Lightbulb Send a Christmas Card to a Wounded Soldier

I just found this on my Facebook feed. It was such a good idea that I wanted to share it here. I know that many of you enjoy making cards and probably (like my wife) have more than you can use right now. Here's a great idea, send one (or many) to a Recovering American Soldier. The address is:

Recovering American Soldier
c/o Walter Reed Army Medical Center
6900 Georgia Ave., NW
Washington, D.C. 20307-5001

Our wounded warriors could use some cheering up over the Christmas holidays.

My mistake, thank you for researching this, Jackie.

Correction: Cards should be sent through the Red Cross Holiday Mail for Heros program (Holiday Mail for Heroes | American Red Cross | Military Support). There is an inspiring video on that page.

Guidelines and address copied from that page:

Please observe the following guidelines to ensure a quick reviewing process:

Ensure that all cards are signed.

Use generic salutations such as “Dear Service Member.” Cards addressed to specific individuals can not be delivered through this program.

Only cards are being accepted. Do not send or include letters.

Do not include email or home addresses on the cards: the program is not meant to foster pen pal relationships.

Do not include inserts of any kind, including photos: these items will be removed during the reviewing process.

Please refrain from choosing cards with glitter or using loose glitter as it can aggravate health issues of ill and injured warriors.

If you are mailing a large quantity of cards, please bundle them and place them in large mailing envelopes or flat rate postal shipping boxes. Each card does not need its own envelope, as envelopes will be removed from all cards before distribution.

All holiday greetings should be addressed and sent to:

Holiday Mail for Heroes
P.O. Box 5456
Capitol Heights, MD 20791-5456

The deadline for having cards to the P.O. Box is Friday, December 7th.
Holiday cards received after this date cannot be guaranteed delivery.

That's quite alright, this goes around at least once a year. I'm glad that there is actually somewhere to send them, though.

Wink

There are over 100 VA Hospitals in the country. I hope the cards are dispersed to them all, not just Walter Reed.
