What tool do you use with "Perfect Layers?"

I just received my order of perfect layers. What tool works best to cut with, and where do you purchase it? Thanks so much!

I just use an ordinary x-acto craft knife, available at any store, really. Some people prefer using a rotary cutter, which is a quilting tool available anywhere that sells sewing stuff.

I love my Perfect Layers tool!

I prefer a rotary cutter, I use a mini Fiskars rotary and love it. I find it doesn't get 'caught' in the paper like X-acto knives do. That may just be user error, though.

I just recently purchased the rulers second hand for a very good price and have just been using a generic x-acto knife. It works just fine.

I've tried both the x-acto knife and rotary cutter and my preference is the rotary cutter. For me, the rotary cutter gives a better finish to the cut edge of the paper.

I use an Olfa rotary cutter. Make sure to use a self healing mat. I start off the paper which I find works better for some unknown reason.

Cannot scrap without my Perfect Layers! Got them from QVC years ago.

I have only just started using the perfect layers tools too - I'm really happy with them so far. I'm using a Olfa deluxe rotary cutter 45mm - it's easy to use and is giving a nice clean cut edge.

I've used both craft knife and rotary cutter. I like the finished edge of the rotary cutter best and because of the larger area of blade aganist the layer tool I seem to have better control with the rotary cutter. Joann and Hobby Lobby carry both tools.

You would also like their Perfect Squares in both card making and scrapbooking. I also like playing with the airbrush tool which is a simple hand squeeze.

Oooo, I haven't thought about a rotary cutter, and I have a couple. I will definitely try that. I use the Fiskars Fingernail Detail Knife - great control.

My perfect---PERFECT layering tool is my ORANGE FISKARS TRIMMER...the fine silver wire shows you -->the crafter EXACTLY where to make the cut with exact precision. This is usually my very first recommendation when I am teaching a class--!

I just got my Perfect Layers in the mail (and Perfect Square). I am hoping to find they are as incredible as you all say they are. I have yet to find a cutter that I can actually line up to make straight cuts (I'm obviously challenged) so I am hoping this is my fail-safe answer!

Question: I have heard peopld suggest a glass mat for cutting. Any opinions on that?

I have a question for those of you who use a rotary cutter on paper. Paper is harder on blades than fabric is, so I am wondering how often do you have to change the rotary blade? Do you use ragged edges as your signal to change it?

When using a rotary cutter I have more control if I stand during cutting.
Not heard of a glass mat, will have to check that out.

I just got mine and have been using that little Fiskars knife thing that fits over your finger and I love it. I have yet to use a rotary cutter, will have to check them out. But I have to say I am loving this tool! It's brilliant.

Of course I am using it for A2 cards, not scrap booking, so I don't have to make very long cuts. Maybe that's why the little finger knife is adequate.

Really, though, what a great tool.

I got my first Perfect Layers tool from Stampin' Up! and just when I figured it out they stopped carrying it. Now, I almost never create a card without it. Here's a little tip and tutorial I wrote about it. Maybe it will help.

It sounds like your Perfect Layers tool is shifting when you cut. Make sure you're holding the tool down firmly. Try curling the paper underneath it to grab the "catch lip" better. I've tried the rotary cutter with it (thanks to advice here), and I get a much cleaner cut. Also, if your cut isn't perfectly clean (sometimes that happens for me at the corners), you can run an emery board or sandpaper across the edges to clean it up.

I just got my second set of them. I "loaned" the first set and never got them back. Can't remember who it was. I used the craft knife when I had them. I like the idea of the rotary cutter. Just purchased the mini one at my local craft store with a coupon. It came with a mat and a ruler. Can't wait to use them again.
