i'm looking for something that is called a mirror stamp, reverse stamp or shadow stamp. basically a solid piece of rubber stamp that you can stamp an image onto and then stamp and the image is reversed...... i'm having a hard time finding them, anyone know where I can find them or get supplies to make one myself?
If you go to an art store, you can buy various sizes of rubber blocks used for carving your own stamps. Speedball makes nice ones. Then you can get just the right size.
I have used my stamp ma jig plastic sheet for this. It works really well and the image can be placed just where I want it since I can see thru the plastic. Jeanne
We recently did this technique at a workshop using acetate (clear card stock---transperancy ---whatever you choose to call it). It was easy peasy...worked like a charm...could see exactly were to line the image up!
I am wondering if you couldnt just recycle a piece from clear packing to do this...of to go try!
I am looking for the same stamp, I went to Michael's and ACMoores and neither of them carried the stamp anymore.If you find it please let me know. I'm going to check Hobby Lobby's

Hubby gave me some rubber gasket material that was about 1/4" thick that I cut and mounted on an acrylic block. Worked perfectly for me. Check the workshop first! Husbands hoard all sorts of stamping material out there that they don't tell you about! LOL
I got mine at Michael's last year (on sale). It is by Rubber Stampede and is 2 1/2 inches x 4 inches. There is a label on it that shows a cow and also has the directions for stamping. I only mention this because when I was looking for one, I had no idea what I was really looking for. It says, "Mirror Image Stamp" at the top, then lists the directions, then has the cow pics showing the effects of using the stamp! Hope that info helps you. I do think the other ideas would probably work if you just make sure you get a good image on the surface before putting it down on your paper.

I'm confused...how do you get a clear, sharp image when you stamp onto another surface and then stamp that new image onto your cs? Wouldn't it be fuzzy? Would you have to use extra ink so the new image wouldn't be faded like a 2nd generation stamping?

i've seen this technique done with a speedball brayer but obviously only works with stamps that are smaller than teh circumference of the brayer. you just ink up your stamp, run the brayer over the image and then roll it down. if you want to add the positive image alongside to create a reflection, add that after as it's easier to line the stamp up with the brayered image than the other way round!!!

You kinda hafta experiment to find what works best for you--there are probably half a dozen different ways to do mirrored effects with stamping.
Some people use the method you mentioned, and then trace the mirrored image with a bleed proof marker, if they want it as intense/crisp as the original image.

you can also use the cling side of easy mount( where you change wooden mounted stamps into cling). I have some mounted on a block for just that reason but you need the cling side out to stamp on and stamp on paper and when you do the other one with the stamp, stamp off once to make ink the same shade. is it cleasr as mud? lol
I'm so glad i read this thread. I was going to recommend the Paper Smooches one but knowing about the brayer and 'back of the clear stamp' techniques sound great too!
