All bar one version I've ever tried have had suet...hmmm. Whereas I'd never add it to a savoury meat pie, because there should already be enough natural fat in that.

Flambéed with a flame thrower - sounds dangerous, LOL. When we were in Brittany in the summer we had lovely sweet crepes with an apple filling flambéed at the table with Calvados, Yummy scrummy.

As a kid, my mom would try to get me to taste "minced meat" pie, saying "you'll like it. It's sweet. There's raisins in it." Well, I never liked raisins and the idea of raisins and sweet meat make me shudder. I never knew the meat was "nut meat". LOL But to this day, I still associate negative feelings with minced meat pie and haven't bothered to give it a chance.

I haven't cared for the taste/smell of rum since I got stinkin' drunk on it when I was 20. Funny thing is, since turning 21, I rarely drink anything but an occasional margarita and a bit of Bailey's on ice or in my cocoa.

Been there (stinkin' drunk), but that was in my "wild youth." Unfortunately I can't drink much now because I take too many meds that are keeping me alive. One of my favorites is Kahlua over crushed ice. Or in coffee. Or in hot chocolate. Or in pecan pie .......

Oh Kahlua or Amaretto in hot cocoa or mixed with cream over crushed ice!!! Deeelish!!! But I can't drink often at all either....both from meds I'm on and because there's a family history of alcholism so I stay very, very careful with drinking!

Amen to that. My mother raised me on the principle that if it's not good enough to drink it's not good enough to cook with.

ok Recipe time (which I wrote and soemhow deleted oops)

Ros's Ridiculously Rich Rumballs (wheat, dairy and mostly sugar free)

Ingredients:1C ea pitted dates, walnuts and carob buttons (like large choc melts, mostly found at health food shops, I would try Whole Foods or Trader Joes)
1/2C unsweetened shredded coconut
1/8C dark rum

Method:
soak dates in rum overnight
in food processor, grind walnuts until it is in very small pieces before adding the carob buttons to break down.... then add the remainder of the ingredients and blend until a thick mixture. Test for flavour and add more rum, or dates if needed. Can add some cocoa/carob powder if it gets too wet (from all that rum LOL)
Roll into balls, drop into a plate of extra coconut before popping into fridge to store... keeps for weeks, if it lasts that long!

Christmas Version: add an additional 200gm pk of chopped glace cherries... has a very rummy cherry ripe taste to it then...

I still avoid parallel parking, altho I have done it successfully several times. I can't drive a stick. I actually have, but it's a pretty jerky ride. I had an alcoholic boyfriend once with a pickup that he would make me drive when he was too drunk. I used to beg him not to fall asleep as I was driving because I needed him to tell me exactly what to do and when. My ex-hubby tried to teach me, but I could never keep the car running to back it out of the driveway!

My daughter (Jeanette) learned how to drive in the used car lot. The salesman taught her and she took to it like magic. (All my girls are talented.)

Baileys in hot chocolate - now that sounds GOOD. And that's something I can get at a discount in work too. Nearly out of it after the last batch of Baileys choc chip icecream, so I'll have to replenish the supply.

I hear kids these days don't even have to parallel park to get their license. That was the thing that caused me to fail my first driver's test ... many, many moons ago.
OH man! I didn't fail my test but I DID fail the parallel parking all those years ago. And my kids did not have to do parallel parking to get their licenses. But I will say my hubby was raised in these snowy mountains and he makes sure our kids know how to drive GOOD before they're let loose! In fact both of the DVM exam people were hugely impressed with the kids when they took their tests!

Sounds like a wise course. If we enjoy just a little from time to time, it's a yummy treat.

Someone else who avoids parallel parking if possible .
I practice when I go to the park because it's a very quiet road with no through way where I park, but sometimes I just don't bother and pull in where there's enough space to park easily.

Thanks - they sound yummy!
