What size punches should I get?

I'd like to hear the opinions of others.

I have circle and square dies in all sizes but I have come to the conclusion that I also need to get a few punches, especially the basic shapes. Such as Circle and Square.

I like the EK success/Stampin Up punches, because they are flat and it's easy to store in a drawer.

What size do you think I should start with (my budget is not limitless...).

I think 1'' is a must and then what?

Also, I noticed there is no 1 1/2'' punch (for circle and square) - why?

Any feedback would be very much appreciated.

I like to layer so I would buy a 1 1/4" or 1 3/8" size next.

I have a small square punch, and regret wasting my money/space on it, when it's so easy to cut a square using a trimmer. I do have a larger one, and when I bought it long ago, I used to cut a 'hole' in a card-front so you could see through to the inside of the card. Otherwise, it's not much used either. I have some scallop circles, which always look nice backing up a plain circle. I do have a 1 1/2 " circle punch (a Fiskars squeeze one) which I bought years ago, and all the Stampin' Up! circle punches of 1" and up.

I probably use my 1.25", 1.5", and 2" circle punches the most out of all my circle punches. Square punches I don't use much. I just have one I mostly use to create "flags."

Thanks everyone!! I thought the square one is very useful for card layout that uses scrap, but you may have a point about not using it much.

I'd agree with Novell - I have a 1" square punch which I rarely use (but won't ever give away, either). Circle punches - I guess I have them all from 1/16" up to about 1 1/2" . I probably mostly use the 5/8, 3/4, 1 and 1 1/8.

I use my square punches a lot.......haha.....I can cut a square using my trimmer, but the punch is ALWAYS perfect!

I love all my different sized circle punches. Fiskars makes some circle punches in sizes EK Success doesn't have. But I wear those out a whole lot faster. I do have a few square and rectangular punches, but don't use them that often. My SU! demo uses the corners of the square punches to give the points and or fishtail ends on strips of paper to make them look like banners. They make them more even that if I tried with plain scissors.

I use my square punch a lot!!!!
I would look at the Stampin Up site, they carry a lot of punches that layer with one another. It would give you idea about sizes regardless if you buy from them or elsewhere.
