Default Stampin' up - Die versus punch

Hi at all!
Recently Stampin up offered the new spring catalog and again they have a lot of stamps with matching dies. Also some with punches but I think the dies are increasing.
How do you think about that fact?
I cann't help, for me it is always more practical to work with a punch than with a die.

I have to put my big shot on my table, I have to built the right sandwich.......sometimes I have a problem with positioning the die and the diecut is crooked.:(
With a punch I'm way faster...

I learned with punches so I have acquired a lot of them. I am loving dies now, but still use my punches as they are fast and easy like you mentioned. Dies take up less space so that is a positive, and many of them cut threw materials other than paper, so they open a world of possiblities.

Personally I love them both! I'm lucky and have enough space that I can leave my BS out on a dedicated space so it's easy to use. Punches are quick and easy but you can only do so much due to the size limits. I'm loving all the framelits! They are super easy to store since they are small and I love that you can stamp them cut! I'm a sucker for anything they put out I guess, lol! Punches are easy and fast though but I rarely make a card without my BS so I guess I"m not much help:-)

I agree with the previous two posters. I use punches and dies on most of my cards and I think there is definitely a purpose for both of them.

I like both and have plenty of each! Just about can't pass them up! Since I'm a lefty and scissors-impaired, these are lifesavers for me. You should determine your own needs and use what suits you best.

Framelits are nice because you can place them anywhere on the card and cut out the shape. Punches are equally as nice because they are quick, but you can't punch your shapes anywhere on a card front, obviously because they only reach so far. I LOVE BOTH TOO!!!

I am also a fan of punches... so quick and easy! what I use my cuttlebug for mostly is embossing. I have a few dies but don't use them very often. If I had a space to use it and not have to move it all the time I might also be more apt to use it oftener.

When I first got my diecut machine the only place to store it was on top of a bookcase. Since I needed a step stool to reach it it was hardly used for about 2 years (I took it down for Christmas cards). Now, it has a home and is getting lots of use. In fact, because my space is still a chaotic mess from moving most recent cards feature embossing and/or diecuts and little if any stamping.

I agree with others that said punches and dies have their own uses. I have lots of both (plus many embossing folders) and love being able to choose what will work best for a particular project.

Happy Crafting!

Love both, but I often feel dies are a better value. I can get a set of dies for what a single SU punch costs.

Still, I do still buy punches once in a while. I keep looking at the bird punch on the SU website. I have the stamps, and want the punch. But can't bring myself to spend the $$.

Thumbs up

I like the dies vs. Punches.

Dies are way easier to carry. When scrapbook/stamping at a friends house.

Dies take up less space.

The Punches take up way to much space. and are big and clunky! And they are hard to store.

And they make your scrapbook/stamping totes heavier!

I am loving dies that have matching stamps. Saves the fussy cutting!

I love both but I love punches a little more. Because I'm lazy.

Same here... although I do not have any of the SU Products.

Try using some removable Scotch tape to hold the die in place on the paper... works like a charm!

I have used both and prefer dies for the most part. I think if you use a punch often...it gets dull and leaves fuzzy edges. I have tried cutting aluminum foil and waxed paper, etc. Dies take up less space and seem to be more versatile. If you have trouble with them shifting..use low tack tape (like painters tape) to hold them on the card stock or the cutting plate. ;)
