Welcome Mel! I would never use a religious sentiment. I would use the "thinking of you" or "sharing in your sorrow" type of sentiment.

I recall reading or hearing someone gleefully announcing that they always send Christmas cards to Jewish friends. Makes me wonder how close they are to these friends.
