I love how you can resize the image to your needs. Check out this cute card by Paula. I just love how she enlarged the image and used one of the strawberries as an embellishment.
I also really like not having to store yet another stamp. I print a whole sheet of one image and keep it in a box with my images that I received in image swaps.
My dear husband is the designer of my own digital stamp line (see link in my signature). I also like the digi-images by CC designs, available at "all that scraps".

I honestly have never used them.....I think I need to have the stamp in my hand. I also don't do image swaps because of that. But that's just my personal perference.

My dh thinks the whole idea of digi stamps is crazy. I downloaded one and showed it to him and his comment was 'it's clipart, what's this digi stamp stuff?'. I kinda like the idea, but the ink smears when I try to color them with either my Bics or prismas so I haven't tried any others.

Oh, I LOVE digi stamps... I haven't had them smear (I've used Copics to color and Colored Pencils with Gamsol). I love that I can resize them (and thanks Ellie for the compliment and the link! ), I don't have to have extra storage anywhere other than my hd! They are typically cheaper to purchase than actual "rubber" stamps and for those that say they are "clip art"...I have yet to find any clip art cuter than those digi stamps I have purchased...I am paying the artist for a rendition that I can resize and use time and time again....so my fav's in order:
Digital Stamp Oasis
CC Designs
Squiggle Fly
Greeting Farm

Oh no, I'm not saying they are clipart, that is my dh, the software developer saying they are clipart. He has been around the computer a little toooooo long I think. I think some of the images I have seen are way cuter than a lot of stamps. The creative process that goes into them is no less than into something that is rendered into acrylic or rubber. It's just getting dh to agree with that.

I guess it would be considered digital...I bought a CD off Ebay from a company that used to sell stamps but no longer does. They have some hilarious images. I don't use it all the time, but occasionally I need a theme that I don't have and these work perfect. I THINK there wereabout 150 images on the CD.

I did buy one online, and I will say the quality was kind of poor...won't say who I bought it from but I am glad I only spent about $1

Also, check out http://littlepapershop.com/index.php. They have some cute images they just released. Anyone else have some suggestions. I've ordered from Squigglefly.com (super cute), and there are AT LEAST two sets I'm going to have to get from ATS.

I use digi stamps and have just bought an Epsom printer as I was told their durabright inks are waterproof and I can breakout the watercolour pencils again! I was having to useing my pastel pancils or my pencils with sansodor and only using watercolours on rubber stamps.

I also print a whole sheet off at a time and have them stored ready when I need another image.

I shop with pinkpetticoat and the greeting farm for my digi stamps but will check out the other links, thanks!

What I like more than digistamps are the patterned paper backgrounds that you can buy and print out. I got some from Gina K's site and love them!

I really like digi stamps. If you check my blog, most of my projects using InStyle Stamps are digital images. They print off great, and I like having the option of resizing them to fit the project I'm working on. I color mine with copic markers, and haven't had a problem with the inks smearing.

I use digi stamps. I don't like them nearly as much as rubber, but they work just fine for me. I am also one of those that likes to have the rubber in my hand, but that doesn't stop me from buying digi stamps.

I'm kind of with your dh, it's still clip art that you have to color--even if it's cute and fancy clip art. I don't see why it is called a "stamp" at all, because it isn't. It's fine if you like it, but I don't think it should be called a stamp, just a pet peeve of mine
On the other hand, I'm not really into the digital scrappin' either. I think they are creative and beautiful, but again I think it is more like graphic design. Cool if you like that, but I like the paper in my hands.

I've skimmed down the thread and just wonder how they are different from clip art line drawings though. If you can resize them and "color" them in with a Paint or Photoshop type program, how are they "stamps" any longer? I'm not saying that they aren't cute, a good idea, a good value, easy to store etc. I use clip art a lot, but don't think of it as a replacement for stamps. Just one example, I can't use digistamps to stamp on velvet because you have to have a physical stamp to impress the fabric. Maybe it's just a marketing twist? ;)

I actually posted about that on my blog last week. What type of ink are you using? One thing I have found through my own experience is that you will want to use a photo ink, as opposed to the basic black. Black is designed for text, photo ink has a more archival quality and better resists smearing.

I just bring my cardstock from home, and print them here ;)

I have never used clip art before, I heard the term, but never giving it a thought. For me, clip art are images that you can use to to create your card, letterhead or whatever you make on the computer , and not print out and actually paper craft with it. The digital stamps are made with a paper crafter and/or stamper in mind who likes to use line art images to color. While they are not an actual stamp, the printed image resembles a stamp very much, and yes, you could if you wanted to make a card with it just on the computer. In today's world everything seems to go digital. (for example digital signature when you file your taxes online- you don't actually sign it).

Digital stamps to me, ARE different than clip art...and I've used clipart a BUNCH designing webpages, newsletters, yadda, yadda, yadda... MOST of the clip is ALREADY colored and it's a pain in the hiney to change colors via software (it also depends on the quality of the clip art also)... I also have not yet found an image I want to paper craft with that is clip art (maybe they are out there and I haven't found one yet?). I imagine "techinically" they are the same or extremely similar...and yes, you are right that you can't stamp velvet with a digital stamp...however I really don't stamp velvet or fabric all that often (mmm...2X in my 15 years of doing this)...and I really can't beat the price of digital stamps...MUCH MUCH cheaper than real rubber...I do LOVE real rubber too, don't get me wrong, but it's such a nice alternative and easy on my budget!

Great thread - I'm looking forward to checking out some of these links. I love digital! I also love rubber. There are benifits to each for sure. I love that digital can be resized - especially when you're trying to get an image to fit perfectly in a punch! I've had no problems with the ink smearing with Copics or Prismapencil/OMS.

Are they clipart? Technically, yes. They're just a computer image. The difference is that most digi-stamps are high resolution, high quality images that can be resized without loss of quality. Clipart is usually a very small file size - and by the time you size it large enough to color it in the quality of the lines are smudgy (most of the time). Just my opinion.

Here's a couple more sites...
- Christine Dark has some gorgeous images here
- Two Scoops has some - you can get their march freebie here

Yes Jami, you are so right, have you ever copied a piece of clip art to ue and then imported into one of you programs for resize, you will usually find it is really pixelated!! So these are not really any good for the types of project we use them for.
I love to be able to use both digi stamps and the traditional kind. I do love digis for the price and the immediate use!!

Here is a site that I have been working on!! I would love to know what you think about the images.

I have to totally agree with Nora here....I think that digital stamps are just a fancy way of presenting clipart...a great marketing twist really when all is said and done. Yes, not the normal clipart we are used to seeing in the past but clipart all the same (I agree with the Hubby's comments!)....just with a new name.

In the absence of ink and rubber (insert acrylic or polymer here as well), I cannot see that they can be "stamps"!

Anyway, I reckon just printing off stuff takes me back to the early card making programmes that came with my computer. It would take all the fun out of deciding on techniques and inks to use etc.

Perhaps I am a purist, but I will not be buying any digital /clipart stuff. I want to hold the stamp, stamp the stamp etc,

Each to their own. These are just my own personal thoughts.

Cheers,

I personally have not used digi-stamps (yet) but I don't see any difference in them and getting images sent to you from Wish-RAK or participating in an image swap. I have come across a number of cards on blogs lately and would have never known they were digi-stamps if they had not mentioned it in the post. I do think the biggest plus for digi-stamps is the fact that you can re-size them, very convenient.

I like coloring the image so it doesn't matter to me if I printed the image from my computer or stamped it on the paper. I'll try a few, free ones for now.

I've been "told" that if you heat set the ink from the printer it shouldn't smudge...but I have yet to try it. Maybe that'll be one task for the day so I can "report" on the truth! I'll let you know

I didn't think I'd like them, but I tried some free downloads, and now I'm hooked! Re-sizing and flipping the images is a real plus!
You color them just as you would any other stamp imge, using your favorite coloring medium.

He has a very whimsical style. I'm hoping he develops a line for sale.

Here's a link to a card I did using one of his images:

I have just changed out my site and it now has instant downloads, I'd love if you stop by and tell me what you think, any suggestions are always welcome.

I am hoping to put all cards used on my images into a slideshow, so I would love to have your permission to add your cards.
Thanks
Wendy

As someone else said, when you get right down to it, they're basically clip art, in black & white form, and in a high enough resolution that you can resize to maintain the quality of the image when you print it out.

They have (technique) limitations, as you described, i.e. velvet embossing, etc. And, some printer inks smear with certain coloring mediums.

Of course, rubber (or physical) stamps are limited in that you cannot physically resize them.

If you like and use clip art for your paper crafting projects, you would probably enjoy digi-stamps.

I'm not saying that they aren't cute, a good idea, a good value, easy to store etc. I use clip art a lot, but don't think of it as a replacement for stamps. Just one example, I can't use digistamps to stamp on velvet because you have to have a physical stamp to impress the fabric. Maybe it's just a marketing twist? ;)
I personally don't use clip art/digi-stamps myself, as I prefer real (physical) stamps, but, yes, I guess one could view it as a marketing twist.

I think your site is great. I'll definitely be back for the little Sheriff, my husband is one and it would make a cute birthday card for him next month.

I also really like not having to store yet another stamp. I print a whole sheet of one image and keep it in a box with my images that I received in image swaps.
The reasons Elli mentioned here are why I like them too PLUS we live in a condo and there is only so much space to store stuff.
I do love my stamps though too.
