Default Dies from Marianne Designs

Anyone know if there is a U.S. vendor for these dies? Love the butterfly die!

That's them! They are so intricate looking. No butterfly right now, but there are some other ones that really interest me. Where did you find the shipping info, or did you know it from a previous order?

Put an item in your cart then view it. You get a choice of domestic USPS or international USPS. Just seemed high. *shrug*

But those stencils are incredible! And appear to be much cheaper than Spellbinders.

Thanks! I read somewhere that they will work in the Cuttlebug or Wizard.

not a butterfly - but this stuff looks like so much fun!
grrrr. I've not even been through half of the stuff yet.

Looks like they'll work in any of our die cut machines. I'm a bug user, too.

Because of some Patent infringement issue with Spellbinders or Sizzix (can't remember which), they cannot be sold in the US. Hayley-Jo at Crop Stop tried to get them for me, but was told that she cannot sell them here. I don't know what the rules are as far as their being shipped to the US from Europe.

Happy Cutting!!

OMG! They are beautiful I can't see where the patent infringement would be. We don't have anything so intricate as those. Now I see why some of the crafters from other countries have such different designs than we have.

you can occasionally find them on ebay, too. They are gorgeous, huh! Have you seen the Nellie Snellen dies?

Simply Special Crafts has some too. I just bought 2 Marianne corner dies (Ebay) and they were shipped the same day. I got them a day later. Haven't used them yet though.

Smile Try Bunny Zoe's - she has heaps of Marianne dies

Although I am in Australia, I have bought some of these Marianne dies (as well as other products) from Bunny Zoe's crafts in the UK. She does ship worldwide and I think her prices are very, very reasonable for shipping, and it is very easy to work out how much the shipping is with this chart on her website. And you can change the currency to US dollars on the far LHS about half way down the page

Here is a link to the Marianne dies (the butterflies are on the 2nd page) - there are about 33 different dies there - have fun looking (I want to get all of them! :lol

I don't know for sure, but I think I read somewhere that Spellbinders has a patent on open metal dies (ones that you can see through) like the Nesties and that's why My Favorite Things, Papertrey, and Tim Holtz's dies have to be solid metal (you can't see through them).

Maybe since the dies mentioned above are the open kind, they can't be imported under this same argument? If they were just stencils and didn't cut, I bet that we could get them here.

Again, I'm no patent lawyer - just what I read elsewhere.

I don't know if that makes sense to me. Some places overseas sell both.

Try Jerri K Jiminez shop, A touch of Grace. I don't think she stocks Marianne dies but she has an amazing selection of similar dies. Her work is out of this world.

Default This makes for interesting reading....

I came across this little article which might shed a bit of light on the Spellbinders patent. And here is an update to the first article.

Sounds to me like they do not think competition would be good for them. Hmmm...don't they have trust in their own product I wonder.

I saw some of the dies at a stamp show in Novi, MI, this past weekend.
SweetStamps.com LLC

If you have any questions about whether they'll work in your die cutting machine, ask Stacey. She's a wealth of information.

I don't think that it has anything to do with not trusting their own products. I think it has to do with protecting a great idea. If they came up with the idea of the dies, or more specifically a way to make them better (not having it be a solid metal die, being able to see through the die to see where you are lining it up, etc.) then why shouldn't they be able to protect that great idea from other companies making money off of it? That's what patents are for - protecting a great idea - not because you don't "trust" your own product.

Cuddly Buddly here in the UK - Scotland to be precise - stock Marianne dies along with loads of other products from Europe. They will ship to USA and are very reasonable, I believe. Here's the link to the Marianne die page: Die Cutting & Embossing Tools < Shop | Cuddly Buddly Crafts

I order from them a lot as they also stock a lot of products from the USA that I find hard to get hold of over here!

I like the look of these dies. Something about the dies looked familiar to me, and sure enough when I went to my LSS (in Australia), there was some of the MD dies. Unfortunately they also told me that the butterfly that I was most interested in has been on back order for six months! I did however get a shop order in for the poinsettia. Can't wait to try them out.

I was frustrated at not being able to see cards made using these lovely dies when I found this blog - Marianne Design Challenge Blog

Very nice!

Glad to be of help! I'm sure you will be pleased with your dies. I put mine through the Cuttlebug with no problems but they cut better if they are sandwiched with the paper on top then the cutting mat on top of that. I also emboss the larger dies even if they don't have embossed areas - it seems to make the edges smoother and can help getting them out of the die. The smaller ones I cut in my old red sizzix with the adaptor plate and the little square adaptors - then I do it the opposite and have the cutting base plate, card then the die with the little square adaptor on top of that. Slide through, press and hey presto - quicker than turning the handle!

They can be fiddly to remove from the die once cut - I have a piece of bluetack (not sure what you call it in USA) which I warm up into a ball in my hand then dab it on the card to help pull it out of the die. I also use a pricking tool but am careful not to scratch the metal. The newer dies are now coming out with little holes that don't cut or emboss but are there so you can push the card out!

have fun with them!

I so do not need to start another addiction but I wanted to comment ...

Annie - can you try a piece of wax paper between the cardstock and die? I've found that with some of my more intricate ones that this trick helps the paper fall out more easily.

thanks for the tip! I also read that rubbing a candle over the die helps too, or a little silicone polish - but make sure it's all polished off or it could mark the cardstock. I find card cuts and comes out better than paper - but the bluetack lifts out the paper very easily. An artist putty rubber also works the same.

Billie..you beat me to it ...I was going to suggest the wax paper..it works so well to get things out of the dies with little or no effort...cant wait til the dies arrive....there are more I want so this is probably only the first order..oops....

I recently placed my order for some of the Marianne Design dies through Cuddly Buddly - they had the most reasonable pricing that I could find.

After reading this thread, I went and found an online store (Australian) who had the butterfly 2 die in stock. It is now waiting down at the post office ready for me to pick up this after noon. I'll give it a run thru tomorrow.

Thanks for bringing these dies to my attention. I hope the OP gets to find some too.

Very nice!
I got the butterfly dies on ebay. They were shipped from England (with shipping no more than items from us stores) and arrived within a week.

I used mine in the cuttlebug with wax paper with no problem. Just used a darning needle to free the several little pieces that stuck.

Here is the link to my first card with the butterfly in my gallery.
