Default JUN12VSNMINI4 ~ Fri May 25th ~ A Ghostly Journey

Title: A Ghostly Journey
Hostess: ckbythesea (Carole)
Keyword: JUN12VSNMINI4
Day/Date: Friday, May 25th
Time: 6:00pm EDT

Have you ever wanted to visit a ghost town? My sis-in-law and her family made a journey through some western states with some of their destinations being nowhere . . . or more specifically a place that used to be "somewhere" but is no more. Ghost towns! Abandoned sites that degrade and nearly disappear as the years pass. Who lived there? Why did they leave? Did the Brady Bunch ever visit? Sorry, couldn't resist that one!

Are there any sites considered ghost towns near you? Have a look HERE . I would love to make a similar journey, but with the price of gasoline, we might have to be a little more practical.

So now, on to my challenge. My challenge is to create a card using the Ghosting Technique, also known as Versamark Resist. It is pretty simple, but very satisfying! You can go with subtle colors or bold. You can use a brayer, sponge, or blending tool to apply your colored ink. Allowing the Versamark some time to dry gives a less subtle effect when you apply your color ink over the Versamark ink.

Beate's tutorial in the Resources section is HERE

VIEW THE GALLERY FOR THIS CHALLENGE HERE

UPLOADING INSTRUCTIONS:

1. All VSN creations for this challenge must be uploaded by 6:00 PM EDT on Friday June 1st.
2. You have 45 minutes to complete the challenge.
3. Please remember to put in the correct keyword, JUN12VSNMINI4 , when uploading your image. Copying and pasting the challenge keyword is recommended to avoid typos.
4. It is also highly recommended that you post a link to your creation in this chat thread to be sure your project is seen.
5. HAVE FUN!

Hello all! Grab your glossy card stock, Versamark pad, and a sponge or brayer, and let's do some Ghosting!

This looks like a fun technique. Can't try it right now, but will definitely give it a try ASAP. Thanks for the challenge Carole

Here's mine:

JUN12VSNMINI4 Enjoy the Journey by tessaduck - Cards and Paper Crafts at Splitcoaststampers

I used a negative mask for the background. Great fun!

Have a wonderful Memorial Day weekend, all, and remember those who have served and left us...

I would do the challenge, but I am at my daughters, several states away from my craft room! My granddaughter and I thought we might try anyway, but we have no versamark ink here. They have limited supplies here. So, guess I will do it when I get home aftter the 30th. We still have till next Friday, right?

Check out this one:

Ghost Wildflowers by tessaduck - Cards and Paper Crafts at Splitcoaststampers

and this one:

WT376 Green Leaves by tessaduck - Cards and Paper Crafts at Splitcoaststampers

Both use negative masks. The WT challenge leaves card was the most fun, with three negative masks by the time I was done with the images. No ghosting, though.

and the CAS dt card didn't make the semi-finals.

I feel so bad...I've been "off-site" for quite a while (life does tend to get in the way of stamping sometimes...) & didn't realize that the Mini VSN was going on!! But I hope to play catch-up this weekend, as I really don't have any big plans to do anything or go anywhere...

And I have marked my calendar for June 15-16 so I don't miss the BIG VSN!! Can't wait!!

Guess I'd better get in some practice!! :-)

Good evening ladies! Although I was out for the night I was able to download my card "on the run" (so to speak) so it's in the gallery.

We did things a little differently this time. Instead of one Mini VSN with several challenges, we have had one challenge each Friday in May. You have a week to post your card to the gallery, so I hope you get to try out this challenge.

Basically the same recipe as the card I'd made for your challenge. Just a different silhouette. Thanks for your comments on the cards, btw!

Your card is lovely Gwen! Are you going to upload to your SCS gallery with the keyword so it is in the challenge gallery? Love the colors you used. Thanks for joining the challenge.

It is a lovely card, thanks for playing along this weekend!

I try not to do much to my card photos as far as editing, but there is one button in Windows Live Photo Gallery software that straightens the photo with a single touch; it works really well for pictures of cards. Then I crop if needed.

Thanks for the tip, Carole! I'll give it a try. Right now I'm using software from HP--Image Zone--that came with my printer. It's a VERY simple program, easy to crop & resize for the website upload, but doesn't have much else for "bells & whistles". I might have to graduate to a better program...

I really need to find the right light to take the photos to start with! Seems like natural light works the best, but when I'm making cards at night, that doesn't work! :-) Oh well...

Yes, natural light is definitely the best, but doesn't work for nighttime uploads. ;)

Here's another effort: I tried ghosting with yellow. What was I thinking??! You can just see it in real life, and barely on the photo. It kind of gets mixed in with the over-stamping and bg stamps.

Works for me, I can see the Ghosting and the subtlety is just right with the other inks.

I made this card for the challenge, but unfortunately I did not have time to post it before the deadline. Thanks for introducing me to the ghosting technique - it is lovelier than I thought!
