I watched the you tube video last night and must say I was very unimpressed. I'm a gadget junkie, and am always on the lookout for more tools. But honestly I didn't see much use for this one. A sharp pair of scissors and a dab of fray-check on the ends of the ribbons would do nicely. But even at that, I guess my ribbon has never frayed on the ends to the point where I think "sealing" is necessary.
Now, if they would come out with a product that could produce small cut-outs (small hearts,flower,stars.....) THAT I would buy.

I must be missing something about this tool because I feel EXACTLY the same way!
I don't want to use any tools that require batteries. And I'm just not that picky about my ribbon edges. Most of the time I don't even use the Fray-Check.
Maybe one day I'll change my mind, but for now I see this as just another "Gimmick Gadget".
for paper crafting I wouldn't likely use it very often, but for making my daughters hair bows I'd use it all the time, heat sealing is a must or they fray like crazy. I'm still thinking of picking one up.
And I've got punches, dies AND a Cricut. But the thought of trying to manipulate a narrow piece of ribbon through any of those tools........ I'll pass.

I was very excited about this tool when I first heard about it, but after I got to play with it, i was dissapointed. I work for a friend who has a scrapbooking business so I got to demo the tool at a weekend retreat. I broke one, fairly easily. I didn't mean to, but the ribbon got stuck to the wire and i pulled a little to hard and the wire came right off. Then we had two people who bought them have the same problem. I think if anybody has an old seal a meal, i would probably do the same thing, just not battery powered.
It looks like a miniature version of those vacuum sealers for plastic bags for food storage. I have one of the vacuum things that I never use anymore. Maybe I'll have to see if it works on some ribbon and move it into the craft room.
It is the same principal as seal-a-meal or whatever they call the vacum sealers now, i would thnk it would work the same way. Its just not battery operated.
