Default Hurricane stamping

Well, I'm in the direct projected path of Sandy and although I'm nowhere near a flood-prone area I still expect to be housebound for the next few days.

Time to stamp! I'm wondering, if we lose power, if I'll be able to stamp to a lantern or candle light. That might be difficult.

I'm in the same situation (as I'm sure a ton of people here are!). We have a generator (didn't for Hurricane Irene) but probably won't be stamping - just trying to not go crazy being cooped up with my kids with no cable or internet for a couple of days. Getting them to get all there iPods, etc. all charged to keep them occupied for awhile. I did make sure I got my stamping orders in for new stuff before I lost internet though - got to have my priorities!

You folks stay safe! I live in Florida, so I have seen first hand what a tropical storm or a hurricane can do.

When Charlie came through here in August (forgot what year, LOL) I got all my Christmas cards done. Fortunately, we didn't lose power where we were although just abou 15 miles away the devastation was unbelievable.

Here's hoping the storm fizzles out for you.

I am running around getting stuff ready for this storm. I just heard they cancelled the subways and railroads, so I called the office and it is closed tomorrow. I hope to just sit out the storm and relax if it doesn't require any bailing the basement (Irene I got water..ugh..) Stay safe everyone!

Add me to those in the path. We got a generator last year after Irene as well. We were only without power for three days, but we decided to get the generator "just in case". I hope we won't need to use it. Told my girls (who are teens/young adults) to make sure all their electronics are charged. My stamp room gets decent daylight but I can't stamp in there at night without a good light source.

Stay safe everyone!!!!!!

My good thoughts go out to all of you in the projected path of Sandy. May you all stay safe and your houses, businesses, etc. undamaged. This is serious stuff!

On a lighter side (no pun intended), yes, you can stamp by lantern light. My sister and I did it a couple of years ago when there was a huge ice storm and we lost power for the whole night. Forget about trying to match close colors, though.

Go to your nearest hardware or big box home store and purchase a head lamp! It's like wearing a bright flashlight on your forehead & leaves both hands free to stamp. Yes, I've been that desperate.

The headlamps are fabulous for reading. Michael's carries battery-powered OTT lights. I just bought a second one so that I could continue to craft during Sandy, which I hope does not take a left turn, but goes right -- out to sea.

Laughing out loud at this in the face of possible adversity. You guys are awesome!

Hope everyone stays safe... now, I'm off to Lowe's. Which is where I buy a lot of my crafting supplies, so might as well add a head lamp to the stash!

I'm at work in CT, watching the rain move in.. after Irene last year, everybody in the family got head lamps for Christmas from the LL Bean's outlet. They're fantastic. Stay safe and happy crafting, everyone!

Here's another one! We just got the word that there's no school tomorrow so YEAH we'll have time to make cards for the Cards for Hospitalized Children!! I have a goal of 50 cards for Christmas mailed out by Nov 15! Praying I can do it even though I have a GS sleepover and a week of travel for work!

Just got my first singles from SU - Image the Possibilities and Comfort/Joy stamps! Plus the Christmas Lodge so I can't wait to do some Christmas cards!!

Has everyone frozen some water in empty bottles to keep your frig cold when you loose power!

What a brilliant idea! Pun intended. I'm going to have to look into these lights.

Hope all goes well for those of you hunkering down for Sandy. I've lived in Hurricane Alley for most of my life and have been through more hurricanes than I can count.

Well, listening to the weather right now, I really don't want to leave the house until this storm passes! I am a British wimp about these things though. We aren't hardened to hurricanes. I vote we post any candlelight cards to the gallery. When the power is back, natch.

Lucky me so far. We are a little too far north and it's not bad here yet. Some rain, lots of wind, but our power is still on. I'm going to shower while I still can, finish up some laundry, then plant myself at my desk and make cards all day.

Well, that's the plan.

Found out yesterday that there was no work/school and was excited that I could stamp out some Christmas cards (just got a new order of supplies on Friday too)

I went downstairs a little bit ago and made ONE card. For some reason, I'm just not into it today. Figures, when I have the time to do it, I can't get the juices flowing.

Then I just got the call that there's no work/school for tomorrow either. Hopefully, I'll have some mojo then. Or the day that I go back to work, I'll want to be down there for hours making them.

Praying for everyone in the path of Sandy - we're getting rain and the wind is picking up. Stay safe everyone and happy crafting - love the headlamp idea. Don't plan on going out fortunately hit Joann's on Saturday and stocked up on adhesives.

The wind is really getting crazy now. My power flickered once, but so far we're good. I know we're on borrowed time with the power, however.

So far I finished cataloging all of my new stamp sets, played with my new Core'dinations Card Stock, made 4 baby boy cards, and I'm working on 4 baby girl cards. I'm hoping to get to my October Christmas Cards, a few birthday cards, and some get well cards. I'm probably being a little too ambitious.

Very windy here as well, lots of power outages, working by generator at work, probably the same when I get home. Need to work on some christmas goodies tonight. So glad we have the generator. Hope everyone rides out the storm safely.

My heart goes out to all of you in the storm's path. I'm in WA state, so I'm fine, but I am watching the coverage of it and it isn't pretty. They just announced that the Holland tunnel is flooding. Stay as safe as possible.

DD is in central NJ and lost power a few minutes ago. Thank God for cell phones. We have the wind and rain, but thankfully still have power. Lights have only flickered a bit here.

We have strong winds and rain too.. we are stocked up, got flashlight ready, but I'm hoping for power to stay on.

So far so good, only lost power for a short time and a few tree branches down. Schools are on a 2 hour delay, we were so blessed. Thoughts & prayers are with all still experiencing Sandy and those starting the clean up. Stay safe.

After seeing the devestation, being without power or cell phone service for a couple of weeks seems like a minor inconvenience.

I SO have to laugh! I'm married to one of those (British weather wimps) who is totally obsessed with weather. OK, so we live in Wichita, KS, and yes, there are occasionally tornadoes. You stand a better chance of getting hurt in a car wreck than by a tornado. DH has 3 weather sites bookmarked on the computer, and has had me outfit a "storm shelter" under the stairs in the basement- which he equipped with a 9 inch flat screen TV to (what else?) watch storm coverage on. His alarm clock is set to the weather channel. He announces what the weather will do several times every day, even in GOOD weather! The poor baby keeps saying "there are too many ways to DIE in this country!". If it's not the weather, then he's worried about getting a mosquito bite and coming down with West Nile disease.

Reading some of your posts reminded me about several years ago, when the grid failed and we were without power for about three days in Michigan (back home!). I was house sitting for friends, and it turned out to be a good thing that I never seem to clean out my car. I had a plastic storage tote full of battery lanterns and flashlights from a camping trip in the car, so I was dandy without electricity. They lived out in the country, so they always had jugs of water drawn up, and they had propane for the stove, and candles with matches everywhere. It was summer, so I even had a battery fan/light combo that came in handy. It's very silent when the power goes out, though. (Had a battery clock radio in the car too, what can I say...)

Good luck to all hit by the storm's effects! I actually have had 2 days off because I work for a catalog company in a call center, and due to the storm, we're slow. (And, yes, I am crafting! I have a swap to finish!)

We just got internet back.

We lost power for about 14 hours. No damage to any of our property.

I'm feeling really lucky. Things are really bad not far from here. I know lots of people who are still without power. Today I had a few friends come by to shower. One decided to bring some gas back to her friends running generators. We went to a Lowe's, found some 5 gallon gas cans, but we almost had to fight to get them. The gas stations are mobbed. Many had long lines, well down the roads. But, just a few more miles south of all that, the gas station in my town was nearly empty. She filled up the gas cans no problem.

I got lots of cards done, and now that I have internet I can upload some pics.

Wow, what a storm! I'm in NE PA and we've been without power since Monday afternoon. Trees down/power lines down all over the place! We drove down to work in northern NJ for the first time today and it was a mess! It was a 45 mile drive to work and there were 2 gas stations open selling gas the whole way. The lines were ridiculously long as people were filling gas cans for generators in preparation for a long wait before power was restored. We had no power at work, so we drove back home and yes, I stamped by flashlights! I had one strapped around my head, and a little tripod flashlight in my work space. I made two cards in the past few days, so it can be done! I made sure to only use colors I knew would work together.
But I am very glad we have our power back on, ahead of schedule no less! Hopefully everyone else will be as lucky as we are. Happy Halloween!
