Title: Journey Through the Ages
Hostess: jacqueline ~ Jacqueline
Keyword: JUN12VSNC
Day/Date: Friday June 15, 2012
Time: 8:00 PM EST
If you could journey back (or forward) through time, where would you go? Back to the Victorian era? The Ming Dynasty? Perhaps you'd like to be a prairie girl a la Laura Ingalls and travel back to the days of the wild Frontier. My challenge to you is to create a card or project centered around an era or time you would like to have experienced i.e. Victorian Era, Frontier, Ming Dynasty, the Renaissance Period, the old Roman Empire, the Future, 1920's, 1970's, etc. You get the idea - your creative choices are endless! Show us your journey by creating a card representing the time period of your choosing and be sure to make mention of it in your description. Can't wait to see where we'll be going!
1. ALL VSN CREATIONS MUST BE UPLOADED BY 10:00 PM EST ON Monday June 17.
2. You have 45 minutes to complete the challenge.
3. Please remember to put in the correct keyword, JUN12VSNC, when uploading your image. Copying and pasting the challenge keyword is recommended to avoid typos.
It is also recommended that you post a link to your creation in this chat thread to be sure your creation is seen.
Title: Parts Unknown
Hostess: Lydia, Understandblue
Keyword: JUN12VSNM
Day/Date: Saturday, June 16th
Time: 9:00pm EST
This challenge was inspired by a photograph I took on vacation in my beloved, beloved, Santa Fe, NM, which has the bluest skies on earth. I was walking around downtown and was in front of a store called "Parts Unknown" and I looked up and saw a beautiful, perfect jet and its trail in the pretty blue sky. Of course my hard drive is such an unorganized mess that I can't find it for you, but trust me, it was the perfect photo for this challenge - LOL!
Anyhoo - I thought it would be fun if we all took a journey to STAMPY parts unknown, which is one of my artistic weaknesses - I tend to do the same techniques over and over and am not good at branching out. So let's be brave tonight! Try something new!!
Here's a video of the technique I used in my sample - I heated up a satin ribbon flower to make it all curly and fluffy! My profound thanks to Dawn Olchefske for the idea!
No need to use this technique - just find something that appeals to you that you've never tried, and go crazy! I look forward to seeing what you do - thank you for playing in my challenge and making this VSN so fun!

Hostess: Glenda, Glenda J
Keyword: JUN12VSND
Day/Date: Friday, June 15th
Time: 9:00pm EST
I love going on trips and have been fortunate enough to have been on several journeys for business and pleasure. One thing about trips though, whether near or far, you need some way to get you where you are going! My challenge for you is to make a card or project using any mode of transportation - airplane, hot air balloon, bicycle, boat, car, truck, motorcycle, skateboard. It just has to move you from one place to another! You can stamp it or incorporate it using paper or an embellishment. Whatever strikes your fancy.
This is my first time being a hostess and I am thrilled to be playing along! Can't wait to see what fabulous things you create. Have fun!
1. ALL VSN CREATIONS MUST BE UPLOADED BY 10:00 PM EST ON Monday June 18
2. You have 45 minutes to complete the challenge.
3. Please remember to put in the correct keyword, JUN12VSND , when uploading your image. Copying and pasting the challenge keyword is recommended to avoid typos.

Day/Date: Friday, June 15
Time: 10:00 pm EST
When you think back over your travels, what comes to mind? Is it a specific landmark (Eiffel Tower, Taj Mahal, etc.) or just a location that you've enjoyed? For me, one of my fondest memories is taking our children to Ocean City, Maryland, each summer. I loved seeing the kids playing in the water and making castles in the sand! My second card recalls a trip to Seattle to visit our daughter many years ago.
My challenge isfor you to make a card or project using LANDMARKS AND LOCATIONS as your inspiration! You might use a stamp that shows that landmark or any image that makes you recall a wonderful journey that you experienced. Please tell us a little about your trip.
1. ALL VSN CREATIONS MUST BE UPLOADED BY 10:00 PM EST ON Monday June 18.
2. You have 45 minutes to complete the challenge.
3. No double-duty entries are allowed in VSN. This means you cannot combine 2 or more challenges into one entry.

For this challenge I want to focus on your stamping journey. I often look back at my cards and sometimes am shocked at how terrible they look, or other times I am pleasantly surprised. It is also interesting to see what the latest craze was at the time in the stamping world.
Go back through your SCS gallery or blog, and select a card to recreate.
Consider the following:
What were you thinking??? ( I ask myself that A LOT, when I look back to my first cards).
What would you do differently?
Why did you change it?
When you link up your new card to this thread, make sure to also provide a link to the older card you made over! It would be fun for us to compare the two!

My card below, is a revamp on this previously made card, which I personally think is just hideous...
Click HERE to go to my blog and see the original card. - I honestly don't know what I was thinking!
I wanted to keep the felt sticker embellishment, and three types of different papers. Instead of keeping all three squares, which was a difficult scheme for me, I altered the layout a bit, but kept it to 3 different papers along with the embellishment!
Title: Journey of the Seas Hostess: Lori - LMcAree Keyword: JUN12VSNG Day/Date: Saturday, June 16th Time: 3:00pm EST
Hi everyone!!! Are you having fun? I'm loving the theme for this VSN!!! When I was thinking about what I should do for this challenge, a song came to mind "Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald" by Gordon Lightfoot. Song Lyrics:
The legend lives on from the Chippewa on down
Of the big lake they call Gitche Gumee
The lake, it is said, never gives up her dead
When the skies of November turn gloomy
With a load of iron ore twenty-six thousand tons more
Than the Edmund Fitzgerald weighed empty
That good ship and true was a bone to be chewed
When the gales of November came early
The ship was the pride of the American side
Coming back from some mill in Wisconsin
As the big freighters go, it was bigger than most
With a crew and good captain well seasoned
Concluding some terms with a couple of steel firms
When they left fully loaded for Cleveland
Then later that night when the ship's bell rang
Could it be the north wind they'd been feelin'?
The wind in the wires made a tattle-tale sound
When the wave broke over the railing
And every man knew, as the captain did too
'Twas the witch of November come stealin'
The dawn came late and the breakfast had to wait
When the gales of November came slashin'
When afternoon came it was freezing rain
In the face of a hurricane west wind
When suppertime came, the old cook came on deck
Sayin' "Fellas, it's too rough to feed ya"
At seven PM a main hatchway caved in
He said, "Fellas, it's been good to know ya"
The captain wired in he had water comin' in
And the good ship and crew was in peril
And later that night when his lights went out of sight
Came the wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald
Does anyone know where the love of God goes
When the waves turn the minutes to hours?
The searchers all say they'd have made Whitefish Bay
If they'd put fifteen more miles behind her
They might have split up or they might have capsized
They may have broke deep and took water
And all that remains is the faces and the names
Of the wives and the sons and the daughters
Lake Huron rolls, Superior sings
In the rooms of her ice-water mansion
Old Michigan steams like a young man's dreams
The islands and bays are for sportsmen
And farther below, Lake Ontario
Takes in what Lake Erie can send her
And the iron boats go as the mariners all know
With the gales of November remembered
In a musty old hall in Detroit they prayed
In the Maritime Sailors' Cathedral
The church bell chimed 'til it rang twenty-nine times
For each man on the Edmund Fitzgerald
The legend lives on from the Chippewa on down
Of the big lake they call Gitche Gumee
Superior, they said, never gives up her dead
When the gales of November come early

Title: Baby's Journey
Hostess: Candace, candylou
Keyword: JUN12VSNH
Day/Date: Saturday, June 16th
Time: 4:00pm EST
Hi there! This is my second time hosting a VSN challenge, and I'm excited to share my challenge with you today! First of all, I have to thank my friend, Crafty Math Chick, for this challenge idea. I mentioned to her that I wanted to do a baby card for my VSN challenge, but I wasn't quite sure about the details of it. She came up with this wonderful challenge and shared this sweet poem with me, so I cannot take the credit for it! Thank you!!!
This challenge is inspired by this poem:
Baby's First Journey by Ella Wheeler Wilcox
Lightly they hold him and lightly they sway him-
Soft as a pillow are somebody's arms.
Down he goes slowly, ever so lowly
Over the rim of the cradle they lay him-
Baby's first journey is free from alarms.
Baby is growing while Mama sings by-lo,
Sturdy and rosy and laughing and fair,
Crowing and growing past every one's knowing,
Out goes the cradle and in comes the 'high-lo,'
Baby's next journey is into this chair.
Crying or cooing or waking or sleeping,
Baby is ever a thing to adore.
Look at him yonder-oh what a wonder,
Who would believe it, the darling is creeping,
Baby's next journey is over the floor.
Sweeter and cuter and brighter and stronger,
Mama can see every day how he's grown.
Shoes are all battered, stockings all tattered,
Oh! but the baby is baby no longer
Look at the fellow-he's walking alone!
Challenge: Incorporate movement/motion/travel into a baby card. For example, you could make a card/project with a baby carriage, stroller, stork, a mobile (since it moves), a rocking chair, etc. I hope you have fun with my challenge!

Title: Road Not Taken
Hostess: gscindy ~ Cindy
Keyword: JUN12VSNI
Day/Date: Saturday, June 16, 2012
Time 5:00pm EASTERN
My first thought when I saw the theme for this VSN was of the Robert Frost poem "The Road Not Taken":
Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;
Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim
Because it was grassy and wanted wear,
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,
And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I marked the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way
I doubted if I should ever come back.
I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I,
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.
I picture this fork in the road with both paths looking essentially the same, mirror images of each other.
THE CHALLENGE:
Use a "mirror" technique in a card. This can be interpreted in many different ways (if you're stuck, search "reflective technique" in the Resource section) and I look forward to seeing what everyone comes up with.
1. ALL VSN CREATIONS MUST BE UPLOADED BY 10:00 PM EST ON Monday June 17th.

Title: Map or Globe Element
Hostess: Brenda K. (tessaduck)
Keyword: JUN12VSNJ
Day/Date: Saturday, June 16
Time: 6:00 P. M., EST
The basic purpose of any map
Is to tell you where youre at.
The maps also help you in knowing
Where youve been, where youre going,
And how to get there. And whats more
Theyll tell about what was there before.
As you learn about your home
You can use maps to roam
Places where you might not ever go,
To compare with what you already know.
The symbols on maps stand for things.
Colors, lines, pictures: Each brings
Ideas across in graphic form,
Like where its cold or where its warm
Or where its crowded or they vote Democratic.
But map-reading skills are not automatic!
Maps are full of all kinds of surprises.
Did you know that maps come in different sizes?
Thats called scale. Its large or small,
Depending on area covered. Its all
Very basic. And there are different kinds
Of maps: Physical, like mineral finds,
Weather maps and graphic relief;
And cultural, like religious beliefs,
Population density and voting patterns.
Whatever happens, that really matters,
Happens somewhere. Cartographers take
That information, record it on paper,
To share with the public, graphics intact.
What theyd seen is what theyve mapped.
Directions, scale, title and key:
What theyd mapped stands for what youd see.
-----------
SO-- I wrote this poem in another lifetime ages ago, before digital cartography, when I was a graduate student in geography. Eh. Im not a great poet, and never made a career in geography (taught lots, though), but Im still fascinated by maps. Must be a paper thing. Also, I like the idea of repurposing.
Lets make a project, using maps or images of maps and/or globes.
My first samples background is an old AAA road map of the western US.
I used a page from a discarded student atlas to make the lid on the second sample, a gift box for a graduate. (Yes, this box CAN be assembled in less than 45 minutes. Theres no adhesive and I used an ms score board!)
My buddy, Moe, used some wrapping paper.
Feel free to use a stamped image of a map, map elements (e. g., compass rose), or globe on your project. Cant wait to see what you all can do with a map!

When we think about the many journeys in our lives we are hesitant about becoming empty nesters. The “nest” has been weaved for years, filled with eggs, hatchlings, young ones stretching their wings, taking flight for the first time and more. Then all of a sudden the nest is empty!
My challenge is to incorporate weaving into your project! It doesn’t matter if you make a card, 3-D object or scrapbook page…as long as you have incorporated weaving.

Hostess: Marg, margscardcrazy
Keyword: JUN12VSNL
Day/Date: Saturday June 16th
Time: 08:00pm EST
In this poem the point of view of one of the three wise men is depicted as they travel to visit the Christ Child. This is one of the worlds best known journeys.
My challenge to you is to create a Christmas card depicting the journey of the three wise men.
Supplies: all the normal paraphernalia and may be a stamp of the three wise men but not essential, using your imagination is the best tool of all.
You might choose to depict the three wise men travelling as I have or them arriving at Bethlehem or the gifts they bring, anything to do with the trip.

...When I saw the theme for this VSN: Journey, the very first thing that came to mind was the book "Journey to the Center of the Earth". Now, I'm not too sure about taking a journey like that, it might be a bit too warm for me.
...But it got me to thinking about the Ultimate Journey. For me, my ultimate journey would be a cruise. It will probably never happen since my DH considers that the Ultimate Waste of time and money. Ahh, well.
...I thought I'd look for the cruise ship that was the most unique...because I wouldn't want to go on just ANY old cruise ship, now, would I?
And I found the Norwegian Pearl...
Now that's a cool cruise ship!

Well, it's the last journey of the night -- THE FINAL FRONTIER!
Tonight as the new day takes over, we are journeying through TIME and SPACE.These are the voyages of the stampers Splitcoast. Our forty-five minute mission: to explore strange new worlds (in other words, clean off your desk), to seek out new images and new techniques, to boldly go where no stamper has gone before!
My challenge is to use images and themes revolving (ha!) around the ideas of TIME and SPACE.
Clocks, watches, seasons, etc. = TIME
Astronauts, aliens, moons, planets, sky, black holes, WHITE SPACE? LOL = SPACE
I am sure you can come up with some other VERY creative ideas! You do not need to have BOTH Time and Space on your creations. One or the other is great.
