Default Eggplant Envy Ink--a big disappointment!

Yesterday I cracked open my brand new eggplant envy classic pad and it is way too black! It doesn't remotely look purple.

Did I get a bad ink pad or did anyone else have this happen?

The EE c/s is very nice though and I love the color.

Mine is the same. I love purple and I was so excited that this color was going to be a violet color. But mine is almost black, too. Cards that I've seen posted with EE ink look almost black to me, too, so it seems to be the color of the ink. I use mine stamped off or in watercoloring it's more purple. But right from the pad, it's too dark. Maybe someone else will have more encouraging news.

Sorry,
JKroh

I stamp it off. It is a VERY rich eggplant color.... but when doing roses or something in eggplant, if you stamp off the base 2x the next layer 1x and do the top full-strength it is GORGEOUS!

It's a great color, just overpowering in large doses!

I LOVE the Eggplant Envy classic ink. Did you know that when you repeatedly stamp it you have up to seven shades of purple. You should see how beautiful it looks when stamping the Fine Lace or Floral background stamps on the Eggplant Envy cardstock.
Here's another BIG bonus. Try using the Eggplant Envy ink instead of black when stamping sayings -- no black staining on the rubber as the ink cleans off easily.
It is one of my favorite new colors.

Awesome tips, Glenda!

I hope others chime in to say how they successfully use EE!

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Elegant Eggplant way better than the old Eggplant Envy (too pink for my taste). It's so beautiful and rich. I use it mostly for water coloring, though.

Am I the only one who prefers the newer darker ink colors? I wonder if it is that many of you don't have the older pads (the old clamshell style ones), especially in the SS colors to compare. My old Pretty In Pink barely shows up on the page when it is first stamped. And then when you consider that the classic ink is prone to fading a little over time . . . I am glad they have switched to generally darker formulations of the various ink colors. Like Mamakimberly said, you can always stamp it off once if it is darker than you'd like, but if it it is too light, there is nothing you can do about that!

I wonder if I'm in the minority here. I really like the new eggplant color. In fact, I didn't even have the old eggplant because I just didn't like that color purple. And my new eggplant definitely looks purple when I stamp it. Perhaps there's some varying in batches of the ink?

I like the new eggplant, too. When I first got it, I stamped something and thought that it looked black but noticed that after a few minutes or so, it really did start looking more purple. I love using the floral background on grey paper with the eggplant--one of my new favorite easy cards for any occasion.

I'm definitely going to try that! Thanks for the idea.

The new eggplant color is my favorite color now, it's just so rich and regal looking. And like Mamak said, you can always stamp it off and get different variances if you don't like the full strength.

I too thought it seemed to be black when I stamped with it. But it seemed to lighten as it dryed. I like it.

Dark is one thing, dreary and dull is another, and in my opinion EE is dreary and dull and lifeless....I'm defintely going to try the stamp off, stamp off, stamp off thing to see if it improves my opinion. I just bought the floral bg and am heading to the stamp room right now to see how it looks when using EE on grey cs.

Default hmmm I never thought of that.

I never thought of stamping off to get varying shades. That's what I love about this site.
