Birds, Bees and Creepy Crawlies Shopping List!!!!!
This will be for the main.....
We only list supplies that might be a bit more unusual/unexpected.....so this is by no means a complete list of what you'll need for the challenges.
Cheesecloth
Feathers
UTEE (thick embossing powder)
Ooops! We had a change in challenges...no alcohol inks needed this time! ;)
okay, i'm drawing a blank. what's "dp" ??? I've been able to decode most everything on scs but am drawing a blank. (hope i don't feel *really* stupid once someone answers. lol)
LOL....I'm sorry...I need to remember not to use abbreviations so much! DP is designer paper...also called patterned paper or dsp....designer series paper. We don't make anything easy in this crafting world, do we? LOL
O.K. i am so excited about this. this will be my 1st. time joining you. so now i don't have a sign up, i just need to show up right? i'll check with some of the older posts to see exactly when and where to find you on feb. 1. i haven't learned how to post my pix of the cards i have made but will keep working on learning it. (i get distracted and frustrated so easily these days). i love all the things that were said about what people have learned and am looking forward to being an A+ student or as my kindergartener granddaughter says...a self directed learner.
thanks all.

Hi BeeHappy! You're right, you do not need to sign up, just show up. Our first MiniVSN challenge is 2/1 at 5PM EST. How to find us? I think the easiest way is to go to the Splitcoaststampers home page; then click on Virtual Stamp Night from the list under Weekly Challenges. The challenges will be posted in a new thread each hour on the hour.
Regarding learning how to post pictures, I think the best way is to try it. Click on the link "upload a card" , a new window appears & in the upper right section of the grid area, across from "Splitcoast Gallery Image Upload" is a help button. This is specific to uploading a card. Note: there is another help button at the very top of the webpage which is the Splitcoaststampers Help page & is the all encompassing Help page but not specific to uploading an image.
If you haven't already, I'd suggest reading the Stickys in the "Start Here" forum. I think the "Just Getting Started????? Here is a post FULL of helpful links!" is quite helpful. Last the "search" button in the forums is one of my best friends!
Hope this helps! Have fun & see you on 2/1 for the MiniVSN!

Hi beehappy. You have the PERFECT name for this VSN, so I'm so glad you'll be joining us. Marilyn has a lot of good advice in her post. I really want to encourage you to go ahead and learn how to post a photo now, because there's nothing more frustrating than trying to learn it when you feel time-pressured, which people sometimes do on their first VSN. Be sure to follow the directions on Keywords as well, because putting the right keyword on your photo description is how we'll be able to see the card you made for the challenge.
Looking forward to seeing you at VSN.
Learning new skills is awesome! I want to be a self-directed learner too!
But if you do not succeed in figuring out how to post a card, know that some of us play along and do the challenges without posting pics to the gallery. I have even done the challenges weeks later with a friend. Just have fun and make something, that's the spirit of it!

That's exactly what I was thinking! Hope you buzzzzzz by Friday night!

Do the two themes usually tie in together? I'm not big on birds, bees & creepy crawlies so don't have much in the way of those stamps but will try to play along just to see how it works. (thanks for the reminders about learning how to upload pics...i'd have been frazzled trying it first on VSN night. lol).
Will the bigger VSN march 1st be the same theme or is it usually unrelated? Any chance of a hint on the bigger theme so we can start stocking up on things as we get those 40% off coupons??? Amy
At first glance I wasn't sure what you meant by "printer hooked up to your computer." Who wouldn't have their printer hooked up to their computer? Then I thought about all the people who use a laptop/tablet -- that might not necessarily be hooked up to their computer. Just bought a honeycomb embossing folder. Hoping that will work for the "hexagon" challenge.
i am getting so excited i can hardly stand it (the waiting). any suggestions for the "little things i should have in my tool box" to be a little more prepared? if i were to put everything i was thinking i needed i'd need a suitcase. c u on friday
Bonnie- you could always draw a hexagon(s)- you could do it free hand or on the computer. Or you could cut out hexagons and use them as die cuts. No need to sit out the challenge...sometimes we just need to think outside the box. Have fun!

The main VSN in march is the same theme... this is like the warm up to get you thinking that way...
I guess one thing you could do to stock up would be color some images ahead? ( you know, birds, bee's and creepy crawlies. ( ie bugs) because having a tin full of pre-colored images has saved me more times than I can count for these kinds of things.

One thing I have learned through past VSN's is the sky's the limit!
The overall theme is birds, bees, creepy crawlies...BUT sometimes hostesses bring out technique, sketch or color ideas inspired by the overall theme. You'd be surprised at the wide scope of challenges!
I hope you join us!

Kim's right. It's always surprising where VSN takes us -- you never know what sort of link between the theme and challenge the hostess will create.
Oh I just came across this in another post. I missed the last VSN for the first time in a long time, so I want to try to join in tomorrow once work is done for us West Coasters! Thanks in advance to the hostesses who have been working behind the scenes to have everything ready for us.
Oh crud! I have absolutely nothing hexagon and no time to go shop for one. Looks like I'll be sitting out that challenge.:(
Any hexagon shapes on boxes or envies or advertisements you could hand cut out? Or computer generate and print out? Or google and print on thinner card stock?

I hand cut a hexagon shape for later. I also found some SU DP that had hexagon shapes on it - kind of looks like chicken wire. I found clip art and those cookie jars that lay on their side are hexagon shaped and I've made cards with clip art before!!
Not sure if I'll be home tonight or not (probably not) but I guess I can play catch up over the weekend......

Lots of great suggestions already posted here. I was also thinking that if you have some fun foam, you can hand cut a hexagon stamp from that. We can always be creative in crafting outside the box. Where there is a will there is a way.
I cracked up when I read printer hooked up to computer. I do have a printer sitting on my shelf not hooked up. I better hook that up tonight before I get started. I can't wait.
Ran to Michaels and got another sheet of hexagon designer paper (the sheet I had is pink and grey, this one is yellow and white) AND a cute little stamp set from Recollections called "Don't Bug Me". It comes with a bee, spider, butterfly, inch worm, lady bug, snail, and a dragonfly. Guess I'm as set as I can be. Will be out for a while so will be playing catch up later tonight or tomorrow.
I have always wanted to join in on a VSN, but never found one at a time that would work for me. Not sure I can tonight, but I sure will keep and eye out to see the rest of you in action. I may try...I do have some of the supplies. Not sure what I would do for the hexgon, that's on my shopping list for tomorrow, but won't be here for a week...

Thanks...it's o.k. if you don't get one "up" for tonight...it's just easier for OCD/accountant me to keep track on a spreadsheet! :-) I guess I could just do my own...
