Wink Things have changed

I came across a CD from the 2003 Stampin' Up convention in Las Vegas. I kept it for inspiration, but I have to admit, and no offense to those who may have contributed, it is no longer inspiring. lol Things have changed SO much in the card world. It's almost comical to see what was swapped back then. Thank goodness to evolution!

I have thought the same thing as well!! I notice it when I go through my old pictures of cards I made when I first started stamping.

Also, going through old SU catalogs.

Yep! That's why I recycled all of my old SU catalogs. What in the world was I holding onto them for? Some styles and stamps definitely have a short shelf life!

A friend of mine and I were just talking about this today. We both have SU catalogs going back quite a ways and have both decided that they are going to be recycled. It is fun to look and see what was in at that time but space is a premium and the less clutter the better. I will probably give them one last peak before the get sent out, just for fun!

After I had been doing this crazy hobby for about a year, I went into my SCS gallery and deleted all my first projects. I really regret it now, sometimes I feel like my cards are so basic and "flat" somehow, but I know I've come a long way! It would be nice to be able to remind myself of just how far!

I started Scrap Booking before card making and oh my goodness. I'm not into many cutesy things but I sure have a lot of it in some of my first scrap books. Now who has time to scrap. There are so many cards waiting to be made!!

I'm laughing, because I've often been tempted to delete some of my early uploads, especially the first one which shows as my gallery thumb in the member gallery list, but for the reason you've stated, I just leave them all there.
I'd agree that things have moved on, but sometimes I'm sad that there's more focus on dies and embellishments and less on the good old "old-fashioned" techniques.

Funny, I found one of my first cards I ever made that I had given my late hubby. He kept it, and when I saw it recently i thought "Oh my word..."But it is great to see my progress and recall how even that card brought joy.

I know that feeling but you were probably very pleased with them at the time. And, to be fair, you probably had a lot less stash!

I remember quite some time ago, looking at a scrapbooking magazine from 1996. There was some SCARY stuff in there! ;)

I just got back into Card making after a five year break and I can attest that a ton has changed! I have spent too much trying to catch up! I am working on in mounting my old stamps and figuring out which ones to keep and even though I think most can still be worked into my "new style" there are definitely some that make me wonder what I was thinking!

My kids are always on my case when they look through old home movies or scrapbooks. They say things like "What were you thinking dressing us like that mom?" and I remind them that what they were wearing: clothes particularly in bright tones and patterns, haircuts, scrunchies, bows, etc, was what was cool then...if they want confirmation I make them watch old Full House episodes! It is the same thing with cards and scrapbooking. Yes, my first scrapbooks are full of ugly stickers and my first cards were rather plain, but they were cool then and reflect the times.

What's even funnier is when my daughter (now 20) proudly comes home with an "awesome" nordic style sweater, and I then proceed to tell her all about the same one I had when I was in school! With that theory, maybe "sticker sneezes" will make a re-appearance???? My kids actually like to go back to my earliest scrapbooks (from about 18 years ago) and see how different they are from today - funky scissors, weird cut out shapes, layered triangles in the corners and all.

I have S.U., CTMH catalogs and magazines from 2000. I dunno, I like to look at them. The styles may be date, but I can usually find something to inspire me, even if it's a color combo. And it may look dated to you, but the person who gets your card doesn't know. As a P.S. I will neverever get ride of my first CTMH catalog. It's the one that got me into stamping and I still love the stamps and projects in it.
