Hi, I'd like to make some cards to send to a charity, does anyone know of any organizations that ask for cards? I'd especially like to make some holiday cards. the reason I ask is that I'd love to help in some way. I've been a cardmaker for a while but lately I just feel that I put a lot of work and effort into my cards and people don't appreciate them (apart from my lovely husband and family) so I thought it might be nice to do something worthwhile for someone else. I've lost my creative spark lately and hope this might help get it back!
Operation Write Home collects handmade cards to send to the military men and women stationed overseas so that they may write home to their loved ones. I've been sending most of my cards to them for nearly two years. For more info, click here: http://www.operationwritehome.org
Check out the Cards for a Cause thread right here on SCS. Each month it's a different charitable cause, and this month's cause is the Hospice of St. Francis.
Watch for Hope You Can Cling To challenges to be posted - I think October? Fun challenges are posted every day for the entire month, cards are sent to a breast cancer center, and prizes galore.
If you can get a hold of Card Maker Magazine (I know they sell this mag at Michaels), every month they dedicate one page to a different organization that you can support with your cards. The various organizations I've seen over the years are for children, seniors, high-risk teens, service men/women, cancer survivors, victims of abuse, victims of brain injury, Alzheimers organization, and so many others. All worthy causes.

From Our Hearts is another organization that sends cards to troops stationed in Afganistan so they can send the cards home to their families. Anything that you make for the troops - NO glitter, NO feathers, NO heavy embellishments please! I send cards here because my friend's mom started the organization.
My friends and I have started a cards for kids a nonprofit org where we live. We make cards and birthday baskets for kids with long hospital stays and in the local downtown orphanage/ kids home. If you'd like to give us a hand. Let me know and I can give you some more information such as an address you can ship them to. Thanks and kudos to you all who have posted. Handmade cards do make a difference. Its a bit of comfort and its genuine, priceless, and truly touches the soul.
