We were braced for the worst and really only lost some tree limbs. Our power stayed on except for a few brown outs. I am glad to hear your power is restored, where are you? My Cousin is around the 80's in manhatten and everything is fine for her, but she can't get anywhere. She is unable to walk very far.
that is where I thought you were. The only NY images I have seen are some beaches along Long Island and Manhattan.
I haven't heard of any looting or trouble from the power outage, is it pretty lawful? I haven't heard much though, I am staying off the tv - way too much drama.
I've seen a lot of police vans patrolling, especially when the power was out. I haven't seen or heard of anything nearby, except there have been a lot of fire engines racing down the street. And they sound like they are stopping close by. Thanks for caring, girls.
Our power flickered a few times, but continued to stay on! We were so Blessed! (And we still are!) I have a heavy heart over the people that lost their homes due to Sandy! Glad your power is back on!! I know I feel very disconnected when I can't use my computer!! LOL!
Glad to hear you are ok. I have dear friends in Brooklyn and Long Island. My long island friend has basically lost her house completely - they hadn't gotten back in it from Irene. Now it only has two out of 4 walls.

Oh, I'm so sorry to hear that. My heart goes out to them. They are in my thoughts and prayers.

TBH they are in better shape than most after Sandy - as they hadn't moved back in after Irene and were already in a rental property (not certain where) they didn't lose everything like so many people. They have a fighting spirit. She said she respects Mother Nature but she isn't going to keep her down. Probably why she has been such a successful entrepeneur.

That is horrible. I am happy to hear your friends are safe and have another home. My heart still goes out to them.
My DH gets Wall Street Journal in every day. You can listen to the news all day. You can read it on the web. Just to see it from a New York newspaper's perspective just was really hard hitting.
To all our girls and guys here who were in the path of Sandy. I am thinking of you all. Stay strong and stay hopeful. I was in New York and in New England after September 11th. I saw your fighting spirit. Sandy was one mean witch but you guys will show her.
I keep praying for a family I met at my eldest's university orientation in August. They lived in NJ but basically NYC. We talked about how they would get to have Halloween this year because of the big snow last year. Oh the irony. It was a fleeting meeting. Their student was in a different major to mine so I chalked it up "nice people but probably never see again". Now I think of them daily. I can't even ask my eldest because he wasn't with me when I met them so there is no way he definitely knows their son. *sigh*
We were fortunate. Never lost power. But I was prepared. My DS is a truck driver and bringing water into Queens and other areas this week and next. Just a few months ago we decided to take down some huge trees in the yard. So glad we decided to do that because I have a feeling we wouldn't have been as fortunate if they were still standing.
We were so blessed and did not lose power, even though there are still people in our town without. We live north of NYC. Bracing for another storm tonight. I work at a high school for girls in NYC and several of the families are severely impacted - one family lost everything, and another father lost his business. Please keep praying. Nursing home residents, hospital patients and the elderly are really having a bad time.

Praying for all of you who have been so impacted by the storm.
Now we are in the midst of a Nor'easter, and we're getting hit with a mix of snow and rain, heavy winds, and near-freezing temperatures. There's already a tree down in the street around the corner. It had been cracked by the hurricane last week. Keeping my fingers crossed and keeping everyone in my prayers tonight.
I'm from Smithtown, Long Island, was out of power for 8 days, luckily no damage to anything else but trees. However, the rest of my neighborhood is still out of power, trees are still down and I have no internet/cable. Good news is that I made cards by candlelight. My hubby and I are currently learning how to knit scarfs for people in need (yes, my husband is helping-and it was HIS IDEA!) so, hopefully we can help out. Already donated clothes, food, toys etc. In one more month we both we be able to donate blood again. Hope everyone else is safe and warm.

Very inspiring to have someone who lost power to be one of the ones donating to help others!

I totally agree. Allyson, I hope the power is back on for your neighbors, and that you get your cable back, very soon. You are, indeed, and inspiration.
Oh Allison you are an inspiration. I love that so many neighbors are helping each other. I seem to hear more about these cases than the looting.
BTW the whole reason I stamp is that it reminds me of when we had blizzards and were out of school for a month and we would do puzzles and color by lamp/candlelight.
Thanks to the person that started this post... We didn't make out that well. I had evacuated with my daughters, but my husband chose to stay and see what he could do to protect the house... bad idea !! We live in Port Monmouth, New Jersey which is the begining of the Jersey Shore. (Exit 117 on Garden State Pkwy) .. We were floodes about 4' water... since my home is a ranch everything was destroyed from one end to the other !! Anything from the waist up I managed to save. Every piece of furniture was destroyed !! Let's not even talk about my craft area... I wheeled a whole cart of SU paper in every color (some retired too) to the curb.... there was nothing I could do. Also, my brand new Brother Electronic Sewing Machine that I just got for Mothers Day... GONE !! I have come to realize that this is only stuff.... If my husband were seriously hurt or even died ... where would I be !!?? I thank God we are all OK !! We do have flood insurance, but only for structure so individual items do not count. We are working with the adjusters now to see what they are covering us for... Please say prayers that I will be back in my house soon. Thanks JoAnn
Oh, JoAnn, I'm so sorry to hear about all the things you lost. You're right in saying that they're just things, and thank God your family is safe, but that doesn't make the loss of your furniture, craft area, and sewing machine much easier to bear. I have a LOT of cardstock and other supplies, and I would really like to send you some. Please PM me your address, along with an idea of when a good time to send them would be. I know you aren't back in your home yet. You are all in my prayers, and I hope that you are settled back in your home soon. {Hugs}
I live in Brookly and we got flooded. Lost some of our stuff and one of our cars. My SIL in Oceanside, lost her house, car and her dog that she had for 18 yrs. She had to be put him to sleep because of the trauma he had been through. My Dh's cousin lost his house in Masapeque.
The good thing is that we are all alive and ready to start over a little at a time.
