Just a quick question...I seem to be overflowing with flowers here lately. Between those I have made and those I have ordered from Etsy, Wild Orchard Crafts, ect., I am running out of room! Where and how exactly do all of you store these?? Some of them are quite delicate while some are less likely to smush up...any suggestions?
Debra
When I first started paper-crafting, I bought oodles of those plain paper Prima flowers that came in the jars. I have those sorted by color in small jars, even thought I don't really use them anymore. I do have an assortment of other flowers that I do use - Wild Orchid Crafts flowers, crocheted flowers, etc., and I keep those sorted out in little baggies and put into a drawer labeled Flowers in my craft room.
I have mine in Mason jars. All sizes. I gathered the jars from garage sales and thrift stores. My plan was to make cloth toppers for them but that hasnt happened yet but they still look cute on top of my little cabinet. I try to get the large mouth jars so my hand fits in it but those are not easy to find.
Mine or sorted by color, in quart-size zip style baggies. I rarely use them because the colors never seem to be quite right. Once they are gone, I'll probably buy only white and color them myself.
Great ideas. I really love the idea of the clamshell cases! I can see me using the yars for my pretty ones also. I am also like Melissa...my last order from Wild Orchard Crafts was all white!
I have some in the little jars like above. I got them at Ikea for cheap. The others are stored in various glass jars that I've saved from Jellies, Salsa etc. I love Trader Joe's glass jars for storage. I have lots of colors and prima flowers in the tall thin jars as well but don't use them much. I think they look pretty in the jars though and they've become more of a decoration, lol. I prefer to make my own now using punches or my Cricut. I also color white paper flowers with my Copics.
I have tons of drawers!! I seem to lack organizational skills!! What I need to do is have one of those TV shows come in and organize my scrap/stamp room!! Seems like I am not making good use of the space that I have.
I have my flat flowers like the prima got flowers and that ilk in floss boxes you know the kind you use for storing your cross stitch threads in. Sorted by colour. I have two of them for this purpose.
My 3d ones I have Sistema Klippo containers. these stack really well and I have one for hand made seam binding flowers, one for pearl sprays and mulberry paper flowers and one with my hand made flowers in it. I find that as long as I do not cram to much into the boxes and treat them reasonably well the flowers do not get damaged
I store some of mine in bath salts jars that I bought at Walmart. They no longer carry the bath salts, go figure, but I have a group of jars with violet lids and sort some by color. Bonus they are scented with lavender scent as a result. I got two sets of the tilted jars from ABC distributing on little racks which I also use and wide mouth canning jars for some also.Buying white and coloring them is a good idea also.
I love Dickinson's Lemon Curd - for two reasons. One, simply that I love Dickinson's Lemon Curd; and two because it comes in lovely little square jars with black lids. I've sorted my flowers by color and store them in those jars. I have a couple jars specific for those little mini flowers. I store the jars in a drawer and I glue a "sample" flower on the lid so I know what's in the jar when I pull open the drawer. Because the jars are square, there's no wasted space between them in the drawer.
Another thing I'm saving to use are those jars that fruit comes in with the little handles on the sides. They are a nice shape and if I would cover the lids, in my spare time<G> they would make a good display.
I use clear acrylic cases that hold collectible hockey pucks in. They are approx. 4x4 square and about 2in high. They have a lid that slide down on the sides so you don't have to worry about the lid coming off. I sort them by colour and type and the cases stack very well. My dear hubby collects autographed hockey pucks so I have a seemingly endless supply of cases as he keeps his pucks in cases on the wall.

What a GREAT idea!!! I love repurposed containers.
not very well!!
they are currently sorted by colour and make into little crocodile bags in a drawer but i think i'd prefer them in jars or something similar where i could see them so i'd remember to use them more often!

I use the same clear containers from fruit for storage, like the ones that have strawberries and such.

I don't have that many so mine are sorted by type. Silk in a photo storage box from Michaels (half my stuff lives in those boxes) and paper in a flat tin. Both open wide so are easy to look through. I also have a few up on my wall in the thin plastic envelope style packaging, jar or tin they came in because they look pretty.
And when I buy a stem to pull apart, they stay on the stem as decor until I pick it apart so much it looks yucky, then they hit the photo box. If I had more shelf space, id store them by colour in mini versions of the candy jar someone posted above. My buttons from PTI are stored that way and look so pretty.
If anyone is looking for jars wide enough to fit your hand in, Ikea has them in various heights. I use them for my ribbon bundles which are fastened with white twist ties (takes up less space than clothespins but still looks nice). They have the glass lid, spring loaded hingy type closures. And they have the mini candy jars too and super cheap.

My flowers were getting out of hand so I bought a couple of these units and sorted them by roses, cherry blossoms, flat flowers, and small flowers. So far, it seems to work for me.
for awhile I bought bath salts in containers with purple tops. They no longer carry it go figure but I had enough saved to store the flowers in by color. they also get a lavender smell as well. I have one more left to fill then it's on to something else but these make a nice display all being the same size and color.
