Default What trend bandwagon did you jump on that makes you shake your head?

I am sorting through stamps sets to sell and I came across "She's All That", brand new and unmounted and I just shook my head and thought what was I thinking, lol! I dislike this set, and the whole ultra skinny women trend, for several reasons. First, I think they are kinda creepy looking. Second, I am philosophically opposed to perpetuating the skinny myth! I clearly remember the day I ordered this set, my friend said I just had to get it, haven't I seen all the great stuff people are doing with it on SCS, so I did it! So, what makes you shake your head?

You should set up a swap....I'll trade my completely unused items for yours. One man's trash is another man's treasure!

Can I have patterned paper as a trend? And I do mean all patterned paper, not certain makers or ranges. I buy the stuff very occasionally because it's lovely. I pull it out to use it and suffer complete brain freeze. I think the number of cards I've made with patterned paper that I've been happy with could be totted up with absolutely no danger of having to remove my shoes and socks!

I got sucked into the lovely work of some well-known manufacturer's DT blogs showcasing new sets, bought them on release day, only to have them sit untouched for months. Came across them not too long ago and those were my exact words to myself: "What was I thinking?!?!?!"

Sock Monkey, yet another one! With accessories too! I made exactly one card and didn't even like it, lol. A swap sounds like a great idea!

Provo Craft alphabet dies. Those sets were expensive, but I had to have them when my Cuttlebug was new. I've rarely used them since.

Anything vintage - stamps, papers, embellishments. I see others do lovely things, but it's just not my style. I've sold pretty much every vintage thing I ever bought, and I've finally learned my lesson and can almost always hush the little voice in me that tries to make me buy vintage stuff now.

Flowersoft and flock. Shaking my head even as I type this. Oh, and those Tim Holtz fragments. Don't know what to do with those.

LOL! Yes, I think we still have over 100 of them around here. My youngest son really did LOVE them, so, at least I feel like we got our use out of them. Oddly enough, lol, I still like to look at the new ones when they come out, even though I have ABSOLUTELY NO INTENTION of buying any. ;)

As for a STAMPING TREND...not so much that I fell into any trend as much as I've just gotten caught up in some frenzies and purchased stamps that have never seen the light of day. oh well.

I always sell my stuff right away when it stops feeling fresh for me. (My friends love this because sometimes it is like two months old and I'm over it and sell it for less than half)

So I don't HAVE these things but:
I had to have EVERY prismacolor pencil I could get my hands on. I had like 240 of them.
Then it was prismacolor markers, only to replace them with copics (which I like but rarely use, might be time to sell those)
I used to loose my mind over House Mouse
then Bellas

I go through sprees of buying print paper. but I never regret it. I don't use it on cards much but I make all my own envelopes. And pretty much any pattern paper looks GREAT as an envelope. You should try it.

FLOWER SOFT for me, too. What on earth was I thinking when I bought all that? I have made 3 cards using it and hated each one!
Yep, I hear you on the patterned paper. I think I have enough to open my own scrapook store and rarely use any of it! May have to try that idea of making envelopes with it. Hmmmm, sure sounds pretty!

Oh I'm with Joanne on this one. I love paper and have some lovely sheets but rarely use it on cards because I can't - like Joanne I have brain freeze. I am now using it for other things like origami boxes, occasionally lining enevlopes or covering something else. I have given away loads just so I don't have to keep looking at it

I have a feeling the three bottles of Stickles I bought about a year and a half ago will not get used up, at least not by me. I just can't get the stuff to look right and I don't have patience for things that take a long time to dry.

There have been a few stamps sets here and there that I wonder why I bought, but I honestly try to use what I buy. However, I do have a recent purchase I'm having a tough time using. I bought the stamp set Paisley Petals last fall and I can't seem to make it work for me. But I'm not giving up yet. If any of you have that set, please post in your galleries so I can get more ideas!

Probably too many to type.

Brass stencils/dry embossing with a stylus. I *so* don't have the patience for that. Embossing folders however are well loved and often used in my crafting.

QuiKutz I still have these. After paying $150 for an alpha that I've used only a few times, it hurts to even consider getting rid of them. Thankfully, they are small and don't take up much room.

Skittles/clear 1/2 sphere accents I have these in every color they made and some that I custom dyed. I hardly ever use them, but they go look pretty in my studio and were cheap, so I don't really regret them all that much.

Fibers. 'Nuff said. They are all gone now.

Scrapbooking swaps. I could just never bring myself to use something someone else made in my scrapbooks. Yeah, I'm strange. LOL~

Cricut Mine only gets used for the kids' school projects.

And I'm sure that's just scratching the surface. ;)

Well, lets see...

I jumped on the SU bandwagon and bought about $750 worth of stuff within a couple months and found I wasn't that impressed with their stuff so I jumped off that bandwagon pretty quick.

Grungeboard and chipboard. I have quite a bit and thought that it would make me craftier - just like Tim, but I know I'll probably never use up what I have left.

There's so many more things that I have, but I don't know if I'd consider them "jumping on the bandwagon" stuff. Let's just say, tho, that I have enough crafting supplies that I don't use/want that I won't have to buy a present for my niece (who I give all my stuff to that I don't want) until she has grandchildren of her own. :(

Crucuit Expression and cartridges and the accessories - I keep saying I'm going to sell it as it just sits in the closet.

Flower soft and flock - I just don't feel the love
Precut chipboard and grunge board
Acrylic paint in dauber bottles
6x6 paper pads

Wish I 'd seen this earlier, because this afternoon I took a box of stamps and donated them to the SPCA thrift shop.
I can't think of a trend bandwagon that I jumped on that I'm sorry for now. However, I have a few things that I liked and then got tired of, like Marvy markers and Polymer clay. I bought books on clay and tried and tried and I could not make things like in the books or on Carol Duval. I gave them to a co-worker who had twin girls. I thought they would have fun making things together. Gave them the clay, tools and the oven.

Never been one to jump on trends, but I have too much of some things that I've hardly used - chipboard is one but I keep trying different things with it and maybe I'll even learn to like it! Embossing powders - I go in cycles where I do a lot of embossing and then I don't use it for a year. Prima flowers - made a bunch of cards for a friend's church birthday group and made sure I used a flower on each card to lower my supply. If I had to mention a trend it would be all the SU wheels I bought and hardly used, but I'm going to unmount them and hopefully will use them.

What a great idea, Erin!! Great way to use up a bunch of random papers or scraps that can fit as envelope liners.

It's a great idea but when I cave and buy printed paper it's always the 6" x 6" pads so they'd have to be very small envelopes!

I have never really gotten on a bandwagon per sey..BUT..when I first got into card making/stamping I *needed* everything( yes I know needing everything is a foreign concept to all of us isn't it LOL)
I had so so much patterend paper..gave a HUGE box to the kids school. Oh and fibers..I didn't buy them as they make my nose go all twitchy just trying to figure out how to use them , but I got them in a swap from another site..gave those suckers away as well. I still have a plethora of stickers and rub-ons from "the beginning" .. I let my kids use those a lot ...and don't get me started on harware and eyelets..HAHAHAHAh eyelets..I bought oodles of them..had them for at least a YEAR before I figured out the heck to "set" them..ROFL. Yes..I was trying my hardest to "set them" with my hammer..then one day it finally dawned on that that large tool set I have from MM is for SETTING EYELETS  ( yes, you may laugh at me or with me..whichever suits your mood today..HA)

I am going to be shot for this, lol. I couldn't get into Distress Inks. I love the look. I think they are beautiful. I just don't "get" them. I know how to use them but every time I use them I think something is supposed to happen. I think that "something" is I psyched myself out in wanting something cool to happen like Adrien Brody popping out of the ink pad, lol.

Bella's- I don't know what I was thinking. I am a bit of a classic stamper. I never buy trendy stamps. I want my stamps to be ageless. I just had to jump on the Bella bandwagon. Ok, I bought one, lol.

Copics- Don't get me wrong. I LOVE COPICS! I can't use them for stamping. I use them for my illustration work. It's just weird to me that this Manga marker is used for stamping now. I have admired so many Manga artists over the years who are Copic colorists. Then they were picked up in the stamping world. I just couldn't get the hang of it. Now, I have favorite Copic stamp artists. I can never use them for stamping. I have tried. I can't get past that mental block.

I do love Stencils & my Cricut, lol.

DeeAnn..I wont flame ya..I can't ever get them to look right either..LOL. I love them and the possibilities they have, but I, for one..can not ever seem to get that smooth transition with them. I do much better sponging with Versa Magic .

Yes! I completely forgot about the multiple bottles of Dew Drops and eyelets. I'm STILL working through those Dew Drops. Clearly, I need to sit down and make more cards.

Me too! I can't figure out what on earth I thought I'd do with FlowerSoft. I'm currently pulling my unloved/unused stamping stuff together for a Spring Garage sale.

It is fun to read everyones responses. I truly see that one person's "can't live without" is someone else's clutter. For me, I think my tastes change and when I first started I got all the eyelet shapes I could get my hands on. I hardly use them, but every once in awhile I do, so I keep them. I also use them when my nieces and nephews visit to stamp.. My love for distress is well known and my poor hubby sees the word on something and he knows I will have to have it...

I have a whole bunch of Dew Drops too. But I use them! I put them on cards in corners to kind of fill empty space sometimes. I also color them with my Copics so I can get exactly what I want. Copics are fantastic for coloring dew drops, rhinestones, metal accessories. Maybe that will help us use some of this stuff up!

For me it was my Cricut. I spent so much money on my Cricut and all the cartridges and I just never used it. I did sell my cricut and my cartridge and I was able to get most of my money back.

I'm glad I didn't get on the copic markers bandwagon. I've often thought about it, but the price of them is keeping me away and I don't color enough to justify that purchase.

Skittles/clear 1/2 sphere accents I have these in every color they made and some that I custom dyed. I hardly ever use them, but they go look pretty in my studio and were cheap, so I don't really regret them all that much.
Dewdrops! That's what those were called! I have about a million of them.
