Default Metallic Pencils Resist

I just stamped a flower from In Full Bloom, colored it with metallic pencils and brayered over it with Night of Navy as I had seen done on a card in the gallery. Instead of the striking effect I had seen in the gallery, I have a muddy mess (I did remove some of the ink with a soft rag). Even though I used several colors in the flower, no distinct colors show now. I tried an Internet search for this technique to no avail. What am I doing wrong??? :?

No answer for you, but I tried the same thing a few weeks ago and ended up with the muddy mess you spoke of. :? I don't know what the secret is. Perhaps someone will answer you and we'll both know!

I haven't done this technique but one thought comes to mind.
Did you use glossy paper?

I have a card in the IFB gallery using this technique. 1st I colored with the metallic pencils on glossy--lots of pressure, lots of color. Brayered over with night of navy--again, lots of pressure with the brayer, you want dark color. Then rub the entire piece of cs with paper towel. This will take the ink of the metallic pencils and will make your glossy nice and shiny. Then if you need to "touch" up the flower with a little more metallic pencils.

Here's the link to my card if you want to see an example:
