Default What do you look for in a blog post?

Just curious...

I have had a blog for a few years now and often go back and forth about how much info to put in my post. Are most readers just looking at the pic, maybe skimming over the info? Or do you want to see the notes about how a project came together?

Lately I've been picking a detail to review and going with that. I post the colors used, stamps, etc at the bottom of the post for anyone who is interested. I suppose what I am wondering is if I am providing enough value to readers?

The picture is what of course catches my eye, and if it has already done that, then I always check to see how it came together. I love getting that info . Tutorials are even better.

When I'm interested in the project someone has posted I'd sure like to see a COMPLETE and detailed list of materials used.

I have to say there is nothing I find more annoying than seeing a lovely project and then finding the person hasn't listed the name of the stamp or something else important. I have to say I love your blog layout very clean and easy on the eye

Thank you

regarding including tutorials:
Although I do mix in some how-to posts, I cannot do that for all posts. I give detailed instruction to my customers in the classes they pay to attend and it would be disrespectful to them to post everything on-line for free.

I suppose I should have worded it as: do you want a complete list of products used? or do most people just look at a project, get what they want from it and ignore the text?

For me I never know what to put when I write my post so sometimes I just talk about what's going on but as of right now I listed what products I used on my cards but it's whatever the mood strikes..especially because I use a lot of retired products but since I get no comments I just figure everyone just looks at the card LOL!

What do I look for in a blog post? Most of the time it's a nice clear photo, and I usually can tell what is going on from that. I do like the products used to be mentioned somewhere just in case I want to find out more, especially if its a product based post.

As for the posts I write on my own blog I go for a different angle. I write to explain a process I go thru with some aspect of my creation in responce to someone saying they would like to sit beside me to see how I create, lol. So I took that idea to my blog and it seems to work for my readers. I use a variety of products, so I mention things that I feel will be informative.

Good luck with finding a blogging style that suits you and your readers.

What a *GREAT* blog, Adriana! I'm definitely bookmarking it!

Great pictures (*TERRIFIC* projects), just enough text, good info to use in the future. Thank you for starting this thread -- it's been a question on my mind, too!

Warmly,

What a great thread. So many fabulous blogs here.

Good pictures are definitely a must. I like to see the list of products, especially the name of the stamp and what color medium they used. If they used Copic markers, I like to know what markers they used. I like to hear the story behind the card because I enjoy getting to know the blogger. But, truthfully, I mostly just look at the pictures. I guess blog surfing is a little like the men looking at Playboy. Sure, they say they read the articles, but we know what they really look at. ;-)

I have a formula I follow. I start with a quote. Then show pictures of the card and, if there's an interesting story, the story behind the card. Then, I show the "ingredients." I don't really know if that's what my readers want, but it just works with my style.

Thanks for starting this thread.

Great thread! I struggle with witting on my blog as well, so I have very short descriptions. Now after reading this thread I definitively want to give more info on my posts!

Thank you!

Thank you ladies for the info.
(Thank you Sara for your kind words! The background I had is a freebie one I found by googling to find free blogger backgrounds.)

Stickups: the playboy analogy is perfect, lol. I think most demonstrators and experienced stampers just look at the photos; but, I don't want to neglect newer crafters either.

I'll find the balance eventually. For now, I just need to stamp. Vacation is great, but I've been neglecting my paper and goodies way too much!

I like your blog and your work. Just subscribed to it in Google Reader. :-)

Besides having an awesome blog, you passed my key test which is that the pictures have to be included in the feed that goes into Google Reader. That's one of my pet peeves, when people don't have that, so most times I won't subscribe if I can't see the pictures.
