Default Basement craft areas

I love looking at all the beautiful craft rooms, but most that are photo-worthy seem to be in upstairs areas, with lots of natural light and windows. Mine is not. I'm sure that there are a lot of us who have to go downstairs to find their stash. Who would like to share their photos? I need some ideas to redo mine.

check pinterest for lots of craft room organization. I can send you an invite if you are interested. I had my room in the basement; at one time, but didn't like it because I couldn't look out any windows, (older home) I would defintely use good lamp lighting; probably ott lights for the work area.

I work in a finished basement. There isn't a lot to see TBH because I keep my supplies that I have gotten organized in a pie safe (great grandparents) and chest of drawers and I stamp on my grandmother's kitchen table.

If I was all organized you would just see furniture.

I'm in the middle of a re-organization and trying to determine if I want to go into the Univenture folder boxes and what size for my stamps and maybe dies. So at the moment most of my stamps are in cardboard boxes or in a plastic tub sat on a sewing table that was my husband's grandmother's.

FWIW my table is right inside the doors (source of natural light) as it is a walkout basement.

Here's an old blog post that gives a tour of my former craft dungeon.

Welcome to my craft dungeon! | Purple Place Designs

I have since moved, and no longer have the luxury of having half the basement to play in. The walls weren't pretty, I had to do constant battle with the spiders, and I always had to wear a sweater (even in the summer, in the winter I had a little space heater blowing on me), but it was so nice & roomy. Also, I did have two large windows down there, and the pictures on that blog post were taken during the day. But since I work full time & lived 40 minutes from work, it was often dark when I was down there.

The secret to a basement craft room is proper lighting. If you check this board on Pinterest, you'll find quite a few lovely rooms that are basement rooms.

My craft area began as an unfinished basement closet in a wood-panelled room that I share with my daughters' toys. I still love it because it's mine, however! (I wish it were as clean now as the picture shows)

A while ago there were a couple of threads - Show us your MESS and ABC Craft Cave Dwellers Unite!

Here is my before and after of my crafting cave (post # eighteen). The only physical difference between the two is the white bed sheets (cost $30) and the parrot silkscreened print, but what a difference it makes to my room - and I feel so much more productive now, just because it is so much cheerier down there.

As an update, my husband and I have spent some money to have an electrician come in and update the wiring for our entire basement, then we are beginning a room by room makeover as money permits. Unfortunately, my craft space is not first on the list - my son's band room (he is a drummer, so we are soundproofing a room for him) and the family exercise room are first, followed by a bathroom (yeah - no more running up the stairs to wash my brushes!). I probably won't see my room done until the end - 2 years from now!

I am lucky, in that although my craftroom in basement it still gets natural light, as I have a window at the front of the house and at the back..yes I have a large room:oops: but I use two OTT lights on my work station.

Mine is a walk out basement also, I have a window not too far from my stamp table and one near my computer. I also have a large number of flourescent ceiling fixtures that keep it nice and bright

I have to add, that if I had had free range to have anything in my basement craft area my furniture would have been white because it reflects light. Indeed we only painted the wall next to my area a cafe au lait color because it didn't jar with the barnwood (which is dark).

That said I have had my home many colors but I love places that can do white and tidy with splashes of color.

Me too! Unfortunately, my craft area isn't tidy, yet!

The walls are a light yellow with white trim and most of the furniture has been painted white with purple accents. It is much brighter than the battleship grey it used to be. I am finally on track with getting things sorted out.

I'm not sure I'll ever be a non-messy crafter.

My stampin' space is downstairs. I've used this room as my studio for over 15 years, but only a year ago completely re-did it. I just love the results and I guess others have as well because I've seen my room pinned on pinterest quite often.

My basement is a walk out and the room I use does have a window that lets in a little bit of natural light. I use 2 Ott lights as well. I feel the biggest difference in my new room vs the old (other than being more organized! ;)) was painting the walls in a vivid color I love. I used a color close to SU Certainly Celery. Not too dark for my low light space, yet bright & cheery enough to turn it into brighter looking space. You can see some before and after photos here .

and here's a link to more blog posts of my stampin space makeover.

Very pretty rooms. I feel better that I'm not the only one who creates in a den. I think I really need to clean out everything first.

Subbing - I want to read through this and check out all the links.
I see this is an older thread but it came up when I did a search on LIGHTING.
I want to get some ceiling lights in my basement craft room and really want something decent, want to see what others have.
Flourescent in the other space I had the " daytime type" and any pics I took were really yellow, in person colours looked rich but go tot a regular room and project didn't alwsy look right.
I do have a floor lamp by OTEELITE and love it. But I am really needing better ceiling light, so I can get rid of my 4 lamps.

My dungeon is in an 1880's homestead house in a city. That means old stone ugly walls and spacers.
In the 1970's my 6.2 husband built a dark room for his then photo hobby.
I'm 5.31/2. Shelves too high, no windows, only back of panel walls. But I have made it my own and it has a door that closes me off to the world when I need that.
I am in the process of organizing and coordinating the room and loving it. There are pictures in my SCS gallery, but I dont know how to tell you to go there.

Inspired by a roll of black and white washi tape I liked and had little use for, that became my color scheme. Using many "found" bins, etc. i organized the small room to a fun work space. I can leave a project on the counter until i have more time or do a quick tag or card while the laundry is going. I love my dungeon. I hope you can find the pictures.
