I'm trying to find a good foam dimensional product that is the thin like Stampin Up's Stampin Dimensionals. The SU product works great, but I'd love to have an alternative for those times when I'm not planning to place an SU order. I've purchased foam squares at Michael's, Hobby Lobby, etc. but the ones I've found are thicker than SU's dimensionals (SU's are 1/16 thick and the ones I've purchased are 1/8 thick). Just wondered if anyone had a recommendation for a brand they've used (and liked) that offers 1/16 thickness.
I use 3M foam tape on a roll. Mine is 1/16". I like to use it because you can cut to any shape you need. I make mostly cards so I don't need acid free. You can find it in the crafting section of Target and the adhesive section of Michael's and JoAnn's.
There is another called 3D foam squares, put out by Scrapbook Adhesives. Much as I don't want you using anything except SU products. This product is very nice and a good alternative. And come in little squares easy to pull off and attach.

I love dimensionals... they are my most favorite stamping item. I just received 10 packs in an order today. I have seen these that Jody sells: Confessions of a Ribbon Addict: STICKY STUFF STORE. I have never used them so I can't give any info on them. Pam

I make my own out of fun foam you can find at the Dollar Tree or in the kids' craft section at your favorite craft store. Dollar Tree foam I think is 1/8" thick. I attach it by using Aleene's Quick Dry Tacky Glue. You can also run it through your Xyron. You can use your ATG gun or double stick tape too.
Scotch also makes excellent foam dimensional. I used to buy my dimensionals in the hardware department.
I love Scrapbook Adhesives foam square adhesives. You can get them in thin (1mm) and regular (2mm) thickness. I think the Stampin' Up! dimensionals are just a hair thinner then the regular Scrapbok Adhesives foam squares.

and I didn't think there was much difference between SU and Jody's Dimensional Boosters. Its worth a try for $3.50 plus shipping.
I will say that I love SU dimensionals and I do think for the stickiness, they are the best. I have made my own with craft foam and my Xryon. Cheap Cheap Cheap when you are in a bind!!! Google directions!!!

On the paper backing for the roll there is a 'project artwork' by Stampin' Up pictured. The Stampin' Up website is given 'For more great crafting ideas'. Like I said never noticed this info before-just tore off the packaging and used it.it also states, 'Strong, Permanent Mounting'. See what useful info you get if you 'read' the information on the packaging!
I also have a BIG roll I bought from Staples using my rewards check. Since it was a huge roll and from an office supply store, never even thought about it being acid free. Thanks for the info.
Thanks for all the great responses! I am going to look for these alternatives so I will have a back-up supply. I use dimensionals a lot and often find I run out when I least expect it...and I'd hate for that to happen during Christmas card season!

The 3M mounting tape I use is thinner than the SU Dimensionals. I get it at the hardware store, $4.89 a roll. It's for mounting things outdoors, so heavy duty. It's about an inch wide. I like that I can cut it in long thin strips or short squares or whatever shape I want. I also like that it NEVER comes loose. But if I need to, I can remove whatever it's stuck to, without harming anything else on the card, by microwaving it for a few seconds to melt the glue. I start at 10 seconds and go up from there. The thicker the card stock, the longer it takes.

I make my own using the Fun Foam also....the great thing is that you can make them in different colors that will match your project so that they really don't show at all!!!
Has anyone noticed that the SU dimensionals don't seem to be as thick as they use to be? I opened a newly purchased pack today and they hardly lift my image off the card.
Might just be my imagination or a weird batch. I may have to use two from now on. Sure hate to do that though. I'll have to explore the other vendors you all have mentioned.
I have tried every other dimensional product out there but keep going back to Stampin Up. They are perfect in my opinion. Luckily for me, I am in a monthly group so don't ever have to worry about running out
