Challenge Title: Construction Zone Hostess: understandblue aka Lydia Keyword: MIX9
Yay - Fridays are twice as fun with Mix-Ability! Whether this is your first Mix-Ability challenge or your 9th, our goal is to make mixed media, easy, approachable and FUN! We want to convince you that no matter what your style is - you can DO it!
If you want to start these challenges in the pages of an art journal, instead of a card, or on scrapbook pages, or on 3D items - please know - ANYTHING is welcome! We want you to learn and enjoy!
My challenge today is to walk into a construction zone - using METAL. I want you to use some form of metal with acrylic paint or alcohol ink or another coloring medium, and if you want - sandpaper for distressed texture.
You can use these for your matte texture, or others:
Craft metal sheets OR
Tinfoil OR
Metal tape
I glued tinfoil to cardstock, embossed it, colored it with alcohol ink, added gesso and more alcohol ink and then lightly sanded it. Then I rubbed it with brown ink.
I can't wait to see what you do!
Muchas gracias to the lovely and talented Trudy Sjolander and Dina Kowal for the beautiful samples I've attached!
Please remember to put in the correct keyword when uploading your image. Copying and pasting the challenge keyword is recommended to avoid typos. Then come back to this thread and paste a link to the card in your gallery so we can all ooh and ahhh!
Wow, great samples so far. I am a little behind and want to catch up on the others. I am going to have to put my thinking cap on for this one. I am super grateful for the challenges, the community, the samples, and the videos! Blessings, Lela
Hurrah for a Friday off! I do believe it's the first one since these challenges started.
I like the idea of adding gesso to foil - I think I'll go with that...for starters. A whole weekend to play should give me time to try Dina's twist too.
Dina, that was an amazing and very inspiring tutorial, thank you so much! Cereal boxes for chipboard, duh! Then wrapped in foil...and, that is why you clever crafters are here, for people like me! THANK YOU gals for your samples, and Lydia for a super fun challenge; hoping I get to play!

Reason: typo, ocd
Wow! Thanks Dina, for the amazing video. Hmmmmm....I want to go out and buy some spray paint now!! Any color could be used, couldn't it? Thanks for the fun challenge, Lydia! I hope to play but life just doesn't seem to slow down! Eye Dr visit is on the list for today with eyes dilated...that will take a big chunk out of play time!!!
I created one! I put off some other projects because I just wanted to play at this but I don't have much time today so I just inked up some aluminum foil. Thanks, Lydia! Fun challenge!
I'm really going to have to think about this challenge, starting with carefully reading the instructions again. It seems like a lot of steps, but maybe some of them are just options. I'll watch what others are doing to see if something inspires me. I think I've got something on hand for the metal part.
Thanks Dina for the terrific video. I'll be back with something today ... or by next Friday.
There are some awesome cards already in the gallery!! I had a fun morning playing with this challenge and I also combined it with last week's!! Lots of mess but very cool! Thanks for the great challenge Lydia!
Dina that tutorial was amazing. With any luck the easter bunny will visit tonight....chocolate AND foil.....does life get any better! I am still an onlooker to mixed media, every week I learn more and more. The cards this week are stunning ladies. TFS

Awesome tutorial Dini! You never cease to amaze me!
I had to be very creative because I had no acrylic paint on hand and the nearest place to get any was in a store 45 minutes away, and alcohol inks and spray paint is not something I use. My first card was sort of a cheat, but then I figured out a way of getting ink on foil for the second. In any case, I am happy with both cards and had a lot of fun. And now I need to go shopping for some new supplies so I don't get caught out again! These challenges are way too much fun!

Sounds like some of us are facing a few blips in getting this week's challenge in the gallery. So this is for For Rachaelrose and others looking for
Alternatives for coloring metal in addition to alcohol inks--
Clearsnap-MicaMagic
Jacquard-PearlEx Pad
Ranger-Alcohol inks & metallic additives; Color Wash; Archival; Big and Bossy;
Heat set: Posh Metallic Inkabilities;
Stewart Superior-India Ink Black; Memories Chalk
Tsukineko-Stazon
Sharpie Markers
Thanks for this, Janj! I did figure out a workaround that I thought was pretty creative - but it is really good to know my India Ink will work. Never thought of that, nor of trying my chalks. I have chalk ink but it's not Memories, it's Colorbox and Versamagic. I might play a little with those to see what happens. After all, I've got a worktable full of embossed tin foil scraps!
In the meantime, I've got acrylic paints on the way - I know there will be plenty of challenges where I'll want them.
I did see your card! In the Mix9 Gallery! It's lovely! I left you a comment!
