Kitchen foil will work - try sticking it to cardstock and running it through an embossing folder. You can then spread some acrylic paint or alcohol ink on there to "age" it, getting well into the recessed areas of the design. If you use paint, just wipe over the high spots with a damp ktchen towel before it's fully dry, if you use alcohol ink, use a sanding block or piece of sandpaper to lightly sand the high spots and expose the shiny silver again.

You can also get foil tape cheaply in hardware stores (in fact it's often available in 1 shops here in the UK so worth trying your dollar stores - it tends to be 151 brand here). That's quite wide and it's sticky on one side with a release paper on it. That works great with die cut lettering or shapes stuck down onto card and then the foil tape stuck over the top. You can use a paper stump to refine round the outline of the shapes if you want to.
