Sunday, April 1st 4PM Take the Leap: The Math Behind Leap Year
Title: The Math behind Leap Year
Hostess: Joyce (Ashjoy)
Keyword: LeapVSBN10
Day/Date: Sunday, April 1, 2012
Time: 4pm
My challenge: A leap year (or intercalary year) is a year containing one or more extra days (or, in case of lunisolar calendars, an extra month) in order to keep the calendar year synchronized with the astronomical or seasonal year. For example, February would have 29 days in a leap year instead of the usual 28. Seasons and astronomical events do not repeat at an exact number of full days, so a calendar which had the same number of days in each year would over time drift with respect to the event it was supposed to track. By occasionally inserting (or intercalating) an additional day or month into the year, the drift can be corrected. A year which is not a leap year is called a common year. Source: Wikipedia
Thirty days hath September,
April, June, and November;
All the rest have thirty-one,
Excepting February alone,
And that has twenty-eight days clear,
And twenty-nine in each leap year.

What Years Are Leap Years? How to Calculate Leap Years
It takes the earth approximately 365.2422 days to go around the sun. The normal calendar year is only 365 days.
The extra fraction of a day adds up over the time.
After four years we would have 1460.9688 days. Four calendar years adds up to 1460 days (365 x 4).
The .9688 is very close to a full day, so we round up.
Every 4 years we add an extra day in February. Consequently leap years are always divisible by 4.
3-use 3 flowers
6- use six patterned papers
5- use 5 buttons
Now that each day of the common year is covered we still need to pick up that leap year day.
For every fourth year that is a leap year lets add 4 of something to your page. you choose, just let us know what it is.
4- your choice

Hi! I am here! I just got something uploaded for last night's last challenge, so now I can play this one! This sounds fun!
Not sure why there are two; hope I am in the right one!

Love your Ipod top played list. What a cool thing to scrap!
Since this is for 6 patterned papers, I immediately thought in little granddaughter direction, because I have all these pinks and purples in patterned paper. I have lots of it all over my craft area!

I just have boys so I don't get to do girly very often. This might be a fun challenge to mix it up a little!

I'm getting things packed up to hit the road for the week. Actually I think we decided I would stay home and get some things done, and maybe meet up with dh tomorrow night for the rest of the week. I have a handle on my laundry, but the house could use some attention.
I spent the afternoon with my dd, we went to see Hunger Games. It was awesome! I can't wait for the next one.
Eek...I thought the challenges started at 6 p.m. EST today...oops! I love the idea you came up with on this challenge. I've been making lists of pictures I want to use for layouts so I'll have to see which ones fit. Flowers are sort of on the girly side even though I have done a few for DGS (he liked to put violets behind his ears like a pencil for a bit a few years ago). I think those days are done now cause now he just likes to give the flowers to his girlfriend (er....fiance)!

My DS and I went to the drive in last night and saw this ... I wish I would have read the book first because there were lots of things I didn't understand until the end ... it was good.

This one was tricky with the 6 DSP I thought ... I finally figured out how to work those in ... 3 flowers and 5 buttons ... all good. Thanks for the fun challenge Joyce
This actually started out being my VSBN04 challenge until I realized I could get the 6 DSP here so I did another page for that one, LOL

Using 6 papers is hard, but that is why it's a challenged! Lol
I found myself looking for an idea for scraps to bit to just toss, totally not my norm, but it's fun thinking out of the box once in a while!
I started out doing this challenge, then thought is would fit better for the last challenge and then went back to this one! Therefore the rather odd beginning word in the title (or at least I thought so )
Definitely a challenge to use 6 different patterned papers - I did manage to do it, but because they are all kind of the same shades, it's hard to see the differences in the pic. I promise, there are 6 different ones, though! ;)
