Default Welcome to Hope You Can Cling To 2012

Splitcoaststampers is proud to partner with the UT MD Anderson Cancer Center for our third annual month long card drive to benefit those affected by breast cancer.

Whether your stamps cling to acrylic, wood, or to your hard drive, they hold the power to convey hope and lift the spirits of anyone who sees what you create with them. That is the inspiration for our Hope You Can Cling To stamping campaign for Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

We are kicking this campaign off on World Card Making Day - a day of celebration of the power of a handmade card. We encourage papercrafters across the globe to put their talents to work creating beautiful handmade cards to send to patients and their families at the MD Anderson Cancer Center, and, in the process, turn our gallery pink!

Hope is powerful medicine. Here is part of a letter from MD Anderson after last year's event:

On behalf of the breast cancer patients at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas Id like to say thank you for the beautiful handmade cards that you sent to us! The Hope You Can Cling To month long campaign was very much appreciated. The volunteers in our Breast Center enjoyed filling baskets with these special cards. As they made their visits each day and introduced themselves to patients, they encouraged each to select one of your handmade cards. These special cards truly offered hope and lifted the spirits of everyone during Breast Cancer Awareness month! I personally have had the pleasure of opening each envelope. What beautiful work you all have done for our patients. - Maggi Suttles, Assistant Director, Volunteer Services, UT MD Anderson Cancer Center

Many in our community have been affected by breast cancer, directly or indirectly. We would love for each of the patients at the UT MD Anderson cancer center and their families to feel this same encouragement and inspiration and we know this community always rises to a challenge.

There will be special challenges in our
Splitcoaststampers Hope You Can Cling To Challenge Forum to inspire you throughout the month, and we will have some fun giveaways, including of course, some pink!

We'll begin the campaign with three challenges on October 1st, and we will have challenges each day in October. So keep watching this space as we approach the exciting kickoff of Hope You Can Cling To!

Yes!!!! I've already made sure I have a good supply of card blanks and clear envelopes . I suspect I should pick up a couple of sheets of pink cardstock just to have handy, too.

I know I've seen previous threads mention a great place to order clear envies from. Anyone have suggestions? I'm with you Sabrina; I used more pink last October than I ever have before. Looking forward to playing along now that all our wedding crafts are over with!

I can't tell you how much I am looking forward to this event this year! in Feb. I received my own diagnosis. I'm still going through treatments, and will be through the end of the year and perhaps longer. I have a rare and agressive form of breast cancer, so this challenge, which was always important to me (not to mention tons of fun!), has taken on even greater importance.

almost all of my extra cards I have been placing in a box I've made for the center where I take my chemo treatments. you can't even begin to know the joy the other patients experience as they go through the box to take whatever cards they are needing. several other people have also sent cards for this box. every bit of beauty helps to brighten a day in some form or fashion. when going through this journey, you learn to look for and appreciate every act of kindness and every glimpse of beauty you see.

thank you to everyone who sends even one card to MD Anderson. you are touching lives, truly!

now bring on those challenges! Pink rocks!

((((Jennifer)))) I am so sorry to hear this. I hope you are nearing the end of your treatments and are feeling strong right now. You are in my prayers.

I love "every bit of beauty". So true.

I'm so glad you'll be joining us. Pink DOES rock!

Pink cardstock...check! Clear envies....check! I think I'm set. Less than a month until the challenges start. I've managed to complete a card for every challenge for the last two years and hope to do so again this year!

Jennifer I'm so sorry to hear of your diagnosis. I am so happy tho to hear you have your support system in place and near you. It makes a world of difference. This past July I finished my fourth Avon Walk for Breast Cancer and will be doing my fifth in September 2013. Every year I honor those I walk for in some way (names on my shirt, ribbons, this year was a ribbon poster) and would be thrilled and proud to add your name to my list of who I walk and raise $ for.

I knew I'd seen a link before for clear envelopes sold by a gal who uses her profits to make and pay postage for cards for the troops. Here's the link.

Looks like I must be getting into the groove again when I can find the HYCCT thread introducing the third annual event. I'm getting my desk space and head space clear for some serious card making output during October.

{Hugs} to you, Jennifer. Stories like yours make the reason for these challenges more "real" to some of the SCS community. I hope that every new day finds you feeling better and stronger than the day before.

I love your "location" under your screenname. That's a great attitude to have!

I can't wait to start making cards again, I always look forward to this challenge. I lost a good friend in August of this year to cancer & I'll be making more cards this year than my 50 something last year. Thanks Lydia.

This is also my favorite challenge every year. I can't wait to get started.

Jennifer...I am sorry to hear that you are having to endure everything that goes with cancer. Being a cancer patient myself I know what you are going through and am so glad that you have such a great support system...nothing makes it easier than being around people who are supportive. I like your idea of taking cards to the cancer treatment center for other patients. How do you you do that. Do you have a box that you leave with the nurses or do you hand them out yourself. I would like to start something like this before I finish my treatment. I would love to get some advise on how you do the program. People like you are a true inspiration to people like me.
Thank you!

Sharon

Got my envelopes already and they look great! Looking forward to the upcoming challenges and the chance to encourage not only the patients, but each other. Seems like cancer touches all too many of us personally.

I participated for the first time last year and had so much fun! It's such a great cause and I'm sure the families at MD Anderson need all the support we can send!

Looking forward to next month's challenges.

It's so great to see so many friends for last year -- I'm so looking forward to HYCCT!
Jennifer & Sharon --- prayers and healing thoughts for you both -- you'll be my inspiration this year. I'll also be making my cards in memory of my friend Jeanne, who lost her lengthy battle with multiple cancers this spring.

Hey Vicki!
Am I remembering wrong or was it you who won the big grand prize last year?

I'm looking forward to chatting it up with everyone again and teasing Lee about her smilies

I'm ready! So glad it starts on a Monday as that's a good day to do 3 challenges. I only made one card per challenge, but I had tons of fun last year. And ... I was a prize winner which just added to the fun. I think I'll make a workspace dedicated to HYCCT so that my regular workspace doesn't turn into a huge mess. I'll still have to make other cards during October also, as well as have my Card Ministry design team over making cards. I wish they would join me in HYCCT, but it's not likely they will. :( ... Their loss.

You are remembering correctly, Victoria! I just hosted my stamp camp here this week and everyone was in awe. We don't call it the Scrapbox .. we call it The Grand Prize LOL!

Every time I go into my basement - which is where I stamp -- I smile just seeing the Scrapbox. It's been such a blessing!

I'm looking forward to this year's HYCCT!

I wasn't able to participate last year (life happened), but I am really looking forward to this year. My Mom passed away in 2003 from breast cancer and now her sister (my aunt) just a couple months ago.

Go PINK!

Pink rocks!
Jennifer, you are in my thoughts and prayers; Pink definitely rocks!

Hello everyone!!! I am very new to this Challenge month but I live a very PINK life all the time!! I am a breast cancer survivor (so far...smile) and love to do nice things for those who are going through the same surgery, chemo, radiation, etc. that I have been through. That short stop-out in my life certainly made me realize the importance of thinking about what my sisters are going through all over the world, having to endure all of the pain and suffering with the diagnosis of those horrible words--BREAST CANCER. I just hope that my cards are suitable and hope I can get all of the information here in the forum about the expectations! Pink hugs and love to all....
