I am looking for ideas on how you organize your scraps. use mostly SU papers but do have others. I currently have 6 drawers with 2 colors per drawer. This is OK but there has to be a better way. Any ideas?
I have 12 x 12 inch plastic files with snaps. I put 3 colors in each file. Each color has scraps in a vinyl page protector for a 3-ring binder. I use a Sharpie marker to put the name on each of the page protectors and also put the 3 colors on the outside of the plastic files with snaps. I have one of the bags I got from a Stampin' Up! Convention, like the ones you can reuse for groceries and I put them in these bags. It is very handy when I want scraps because it is only 1 or 2 bags with scraps and not heavy or taking up a lot of space. Love it and it works for me.
I have all my scraps in page protectors by color families standing up in one plastic shoebox. It sits right on my worktable so I don't have to turn around and rummage through my paper files to see if I have a scrap in any color. I have had it this way for a while and I keep thinking I'm going to outgrow it, but it's so in my face that I find I really use up my scraps and I haven't had to change it.

It's amazing will all find ways that work for us. I had some paper from left over kits from Stamp Camps that had gotten faded because of being in the open light in my stamping room. What is the best way to store paper so it doesn't fade. We all pay too much for it to just end up throwing it away because of fading. How do you use up your extra kits from classes or Stamp Camps? I have a ton and don't know what to do with them.
Where I have a stack of cardstock in each colour, I have a hangers in a drawer - one hanger for each colour and then a plastic pocket with the scraps in the back. Where they are just paper scraps from varying degrees of sources, I have plastic boxes which stack, one for each colour.
Just as soon as I find out where I put my my scraps, I'll let you know how they're organized. I remember when I was cleaning up my crap room - I mean craft room - I put them someplace where I would be sure to find them. Translation: I'll never see those scraps again.
frosty, if you are talking about leftover DP, here's a tip I saw on a video tutorial by Jennifer McGuire in an online class about how to jumpstart your creative flow: she takes three pieces of DP scrap that go together in an interesting way, paperclips them together, and puts them in a drawer (you could use any kind of container). She does this for as many scraps as she can, so she always has a drawer full of these little DP sets. When she is stuck for an idea, she picks one paper-clipped set out of the drawer and uses it as a challenge for herself - she has to make a card using them. I thought this was a great idea. Maybe you can adapt it to your own leftovers.

I think the only way to keep paper from fading is to keep it in an enclosed container, preferable not a clear container. If you are looking for ideas to use leftover scraps-I use pinterest to save ideas; and one of my folders is for scrap paper ideas. If you are a member check out with a google search on their site, for 'paper scrap' If you want to become a member; it is a super way to file away computer/blog ideas into separate folders to find easily and print off to use- I can send you an invite request, if you let me know

Kmatuschka - Your posts are cracking me up. And keeping me from feeling bad about my tub o'scraps.
Rachelrose - great idea. The other thing I have been doing is taking three pieces and actually putting them onto cardstock, and then stashing them in my box of cut cardstock bases. (yes, I have a box of color organized cardstock bases, but a totally messed up scrap bin).

My biggest clutter issue is the narrow scraps after trimming the edges to fit a card. They might be 4 inches long, 1 inch wide at the most. I just can't throw them away after watching Kristina Werner's (did I spell her name right?) use them in her videos. Where to put them until I can use them?
Those inch wide strips I use to cut borders with my punches and store them in a box that fits them from Hobby Lobby. then I forget to use them LOL. I store my scraps by color in white bins from Walmart which will stack and the patterned paper scraps in another bin. I use them a lot to cut out tiny stacking flowers and butterflies and put them in plastic bags which I then store ina safe place and forget about.

I read a really neat idea. Someone has a plastic folder that seals up for each color and she places it on top her stash of coordinating color. That way she pulls it out when she pulls out a full sheet of cardstock. I want to do that too with mine. I have a stand up unit that I made out of the metal cubes and each color has it's own place. Plenty of room to add on top a stash of scraps. Hope this makes sense. I wish I had a picture to share ... Maybe soon when I actually get mine done like this.
I have been keeping in mind what the gal from Operation Write Home posted on her blog fairly recently. That if it isn't big enough to make a full card mat then toss it. I keep a half of a plastic page protector in each colors file folder.
I keep my solid colors of (8.5x11) cardstock in a rolling file cart, one file folder for each color. Within each folder I have a cello bag that's about as big as half a sheet; I put the scraps in the bag and put the bag in the folder. That way I only need to go to one place; when I need a color, I look in the scrap baggie first, then if there's not a big enough size in a scrap I can grab a full sheet. I'd never make it with two different locations for the same color paper!
I don't have as much 12x12, but I keep it on the same rolling cart on the shelf underneath the hanging files.
I know that this might not seem glamorous... but I use zip lock bags for my scraps and I have them lined up up in mini milk crates from the $1 store... When the bags get too full I pull out the scraps and let my kids punch through them all and I save the punch shapes for projects! My scraps are already in bags ... So I can see this working for me. I'd probably use the French or German stickers!!!
I keep my scraps organized by color. They're stored in sandwich bags and cut to card size.
Also each sandwich bag is kept in 8 1/2x11 file folders in a sterilite plastic cabinet where the bottom drawer has extra sections that the folders hang from.
I hope that makes sense.

I am in the middle of doing this again right now because of lovefest and vsn and a big push to make things for the booth I did last weekend. I have a total mess of scraps and I can't function with too many of them out they have to be made use able. larger scraps are in hanging file folders in a file cabinet by color.
and then I stamp random sentiments that fit on them , die cut them and put them in tiny clear bags into a top drawer of a baby dresser I picked up at a yard sale and have them as "ready to use" sentiments.
