ideas for all those wooden blocks from unmounted stamps? i have dozens and theres seems like there should be a awesome and creative use for them, but not so much in my brain. so help before they become fire pit fodder.
i have thought about various size mixed media collage things (one for every person in the free world!) i just wonder realistically if i will get to them. i like that idea best....or firewood.
I've got a bag of them too. I need useful ideas, not dust collecting decorated blocks. I don't decorate in wood cutouts or block. Shabby Chic Country is not my style.
Now, if they vacuum or do the laundry that would be helpful, lol.
I would use them to hold foam pads for the Tim Holtz Distress Ink Pads. That way you don't need to buy the holder. I used heavy duty velcro (you can just buy a roll off the stiff part) and stick it on the block, then the soft pads stick to the velcro. Instant blending blocks.....
i will definately use a couple to hold the pads for distress ink. i could probably do one collage. my house is not shabby chic, just shabby! no really, its more mission style. sturdy. i have a son thats 6'4" and 200 pounds of dogs, so we do sturdy. no end tables with cute things. those smash to the floor with wipe happy swipe of a tail.
Would you be interested in sending me six blocks 3" by 1 1/4" so I could mount a clear set ordered in error onto wood blocks? I will gladly pay for shipping in a priority envie plus whatever is fair. Jeanne Lehrman

: ) that is so true! Yeah, not shappy chic here either, so that comment made me smile. :p I can't find a pic of my very favorite thing with the wood blocks--maybe will have to take another.
There's lots of great ideas on Pinterest for blocky things, too, even painting them all a bunch of colors and mounting to the wall for some awesome modern art. If you had enough you could do a mosaic effect, even.

Did you all actually REMOVE the stickers and foam from the blocks before burning them or giving them away?? I just unmounted all my wood-mounted stamps and was too lazy to do that (remove the stickers and foam) so I just threw most of them away. It was hard enough removing only the rubber!! I gave two bags worth of the sticky, dirty blocks to a hoarder co-worker.
Too late for me now, but was still curious never-the-less. I did also have a bag of never-been-mounted wooden blocks, and gave those away to fellow stampers.
the bow makers great! and the art work is so cute. i guess i have to keep them. thank god for rubbermaid.
when i removed my stamps i heated them in the microwave and removed foam and all. if it had a sticker i removed that and stuck it to the foam and used a dab here and there of tack it over and over so it would stick to blocks. they came right off the wood easy. it never occured to me to remove just the rubber. is that harder?

The first half of my stamps that I unmounted I did not remove foam or stickers. The remainder I did remove the stickers but not the foam. The stickers went on my index sheet (cardstock). Instead of stamping the image in black, the stickers are usually colorful, which is kind of cool. And it has the name and mfgr of the stamp right there too.

if my kids were little they would have made good use out of them. i should ask sunday school it they want them. they could clean the stick off of them---not me. goo be gone and a putty knife and then soap and water, not technical but time consuming.
i have ideas enough for 20 women, but i dont have time enough. thank goodness i do not watch tv and i can get by on very little sleep!
You could also freecycle the blocks - freecycle is an online group where people post and give things away for free. Things that are still useable. It's a way to keep things out of the landfills. I like the idea of donating to a school. Wood blocks would make a nice art supply
Ine last idea - My mom had made a nativity scene by decoupaging old Christmas card images onto them. Each block was a different person - angels, sheep wisemen etc Played a lot with that as a child. Very sturdy.

Hello fellow stampaholics!
I asked my husband to make me a little BOW MAKER w/one of my larger blocks! All you need is a block that is 2 3/4" x 3 3/4" or larger and then drill some holes approximately 1/2" apart, purchase a 1/4" dowel, cut the dowel to 2" lengths and VIOLA! You now have your own Bow maker!
There is a utube video that shows this style of bow maker. I need to make 3 posts in order to leave a link. Let me see if I can do that now.

This little Bow Maker my husband made for me out of the old wood blocks is better that that big Crafter's Companion, it's much more flexible as far as the sizes of the bows. I prefer very small bows for my cards.
This is my second post. I need to leave 3 before I can leave the link for you see see the utube video link showing you what you need to know how to make the Bow Maker and how to use it.

That's what I've started doing with some of mine.

So many good ideas! I live in the Houston (TX) area. Near downtown is the neatest resale shop! It's mostly 'stuff' for art projects! Its very organized! I think it's wonderful! Dear Hubby thinks its a lot of junk! I'll probably take mine there. I've unmounted half of my @200 SU sets, so I have a lot! (mine just have sticky stuff on them. I reused the labels and kept the foam on the rubber.)

Um, I don't know if it is harder. I think for me it was easier. It WAS easy to remove the foam along with the rubber, but nervewracking to remove the stickers. I did maybe about four sets WITH the foam, and it took me a lot longer - my focus wasn't on getting the wood blocks beautifully clean; it was on getting the stickers cleanly off the wood and onto the foam. But I decided to only remove the rubber because this way I could store seven layers in one clamshell container instead of just four layers (of foam and rubber). My decision wasn't really based on how easy or time-consuming it was, it was based more on storage space. (I think in the near future I might have to move, and I want to be prepared enough to be able to move into a tiny trailer or a tiny studio if necessary. If I can find a house, all the better, but I don't want my choices to be limited by the size of my belongings.)

Good idea. Maybe I should've tried harder to remove the stickers! I went ahead and stamped all those images!! I wrote down all the information next to the stamped image. My hands and fingers were sore from all that stamping and peeling!

ok, you HAVE to share the name of this fabulous store! I will be in Houston next Saturday!!! We live east of Houston, but go there about once a month - I have to find this place, LOL!!
I hotglued them together to make a box to hold my ATG and Silent Setter. After I glued them together, I painted the whole thing black. Since my blocks were'nt all the same size, some stick up higher than others; not perfect at all, but functional.
I made a box with some years ago that was perfectly even though, and painted it hunter green and used it to hold remotes for a while.

Yes, keep in mind that my blocks were not the same size (lots of odd sizes), so I call it an abstract piece! LOL! The one I had years ago was square and even and looked "much" better. I got in a decluttering mood and got rid of it though a long time ago. Although, this one is wonky, it is functional.
Thank you so much! Here is another thing I made with leftover blocks and some cd inserts (removed from cd cases). I hate to throw something out if I KNOW I have a use for it. Can't keep everything though, but like repurposing stuff. It's ugly, but just what I needed to hold my chalk inks and larger ink pads.
I LOVE my hot glue got; just hate it when I burn my fingers. LOL> :p
The blocks are on the bottom; makes a good sturdy base.
I recently made a washi tape holder from mine. I cut a 4x3 block in half giving me 2 2x3 blocks and had hubby drill a hole in the center for a wooden dowel. I pounded in and glued the dowel. Now I store my washi tape on the dowel. I've already filled up one and glad I got him to split the block and make two! I plant to eventually embellish them but the block was one with nice grooves in the sides so it looks pretty ok for now.
I also store rolls of adhesives on a similar holder in case that sparks ideas for anyone. It would also work for ribbon or if you used a thin dowel, for thread spools with whatever you choose to spool on them.

At Stampin' Up!'s Convention this year, I received a GREAT idea for wood blocks! Too bad I'm a wood mount girl so I don't have extras lying around. I met a great gal who was a brand-new Stampin' Up! board member at Make and Takes back at Convention 2009. She'd never stamped before so my friend and I were helping her learn and every year since, we both look for each other. She always has a cute gifty for me and this year it was 2 small wood mount blocks, covered in the Cotton Ribbon and tied together with Seam Binding. The two largest faces of the blocks were together and she was making me guess what it was. I had no idea! But it is a stand for a card! So super cute, simple and great for people who want to showcase individual cards on a shelf, at a stamping class, or for taking pictures of your creations!
