Sizzix die(& others)- why the "dotted" cut lines

Hi,
I am rather embarrassed to ask this question but here it is. I recently bought
Christmas Tree die (large) #2 by Sizzix. The cut tree has small cut lines...sort of like garland. Why ? I've noticed this with the Cricut as well. For some reason the purpose of these lines escape me.

From her pic you can see each color on a different layer. It fits the cut lines. The same thing for the Cricut. I hope that helps.

Thanks. I see. I want the tree to be all one color but I thought I could do one of two things. Cut along each cut line and very slightly layer to give dimension. (Basically cut the tree into 5 pieces and layer) Or...put a line of liquid glue and then glitter to look like garland. Any other ideas ?

I like this tree but wonder if anyone has the Marianne Creatable (?)/Designable (?) tree. It's a die that cuts and says it embosses. It's about 6 inches tall. I like the look of raised (embossed) details more than those little score/cut lines that I feel forced to hide. You don't have to try to hide embossing.

The dotted lines are guides for you to cut, so you could make a tree where you cut several shades of green or other colours and have one complete base then add layers you cut along the lines to it.

I recently got the bigz stocking die, and noticed the 'dotted lines' on it. I presume the only purchase is to imitate stitching on socks/stockings?

With the stocking die I would guess that the lines are where you would cut it to have accent colors. So the main stocking is one color and the area where the lines are would be cut from another color.

On the heel and toe shapes, one side on each has the dotted line. I assume it's just for the look of stitching, not that you're actually meant to cut there or doing anything else for that matter.

You don't have to cut it, but if you wanted to add a bit more interest and dimension you could cut it out again in a different card then cut the toe and heel (following the dotted lines) and stick them on top of the first stocking.
