Smash much?
My poor Smash book is buried under piles of stuff on a craft table, hasn't been touched since before Christmas. Is anybody keeping up with their Smash-ing and actually finishing a book? I thought it would be just for fun but it feels now like every other project that gets started but is hard to stick with to get 'er done.

My two daughters are using Smash books with an online summer class for kids at Big Picture Scrapbooking. With a daily assignment emailed to them and a gallery of pictures to look at, it makes me think an adult version of the class would be fun.

Are they enjoying it or has it become more like homework? It's a great idea to keep the momentum going to finish a book. I think my hang up is that I was trying to be too different from my regular scrapping and not have a theme or a chronology, the way I usually think and scrap. I thought i could be free and creative with it, but it is hard to be creative on demand!

I bought one on sale like 4 months ago and the poor thing has sat in my drawer mocking me each time I open it. I think an online prompt would be a great motivator. I agree it's hard to be creative on demand. I'll have to search online for some inspiration. If I find anything good I'll be sure to post a link here.

I bought a small one prior to vacation. I have one entry in it!! I'm determined that it will be fast and fun. I'm thinking of this as a little summer project.

It has not turned into homework for my girls. We miss some days, but then other days they can do more than one assignment. That is the great thing about having access to the galleries and assignments online. They like seeing what others do with the assignment in their Smash book.
I have not bought a Smash book for myself yet...

One-line prompts sound fun.
These books are so tempting to me. Whenever I walk past the displays (they even had some supplies at our grocery store) I really want them. I'm concerned it will go unused in my stacks of other art pads and tablets...that I love but have yet to use.
It would be fun to have a group of users and follow along in enjoying using them together. They're so ready-made it seems it wouldn't make a lot of the usual mess that other projects do when I create. Maybe something to work on when one is very tired but still craves being creative. I'm often that way in the evenings.

I use mine as idea books. One is for me to do sketches, paste ideas I like from scrapbook magazines, etc. The other I'm using for home decorating ideas as we are moving into a new home.

That's a great idea. When I get stuck I start looking on the internet for ideas and end up down some very unrelated paths. I think I'll get one and use it as a creative idea book with a list of sites that have related items. My bookmarking hasn't been too discriminating so while it's stuff I like it's not directed toward just creative ideas.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts. We're also planning a trip to NY in October. I guess I could use another one for that.

This is exactly what I'm doing. It's a work in progress, so I'm not concerned with finishing it.

I just bought my first one - the Baby style! I've got a new baby due here in six days and I'm going to use it to keep track of his milestones. That, with an instant developing camera and I should be able to get everything in that book. ^_^ I'll make a big scrapbook for him later, but I love the idea of having something I can toss in the diaper bag to record things as they happen.

Cool! I wish they'd had them when mine were little...with 6 kids pretty close together, I didn't get much scrapbooking done along the way!
I've been using the method (though I started with a regular journal) and goodies to keep track of travel. It has been really fun and I could see myself doing more. We did something similar "back in the day" with our school planners and I really had fun with that.

I have one that I use for lists that I keep. I am a little bit obsessive about lists, so this has made a great place for me to keep them all together. I bought another one and I have been cutting out all these inspirational quotes and smashing them to compile as a gift for a friend. Neither book is even remotely close to being complete.

Oooh, I like that idea. Printing the inspirational quotes I pin on Pinterest would be an awesome idea! Thanks!

I took a SMASH class at CKC! It was very enlightening! Basically....just do it!!! I decided to put my convention photos in my smash book. I have been having the best time using it. Once I just let go and realized I just needed to put them in the book!!! I have been doodling and creating. I will share when I am done! Totally fun!
At CKC the class is called No Rules Scrapping or Scrapbooking, can't remember exactly but definately No Rules!!! LOL!!!

I usually get the quotes from my Pinterest board! Its like making Pinterest in real life, only in Smash form. I am also using the Smash tape to decorate it and I am really liking it. I didn't think I would at first, but now I need washi tape in all the colors. Quote: Originally Posted by identicaltripletsOooh, I like that idea. Here's a video that will explain it to you! The funny thing is that it is how my friends and I in the 70`s and 80`s decorated our school planners, scrapbooks, etc. Pretty much scrap/journaling, sketching, idea book....whatever you want it to be!

I use mine for everything scrap related. I made my own and it's got sections for quotes, techniques, shopping, layouts, things I want to try. It's great for using the stacks of magazines I've picked up, I cut out the things in the magazines and stick them in my smash book, so it's all in one place. It's never work, always great fun!

Never heard of this before but what a brilliant idea, will have to start one for all the recipes I collect and just throw into a file.

I've been looking at Smash books and all the accessories every time I've walked into Michaels or A.C. Moore the past few months, but I managed to resist. Until I saw this thread and realized all the things I could do with one. ;) I grabbed my 55% off coupon and ran into A.C. Moore after work tonight.
Thanks, everyone!

I don't think one should feel pressured to enter things on a regular basis, I look at them as a place to keep inspirations, great ideas, pictures from magazines that inspire you, notes on projects you want to do, etc. I have the "pretty" version and I am using it for decorating ideas. I am not saying "I have to enter a new idea every week" I will just enter something when it comes to me, when I feel like it, or when I get a eureka idea.
Don't stress about it

I decided to create one of my own with some supplies from Staples. I am using it as more of a journal and my PLAN at least is to keep it up for the year. I started it out with my One Little Word. Since this is more about me, I didn't want a whole 12x12 scrapbook - LOL! I love the idea of the inspirational quotes and think I will definitely incorporate that! And an email prompt would be very helpful.
