I finally figured out a way to store the papers from those cute 6" pads without forgetting about them or making myself crazy having to tear out the page I wanted every time! I found the little plastic boxes in Target's Dollar Spot, and just cut down legal-size file folders into 6" wide by 7" high (at the highest point of the tab) folders, and this is the result! All of the pages are separated out of the pad, so they're ready to go!

Sue, that is a great storage idea and I am going to have to "borrow" it. I really like the part about separating the pages from the pad. I hate having to do that as I am working and definately see the advantage to doing it all ahead of time. Thanks for sharing this and all the other wonderful ideas you have.

That is a GREAT idea! And quite economical! I'm going to try this.

Great idea Sue, TFS! I currently use a really useful box, but think that I may go ahead and separate my pages as you have and put them in a folder and categorize them.
I had a lot of 6x6 and 8x8 paper so I took little crates from the Dollar store and Staples and use them on my shelf, I stand the 8x8 papers behind them...I use the SU Tab Top punch to label each pad...

Thank you for sharing this! It's a brilliant idea! I keep mine in little crates, but struggle with how to keep all the scraps with the pad once I've cut into a page. This will solve the problem!
I did this with my 6x6 pads and my 8x8 pads. Separated all the pages. Then I tackled all of my 12x12 pads. My daughter and I have accumulated a lot of DCWV pads when JoAnns has them on sale. She organized all of them into the paper holders and labeled them. Then I went through and separated all the pages so they are still in the same spot, but loose. I find and use them so much more now that they aren't stuck in the pads. Makes scrapping so much easier.
It's great how one person's idea leads to more great organizational ideas.
I don't like flipping through all those pads either but, I've just been dropping the sheets into hanging file folders sorted loosely by the most prominent color... so lots of times I have no clue who made the paper a year later.
Love this idea! I currently have the pads standing in a basket about that size, but the pads are still intact except for the loose pages and cut pieces. This solves a big problem!
I never really thought about tearing out the pages in the 6x6 paper pads or any other size for that matter. BUT in thinking about it, it would be so much easier to have them lose. Great ideas! TFS!!!

I went through and labeled the spine of each with the manufacturer, name of the paper and the mail colors. I have an envelope in the basket that holds all the scraps, but they're not really in any order.
Hmmmm, do I want to switch my method??? Do you have a way of keeping track of who made the paper and the pad it came from? I've been submitting some of my cards to publications (just started) and they often want that information.

The tabs on each folder that the paper is in have the name of the paper pad and the company (like "DCWV Mariposa", for example), so as long as I know which folder I pulled the paper from, I know that info.

I label my tabs too, and I also keep the cover with each pad as a back-up reference.
I've been looking for a good way to store my 6x6 paper packs so that I can get to them easier, and this looks absolutely ideal for the way I like to work. I haven't implemented it yet, but I plan to soon, as I'm re-organizing my crafts area.
My plan is to use 12"x12" heavy-weight paper, stuff from my stash that I know I won't be using for cards, cut each sheet in half to 6"x12", and use that to create the folders (rather than cutting down file folders). I have a "file folder tab" die that I can use to create the tabs, and a label maker to make 'em "pretty."
Now I just have to find the right bin/box/basket thingie to hold 'em. But I'm geting there! Lana (Bellingham, WA)

The 1/4" difference in width doesn't seem to matter. In addition to the company and paper name I added the prominent colors. I really looked at the papers and took out those I knew I would never use to give to friends; this also gave me a better idea of what I had and had me wondering why I bought some of them!

That's one of my favorite benefits from organizing ANY of my crafty items - it gives you the opportunity to re-acquaint yourself with your "stuff" and purge what you don't love! I'm on my way to being practically "minimalist" (by paper crafters' standards, anyway, lol!)

I finally got myself organized -- followed the original plan, but with a couple of slight variations:
1. I decided NOT to remove the papers from the pads. I did one pad, and decided it was too much work.
2. Instead, I left the pads intact, but flipped them upside down, so the "binding" is on the bottom. That way, I can still flip through them while they're in the box without removing the pad.
3. I used the We R Memory Keepers Index Tab punch along with the tab stickers to make the identifying tabs. I punched the tab from one of the papers in the pad that I knew I probably wouldn't use much, but that represented the color scheme in the pad.
Here's what it looks like so far (I now have 4 bins done -- this is just one of them):

I decided to remove all of the papers because, while it was a pain, I got all of the pain over with in one session, rather than the (to me) irritating minor pain every single time I wanted a sheet from the pad! I like the tab punches - nice spin! I don't have nearly as many pads...

Yeah, this exercise showed me that I REALLY need to downsize! I had paper pads stuck in corners all over the house, and getting them altogether in one place was a real eye opener! But at least this way, I'll be able to find what I'm looking for fairly quickly. Also, when I read card "recipes" that mention specific papers, I can quickly check to see if I have that paper on hand.
Thanks for posting your original idea! It got me thinking, and that's always a good thing.
